Abstract

This study investigated the developments of Smart Building learning media (KNX System) which focuses on control system elements at SMK Negeri 3 Surabaya, assessed through three aspects: (1) media validity, (2) media practicality, and (3) media effectiveness. This research uses the Research & Development (R&D) development method using the Borg & Gall model. Validity assessments included trainer validity tests, module validity tests, validity tests of student response questionnaires, validity tests of pretest and posttest, validity tests of attitude observation sheets and skills observation sheet tests. The results of the validity test  showed that this trainer scored 86%, the validity test of the module scored 81%, the validity test of the student response questionnaire scored 77%, the validity test of the pretest and posttest questions got a score of 75%, the validity test of the attitude observation sheet scored 76%, and the validity test of the skill observation sheet scored 74%. Next, a practicality test was carried out which resulted in a score of 69%, in the practice category. For the latter, an effectiveness test was performed to assess how effectively the treatment is applied. The result of the N-Gain score obtained a value of 0.5, which was in the interval of 0.3 ≤ n ≤ 0.7. This indicated that the average N-Gain score is categorized as moderate. To differentiate between the average score of the pretest and posttest, the Paired Sample T-Test was performed using SPSS, resulting in a p value of 0.000. This indicated a significant influence on student learning outcomes before and after the implementation of this learning media. It can be concluded that the learning media developed is suitable for use in learning and can be used as a reference for the development of learning media in other learning elements.

Abstract

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low interest in learning and difficulties experienced by students in understanding logic gates and Boolean algebra in conventional learning at SMK Negeri 3 Surabaya. This condition has an impact on the suboptimal critical thinking skills that should be the main focus of the Merdeka Curriculum in accordance with the Pancasila Student Profile dimension. To overcome this problem, interactive learning media based on MIT App Inventor was developed, which can be accessed via smartphones and contains materials, videos, practical simulations, and evaluations based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The study aimed to analyze four aspects, namely the level of media validity, student responses, the effectiveness of the media for critical thinking skills, and the relationship between student responses and critical thinking skills. The development used the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model with 34 students from class X TAV 3 as subjects. The research design used a One-Shot Case Study with data collection techniques through expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and HOTS-based multiple-choice tests. The results showed that the media validity level was 96.35% (highly valid), student response was 83.61% (strongly agree), and the average post-test score was 86.79 (very high). The Product Moment correlation test produced a coefficient of 0.626 with a significance of < 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between student responses and critical thinking skills. Thus, MIT App Inventor-based interactive learning media proved to be valid, responsive, and effective when applied in Basic Electricity and Electronics learning.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aimed to develop and evaluate CircuitPintar, a website-based learning medium designed to improve the competencies of vocational high school students in the Basic Electrical Theory element of the Electrical Installation Engineering program.Methodology – The research employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation trial involved 35 Grade X TITL students at SMKN 3 Surabaya. Data were collected through media and material validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, a 25-item cognitive test, and psychomotor and affective observation rubrics. Data were analyzed using percentage-based validity and practicality criteria, Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, paired-sample t-tests, and normalized gain (N-gain).Findings – CircuitPintar was categorized as highly valid in media validation (91%) and material validation (94%). Practicality was also high, with teacher responses of 91% and student responses of 86%. Students’ mean scores increased from 72.74 to 88.17 in the cognitive domain, from 71.77 to 88.74 in the psychomotor domain, and from 73.40 to 88.00 in the affective domain. All improvements were statistically significant (p < 0.001), and N-gain values for all domains were in the moderate category.Contribution – This study presents an empirically tested model of website-based vocational learning media that combines concept mastery and virtual practice on a single platform, offering a practical reference for developing similar digital media for other technical and vocational subjects.
