Abstract

Steam power plant is a power plant that uses steam energy as the main turbine engine to produce electricity. Most steam power plant are built in coastal areas because it requires water for its utilization as waste heat or coolant from the surrounding environment. The construction of steam power plant in coastal areas has caused several issues, such as hot water waste, coal waste, mud, sand, and others that can affect the quality of coastal waters and alter the biological composition in the ocean. The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of Steam Power Plant X wastewater disposal on the phytoplankton community structure and coastal water quality in South Lampung. The sampling points were taken at 3 stations in March-April 2024. Water samples were analyzed using 3 parameters: physics, chemistry and biology, with seven optional parameters measured both ex situ and in situ, namely pH, temperature, salinity, brightness, TSS, nitrate and plankton. Based on the results, the disposal of wastewater from Steam Power Plant X has an impact on the phytoplankton community structure, resulting an increase in dominance of phytoplankton species and causing an increase in physical parameters such as temperature and brightness that exceed environmental quality standards.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effect of probiotic on blood cholesterol in laying hens. Materials used were laying hens (Isa Brown strain) 43 weeks old and ration using probiotics. This research was conducted by using completely randomized design (CRD). The advanced research was done with testing the local probiotic with various concentration treatment, they are P0 (ration without probiotic), P1 (ration + 1% local probiotic), P2 (ration + 2% local probiotic), and P3 (ration + 3% local probiotic) with 5 time repetitions and in every repetitions consists of 2 chicken. Variables that were observed in the advance research were laying henss blood cholesterol that consists of total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides, and total leucocyte. The level of total cholesterol on P0, P1, P2, and P3 were 129.0038.26, 116.00 26.53, 121.0033.72, and 137.0052.53 mg/dL (P0.05) respectively; the HDL level were 50.6016.47, 35.8011.28, 59.4019.74; 56.8030.56 mg/dL (P0.05); the LDL level were 100.2049.53, 39.2017.14, 104.6051.23, and 96.8066.22 mg/dL (P0.05), respectively; the trigycerides level were 862.00355.5, 533.00146.1, 829.00242.6, and 810.00304 mg/dL (P0.05), respectively; and leucocyte count were 22.001.72, 21.003.79, 31.003.99, and 34.003.55 x103 mm3 (P0.01), respectively. In conclusion, the administrtion of local probiotic do not effect the blood cholesterol of layer chicken.

Abstract

Seaweed Kaphapicus alvarezii is very popular in cultivation because it has high economic value and has quite large development potential in Ruguk Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung Regency. Water quality is a factor that influences the growth of seaweed, including the Kaphapicus alvarezii type, both physical and chemical water quality. This research aims to determine the condition of water quality in the seaweed cultivation area of Ruguk Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung Regency, meets the optimal living conditions for cultivating Kaphapicus alvarezii seaweed. This research is a type of descriptive research with a survey method carried out by taking water samples at seaweed cultivation locations and measuring the increase in seaweed growth every week for 4 weeks. The parameters observed in this research were the physical and chemical parameters of the water quality of the seaweed rearing media at the research location which consisted of temperature, brightness, current, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), and phosphate and relative growth of the seaweed. Based on the results of observations during the research, it can be concluded that the water quality conditions, both physical and chemical water quality in the seaweed cultivation area in Ruguk Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung Regency, are in accordance with the standard quality requirements for the growth of Kaphapicus alvarezii seaweed, namely temperature 29.1-30.2⁰C, brightness 0,8-1.5 m, current strength 0.20-0.37m/sec, depth 0.8–1.5 m, pH 7.5-8.17, salinity 26-30 ppt, DO of 4.6-7.2 ppm, nitrate 0.2-0.92 mg/L and phosphate of 0.258-0.711 mg /L
