Abstract

The journey of life experienced by an individual, along with the dynamics faced, reflects various motivations influenced by intentions and the environment, shaping individual behavior. This study explores the changes in the motivations of the main character in the film ‘How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.’ The main character, influenced by his personal interactions with Amah, alters his motivation from wealth to appreciation of Amah’s legacy of wisdom and relationship. Using the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), this research reveals that the motivations shift from externally driven materialistic goals to internally driven emotional goals. Through a qualitative approach employing Todorov's Narrative Analysis Method, the findings demonstrate that interpersonal communication is crucial in transforming motivations, showing how social interactions can influence individual attitudes and behaviors, and highlighting the importance of family values in this transformation process. To conclude, every rational action generates intrinsic and extrinsic drives, regardless of whether the outcome aligns with the original objective. The dynamics and communication involved will lead to self-development. Keywords: Interpersonal Communications; Motivation; Theory of Reasoned Action; Todorov’s Narrative Analysis

Abstract

Post-COVID-19 pandemic, the phenomenon of quiet quitting has become a global spotlight, characterized by an increased prevalence of employee engagement in quiet quitting behaviors.. Quiet quitting is an intentional act by employees to only fulfill the basic duties of their job without any effort to provide performance beyond what is expected. Previous studies have found that quiet quitting is related to job satisfaction, which is a positive feeling from the evaluation of the characteristics of a particular job, as well as organizational justice, which is employees' perception of fairness in the organization. This study aims to examine the effect of job satisfaction on quiet quitting behavior among Generation Z employees, with organizational justice as a mediating variable. The research was conducted on 182 Generation Z employees who were taken based on convenience sampling. Data was collected online by distributing the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, Quiet Quitting Scale, and Organizational Justice Scale. Data was analyzed with path analysis method using JASP. The results of this study show that job satisfaction has an effect on quiet quitting with the mediation of organizational justice. Without the role of organizational justice, job satisfaction has no effect on quiet quitting. It can be concluded that organizational justice plays an important role in mediating the influence of job satisfaction on quiet quitting. The findings of this study can be implemented into educational programs about quiet quitting and organizational justice to minimize the potential for quiet quitting among Generation Z employees.

Abstract

Environmental sustainability problems caused by human actions have been increasingly threatening our future lives. Consequently, studies on human behavior are needed for ecological improvement purposes. This study examines the personal (Biospheric Value; BV) and organizational (Organizational Readiness to Change; ORtC) factors influencing pro-environmental behavior (PEB) of 257 employees from a textile company. We applied the BV, ORtC, and PEB behavioral scales for data collection, and a regression test for analysis. Regression test results showed that both BV and ORtC contribute significantly to PEB. The results demonstrate that BV and ORtC positively correlate independently with PEB. The results of multiple regression analysis indicate that BV and ORtC simultaneously contribute significantly, approaching a medium size effect in predicting PEB. Strengthening biospheric values through communal relations (guyub) is recommended by leveraging employee gathering events as social platforms for socialization, education, and habituation of PEB in the workplace.
