Abstract

The high demand for local chicken products in large quantities cannot be met by local chicken farmers. The high demand for local chicken products requires alternatives to increase productivity, one of which is using Artificial Insemination (AI) technology. This research aims to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency the use of micropipette in implementing artificial insemination to egg weight, fertility and hatchability of local chicken. 108 local chicken hen from three local chicken strain i.e. KUB, Merawang and IPB D-1 (each of strain 36 chicken) were used in this research and were subjected to artificial insemination using micropipette. The semen collection is done using the massase method which involves two local male chickens each (KUB, Merawang, and IPB D-1). The research was conducted using a two factors factorial complete randomized design, the factors were local chicken strain (KUB, Merawang, and IPB D-1) and amount of fresh semen (5,10, and 15 microliter), each treatment were repeated four times and each experimental unit consisted of three chickens. The results were obtained from the research were egg weight ranged between 46,15±0,40-46,95±0,48 gram with average 46,56±0,14 gram, egg Fertility ranged from 80,18±0,21%-86,11±3,21% with average 83,14± 2,3% and egg hatchability ranged from 91,03±2,84-94,45±6,41% with mean of 92,96±2,16%%. There were no significant effect either from local chicken strain nor amount of fresh semen on all variables. In Addition, there was no interaction between two factors.

Abstract

Population growth in Indonesia has effect in increased demand for local chicken meat products. Local chickens have also produced new strains, including Merawang, KUB, and IPB-D1. Supporting activities in order to produce the quality of local chickens are Artificial Insemination (AI). Micropipettes could accommodate smaller capacities in micro scale. The study aimed to test AI methode to three strains of local chickens by using different doses with micropipette against hatching time, weight of DOC and quality of DOC. The research used 3 variety of local hens with age about 50 weeks consisting of KUB, Merawang, and IPB D-1, each chicken breed contain 36 hen. Each breed of chickens will use 2 males that are about 24 months old. Day Old Chick quality testing used 108 eggs which will be hatched to produce DOC. The Analysis tool that used is Factorial Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Observed variable are hatching time, weight of DOC and quality of DOC. The results showed that using lower doses on three local chickens did not have an effect against hatching time, weight of DOC and quality of DOC. The micropipettes is efficient at a dose 5 μl against syringe for AI doses that used for local chickens. The use of micropipettes with a dose of 5 μl is recommended for AI implementation in local chickens.

Abstract

Livestock farming is an effort to breed livestock to obtain benefits or results in the form of products and income. The success of a livestock business depends on three elements commonly referred to as the production triangle, namely seeds, feed, and management. In addition, the techno-socioeconomic characteristics of livestock farmers greatly influence the development of livestock businesses and will later affect the income of livestock farmers. The aim of the research was to examine the injection of the prostaglandin F2α hormone on the estrus response and pregnancy in Ongole crossbreed and Simental crossbreed cows reared using intensive and semi-intensive rearing systems. The data obtained will be analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and if there is a real effect, continue with further testing with Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of research on the percentage of estrus after the first and second injection of the prostaglandin hormone can be seen in the table. The highest percentage of estrus was in the S1P2 treatment with a percentage value of 80% and the lowest percentage value was in the S2P1 and S2P2 treatments with a percentage value of 40%. The percentage of estrus after the second injection, the percentage value for all treatments increased and the percentage of estrus was highest in the S1P2 treatment with a value of 100%. The average value of onset of estrus after the second injection of the PGF2α hormone was lower than the first injection. The longest duration of estrus in the treatment after the first PGF2α hormone injection was in the S1P2 treatment with an average of 24.75 hours, while the longest duration of estrus in the treatment after the second PGF2α hormone injection was in the S2P1 treatment with an average of 25 hours. PO cattle and Simental crossbreeds injected with PGF2α gave no different estrous responses. Intensive and semi-intensive rearing systems provide no different estrous responses. Raising PO cows using a semi-intensive rearing system injected with PGF2α provides an estrous response and high pregnancy rates (60), to be one of techniques to breed cattle of PO cow and have good impact to the success of a livestock business

Abstract

Turkey is a poultry with high economic value, an animal protein resource with high nutrition. Limitations in natural mating cause the small population of turkeys in Indonesia. Therefore, artificial insemination will be a solution to this problem. This research aims to know the diluent effectivity of ringer lactate and egg yolk to preserve turkey’s liquid semen stored at a temperature of 4 °C. The fresh semen from 2 bronze breed turkeys, ages 8 and 12 months, was collected with massage method. This research uses a complete randomized design with four treatment groups for each storage period: T0= storage for 0 hours, T1 = storage for 24 hours, T2 = storage for 48 hours, and T4 = storage for 72 hours with six repetitions for each group. The parameters observed from fresh semen are volume, color, pH, consistency, mass movement, motility, viability, and abnormality. The fresh semen was processed into liquid semen using ringer lactate egg yolk diluent with a ratio of 4:1 and then stored at a temperature of 4 °C. The parameters observed from liquid semen are motility, viability, abnormality, and recovery rate. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance, and in case there were significant differences between treatments, the test was continued with the Duncan test. The results showed that ringer lactate egg yolk diluent can preserve turkey’s liquid semen quality until storage for 48 hours. We can conclude the turkey’s liquid semen in ringer lactate egg yolk diluent can be used for artificial insemination maximum of 48 hours of storage.
