Abstract

Cancer is a condition of abnormal cell growth, cells lose their normal control and mechanisms resulting in rapid and uncontrolled cell growth, as well as local tissue invasion and distant metastases. Quality of life is influenced by health status. A decrease in nutritional status often occurs as a result of cancer and its therapy. Due to the lack of food intake such as appetite, swallowing ability, absorption in the body and treatment therapy actions taken, coupled with chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of nutrition on the quality of life of cancer patients. Methods: Researchers used the scoping review method. The article search used databases from Sciencedirect, Scopus, and Pubmed with the research time January 2019 to December 2023, with the keywords influence"AND ‘nutrition’ AND ‘quality life’ AND ‘Patient’ AND ‘Cancer’. The results were 10 articles analyzed, all of which were quantitative articles. Based on identification, there are 67 articles from search engines from Sciencedirect, Scopus, and Pubmed. The final results obtained were 10 articles that fit the criteria after going through the selection process. Nutritional factors have an important role in the quality of life of patients. The better the nutrition obtained, the higher the patient's quality of life. Researchers used the PEO question format (population, exposure, outcome) to find related research articles. Improved nutrition helps prevent weight loss, which can affect tolerance to treatment and reduce its side effects. The nutritional status of cancer patients tends to change and deteriorate during intensive treatment. Maintenance of a healthy weight during cancer therapy is considered important in health management. By understanding the relationship between nutrition, diet and quality of life in cancer patients, appropriate nutrition interventions can be designed to improve treatment outcomes and patient well-being.

Abstract

Self-care is essential in maintaining health, especially in chronic diseases. It is assessed using various instruments influenced by knowledge, motivation, ability, social support, and culture. In Indonesia, suboptimal self-care practices can adversely affect health and productivity. Identify and review instruments used in Indonesia to evaluate self-care, with a focus on the scope of self-care domains accommodated by each instrument and their suitability for the local cultural context and nursing practice. Articles were collected from three databases: ScienceDirect, PubMed, and EBSCOhost, using the main keywords "instrument" and "self-care". Inclusion criteria comprised articles published within the last five years (from 2020 to 2024) available in full text, written in English, and open access. The initial search yielded 818 articles. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 149 articles were selected for further screening, with 107 articles excluded due to issues such as incomplete texts, language barriers, or irrelevance to the topic. A total of 42 articles underwent in-depth review, resulting in the elimination of an additional 32 articles. Finally, 10 articles were included for analysis. A PRISMA flow diagram was used to map the article selection process systematically. A narrative analysis approach was employed to evaluate the characteristics of the self-care instruments, the scope of domains assessed, and their suitability within the cultural context of Indonesia. The final 10 selected articles demonstrated a variety of self-care instruments used across different studies in Indonesia. These instruments assessed various domains of self-care, including physical, psychological, social, and behavioral aspects. Self-care instruments in Indonesia have been widely used to evaluate self-care behaviors that meet the needs of patients. These instruments cover interrelated physical, psychological, social, and behavioral domains. Findings confirm the importance of a comprehensive understanding and integrated approach to support effective nursing care, prevent complications, and improve patient well-being.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and the complexity of comorbidities demand a systematic management approach. The Self-Care of Chronic Illness Inventory (SC-CII) is an instrument that assesses self-care behaviors through three main domains: maintenance, monitoring, and management. This study aims to conduct a scoping review of the validity, reliability, and application of the SC-CII across chronic conditions and cultural settings. The method follows the PRISMA-ScR guidelines with an article search through PubMed and Scopus databases with articles from 2022 through 2024. Of the 765 articles identified, five were used that met the criteria. Articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria were eliminated, including publications over five years old, not available in open access, not in English, and not scientific articles. Studies were also eliminated if they had incomplete data, duplication, could not be downloaded in full, did not have an abstract, or did not match the focus of the study. Articles discussing chronic stroke and articles with irrelevant discussion were also excluded from the review. The results showed that the SC-CII has high construct validity and reliability in both the original and translated versions. The three domains showed a consistent and theoretically relevant factor structure. This instrument is used effectively in populations with multiple chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, COPD, and chronic kidney disease. The SC-CII can identify contextual determinants in self-care decision making and support the development of culturally adaptive educational interventions. In conclusion, the SC-CII is a valid and reliable multidimensional instrument, and contributes significantly to evidence-based nursing practice and the person-centered care approach.

Abstract

Aphasia is a communication disorder that occurs after brain damage. Delays in diagnosing aphasia can lead to depression, decrease quality of life, and raise hospital stays and costs. Ischemic stroke aphasia screening instruments have been widely developed but are still difficult to interpret.  Nowadays, the Language Screening Test (LAST) is reportedly quick, easy to understand, straightforward, and suitable for use by nurses. However, the LAST subtests are different from the Frenchay Aphasia Screening Test (FAST), which has been used in the past to evaluate aphasia. This study aims to determine the relationship between LAST and FAST in ischemic stroke aphasic patients for aphasia screening. The study used an analytic observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were stroke patients at Tugurejo Semarang Hospital who had their CT Scan checked. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique. Bivariate data analysis with Spearman Rank Correlation test. We obtained 50 samples 19 male patients and 31 female patients with the highest age range of 51-60 years as many as 26 patients. The highest Education and profession is primary school and housewife. Patients who experienced aphasia with LAST and FAST scored as many as 27 and 29 people, while the rest not have aphasia. The Spearman's Rank test obtained p-values of 0,000 and < 0,05 respectively. Meanwhile, the correlation coefficients of LAST and FAST on aphasia were 0,678 and 0,678 respectively. There is a positive correlation between the LAST and FAST in ischemic stroke aphasic patients for aphasia screening. Nurses can use the LAST instrument to collect data and establish nursing diagnoses of verbal communication disorders.
