Abstract

This research is part of the UINSU Community Service Program (KKN) held in Tambun Sungkean Village, Onan Runggu District, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of high production costs on low community interest in establishing MSMEs. Field research indicates that most businesses face the challenge of high production costs, particularly those related to raw material costs, transportation costs, and labor costs. This results in less competitive product prices, reducing community interest in establishing and maintaining MSMEs. The results showed that production costs had a significant negative impact on community interest in developing MSMEs, contributing 62%. Other factors, such as limited access to capital, low consumer purchasing power, and a lack of technological support, also exacerbate the impact of high production costs. This study found that to encourage small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Tambun Sungkean Village, methods to reduce production costs through efficiency, making raw materials more accessible, and obtaining government support such as subsidies and business management training are crucial.

Abstract

Halal certification is a crucial instrument for the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the culinary sector. This study aims to evaluate the MSME development approach based on halal certification in Percut Sei Tuan District using descriptive qualitative methods. The study involved five culinary MSME actors and one halal certification facilitator as key informants, with data collected from October 2024 to January 2025. Information was collected through observation, interviews with MSMEs and halal certification facilitators, and document review. Data processing was conducted using a SWOT analysis approach to identify internal and external factors influencing the implementation of halal certification. The findings of this study indicate that MSMEs have advantages in the form of using halal raw materials and existing consumer trust, but still have weaknesses in terms of administrative understanding and limited resources. On the other hand, increasing public awareness of halal products and support from government policies can present valuable opportunities, although business competition and legal changes remain challenges. This study concludes that halal certification plays a role not only in fulfilling regulations but also as a strategic step to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs if supported by mentoring and capacity building for business actors.

Abstract

This study examines the direct and indirect effects of tax awareness, tax amnesty, and religiosity on motor vehicle tax (MVT) revenue through taxpayer compliance in Sibolga City, Indonesia. The study addresses a gap in the local taxation literature by integrating tax awareness, tax amnesty, and religiosity into a single mediation model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), with taxpayer compliance serving as the mediating variable. A quantitative research design was employed using survey data collected from 94 registered motor vehicle taxpayers selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using path analysis based on multiple regression to estimate direct, indirect, and total effects among the variables. The findings reveal that tax awareness and religiosity positively and significantly influence taxpayer compliance, whereas tax amnesty exerts a significant negative effect. Taxpayer compliance significantly enhances motor vehicle tax revenue and partially mediates the relationships between tax awareness, tax amnesty, religiosity, and tax revenue. Tax awareness demonstrates the strongest positive total effect on tax revenue, while repeated tax amnesty programs are associated with lower taxpayer compliance and reduced tax revenue, indicating the potential emergence of moral hazard. The study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior by demonstrating the mediating role of taxpayer compliance in explaining the relationship between behavioral and policy-related determinants and local tax revenue. These findings provide practical implications for local governments by emphasizing taxpayer education, strengthening voluntary compliance, improving digital tax services, and carefully evaluating the implementation of recurring tax amnesty programs to achieve sustainable regional tax revenue.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed consumption patterns and financial behavior in society, particularly among university students. At the same time, increasing awareness of Islamic principles has encouraged the adoption of a halal lifestyle in various aspects of daily life. This study aims to analyze the influence of technology adoption, Islamic financial behavior, allowance, and social environment on the halal lifestyle of students at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, State Islamic University of North Sumatra (FEBI UINSU). This research employed a quantitative approach using primary data collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 students, selected from a total active population of approximately 4,300 FEBI UINSU students using the Slovin sampling technique with a 10% margin of error. Data were analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing through t-tests and F-tests. The results indicate that technology adoption, Islamic financial behavior, allowance, and social environment have a positive and significant influence on students' halal lifestyle. Among these variables, the social environment was found to be the most dominant factor affecting the implementation of a halal lifestyle. Furthermore, all four variables simultaneously exert a significant influence on students' halal lifestyle. These findings suggest that the effective utilization of technology, the application of Islamic financial principles, proper allowance management, and a supportive social environment can enhance the adoption of a halal lifestyle among university students.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of seafaring experience and productive assets on fishermen’s welfare, with livelihood diversification serving as an intervening variable. A quantitative approach was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 98 fishermen in Singkuang Village, Mandailing Natal Regency. The findings reveal that seafaring experience and productive assets have positive and significant effects on livelihood diversification and fishermen’s welfare. Livelihood diversification also has a positive and significant effect on fishermen’s welfare (β = 0.293, p < 0.001). Furthermore, productive assets significantly influence livelihood diversification (β = 0.347, p < 0.001) and fishermen’s welfare (β = 0.441, p < 0.001), while seafaring experience significantly affects livelihood diversification (β = 0.392, p < 0.001) and fishermen’s welfare (β = 0.366, p < 0.001). The structural model demonstrates substantial explanatory power, with an R² value of 0.440 for livelihood diversification and 0.794 for fishermen’s welfare, indicating that the model explains 79.4% of the variance in fishermen’s welfare. These findings suggest that enhancing fishermen’s work experience, strengthening productive assets, and promoting livelihood diversification are effective strategies for improving the sustainable welfare of coastal fishing households.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the Effect of Price, Sales Promotion and Nike Brand Image on Customer Interest in Nike Products (Case Study of FEBIUINSU Students). This research method is quantitative with the population used in this study are all FEBIUINSU students. The sample is 98 people. The type and source of data that will be used in this study is primary data. The questionnaire distributed is in the form of a google form that can be directly filled out by respondents. In this study, validity testing and reliability testing used the Cronbach Alpha coefficient technique (á) with the help of SPSS 21.0 for Windows. The results of this study show 1. The results of this study indicate that the Price Variable shows a calculated t value greater than the t table (3.421> 1.842), or sig <α (0.001 <0.005). meaning that the Price variable has a positive and significant effect on Customer Interest, thus the first hypothesis is accepted. Price is related to how consumers understand price information as a whole and gives it a deep meaning to them. Price is often the target of research rather than objective price because when they buy something, consumers usually do not think about the price of the product accurately; however, based on their internal, they consider the price of the product as cheap, reasonable, or expensive. 2. The results of this study indicate that, the Sales Promotion Variable shows a calculated t value greater than the t table (5.921 > 1.842), or sig <α (0.000 < 0.005). means that the Sales Promotion variable has a positive and significant effect on the decision of Customer Interest, thus the second hypothesis is accepted. 3. The results of this study indicate that the Brand Image Variable shows a calculated t value greater than the t table (3.521 > 1.842), or sig <α (0.003 < 0.005). means that the Brand Image variable has a positive and significant effect on Customer Interest, thus the third hypothesis is accepted. The variables of price, sales promotion, brand image together have a positive effect simultaneously on customer interest. And this also concludes that the fourth hypothesis is accepted. Sales promotion, brand image together have a simultaneous positive effect on customer interest. And this also concludes that the fourth hypothesis is accepted.
