Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) menguji daya antibakteri ekstrak buah lerak (Sapindus rarak dc) tanpa kulit dan ekstrak buah lerak (Sapindus rarak DC) beserta kulit dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Propionibacterium acnes, 2) menentukan kombinasi perlakuan macam ekstrak (ekstrak buah lerak tanpa kulit dan ekstrak buah lerak beserta kulit) dan konsentrasi ekstrak (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45% dan 50%) yang paling efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Propionibacterium acnes. Pengujian daya antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi agar atau metode sumuran. Daya antibakteri ditentukan berdasarkan rerata diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk. Hasil pengukuran dianalisis menggunakan Two Way ANOVA dan uji lanjut Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Berdasarkan hasil analisis diperoleh nilai signifikansi macam ekstrak (0.009) < α (0.05), maka disimpulkan macam ekstrak berpengaruh terhadap diameter zona hambat Propionibacterium acnes. Nilai signifikansi macam konsentrasi (0.002) < α(0.05), maka disimpulkan macam konsentrasi berpengaruh terhadap diameter zona hambat Propionibacterium acnes. Nilai signifikansi macam ekstrak dan macam konsentrasi (0.055 )=α(0.05), sehingga disimpulkan interaksi macam ekstrak dan macam konsentrasi berpengaruh terhadap diameter zona hambat Propionibacterium acnes. Berdasarkan uji lanjut DMRT diketahui kombinasi perlakuan ekstrak buah lerak tanpa kulit dengan konsentrasi 30% memberikan perngaruh paling besar terhadap rerata diameter zona hambat pertumbuhan Propionibacterium acnes, tetapi tidak berbeda nyata dengan ekstrak buah lerak beserta kulit dengan konsentrasi 25%, hasil penelitian ialah: perlakuan ekstrak buah lerak tanpa kulit dengan konsentrasi 30% dan ekstrak buah lerak beserta kulit dengan konsentrasi 25% merupakan kombinasi perlakuan paling efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

This research was aimed to identify how great the relation between students’ science process skill and critical thinking skill in the Department of Agricultural Industry Technology, particularly on Industrial Biotechnology. This research was included into a correlational research. The population in this research was taken from about 50 fifth semester students of Agricultural Industry Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tribhuwana Tunggadewi University, Malang, who took subject of Industrial Biotechnology. The assessment was in form of multiple choice questions for science process skill and essay for critical thinking skill. The statistical analysis was linear regression method which was then continued through t-test and determinant coefficient test (R2). The research finding referred a correlation between science process skill and critical thinking skill. This finding was proved by tcount value 6,157 and p-value (0,000) < 0,05.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a handout based on the results of research on the antibacterial power of mahogany leaf and bark extract (Swietenia mahagoni). This research is a development research which refers to the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating. The research object was students of the Biology Education Study Program, FSTT, Mandalika University of Education who had taken the Microbiology course. Handouts were validated by material expert validators, media experts, and a readability test to assess the practicality of handouts was carried out by students of the Biology Education Study Program, FSTT, Mandalika University of Education. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The percentage of results from the validation of experts in microbiology material was 97.61%, the validation of the instructional media experts was 97.72%, and the readability test by students was 91.79%. The results showed that handouts based on the results of research on the antibacterial power of mahogany leaf and bark extracts were very valid and suitable for use as teaching materials.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were: 1) to produce a Microbiology handout based on the results of the study of Antagonistic Fungi Antagonism against Pathogenic Fungi in Strawberry Plants; and 2) testing the feasibility and practicality of the handout. This type of research is development research. The development model used in this research is the ADDIE model which consists of 5 stages, namely: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The handout material was selected based on the results of the needs analysis by the respondent students of the Biology Study Program, FMIPA, State University of Malang. Handout eligibility data obtained from the results of validation by microbiology material experts and learning media experts. Meanwhile, the handout practicality data was obtained from the readability assessment results of Biology Study Program students who were currently taking the Microbiology course. The results showed that, the percentage of eligibility of handout material by the expert validator of microbiology material was 99.53% with very high or very valid eligibility criteria. The percentage of eligibility of handouts by instructional media expert validators is 98.14% with very high or very valid eligibility criteria. The percentage of practicality tests by students who were taking the Microbiology course resulted in 89.89% with very high practicality criteria. The results showed that research results-based Microbiology handouts were very feasible and practical to be used in microbiology learning activities.

Abstract

This research aims to produce teaching materials in the form of valid and practical Microbiology handouts based on the research "Antagonism of Antagonistic Fungi against Pathogenic Fungi". This type of research is development research. This development research was carried out by following the instructional design stages with the ADDIE approach, which consisted of 5 stages, namely: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The data on the feasibility of handout teaching materials were obtained from the results of validation by microbiology material experts and teaching materials expert. While the handout readability test was conducted by respondent students of the Undergraduate Biology Education Study Program, FKIP, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The results showed that the percentage of eligibility of handout material by material expert validators was 96.52% with very valid criteria with little improvement. The percentage of feasibility of handouts by teaching materials expert is 100% with very valid criteria. The percentage of readability test by respondent students was 90.10% with very high readability criteria. The results of this study indicate that the handout teaching material is very feasible and practical to be used by students / lecturers in microbiology learning activities on the material "Antagonism of Antagonistic Fungi against Pathogenic Fungi in Plants".

Abstract

This study aims to produce valid and practical handouts for use in the learning process. This research was conducted in March-May 2020. The development model used is the ADDIE model, which consists of Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate stages. Handout material is based on the results of research that has been carried out. The subject of the handout trial included a validator of Microbiology material experts, an expert validator of learning media, and a legibility test by 30 students of the Undergraduate Biology Education Study Program, FMIPA, State University of Malang who had taken the Microbiology course to assess the practicality of the handouts. Data collection techniques through distributing questionnaires and interviews. The data collection instruments were in the form of a validation sheet and a legibility test sheet containing handout assessment indicators. The results showed that, the Microbiology handout had a validation score of 98.25% from experts in Microbiology, and a validation score of 99.5% from instructional media experts with very valid criteria. While the readability test results by students obtained a score of 87.18% with very practical criteria. Based on the results of this assessment, it can be concluded that the handout "Antagonistic Power between Antagonistic Fungi and Pathogenic Fungi in Tomato Plants (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)" Is declared valid and practical to be used as microbiology teaching materials.

Abstract

Coriander is commonly used by people as a food flavour. Actually, people does not separate the intact and damaged coriander for food processing. The aim of this study is to examine the microbiological quality of the intact and damaged coriander based on the Total Plate Count (TPC) of mold colonies and identification of the mold contaminants. Identification of contaminants mold based on the colony and microscopic character description. Then, the fungi characters refers to the identification key book for fungi identification. The research results is: 1) the intact coriander TPC is 1.6 x 103 colonies/g and the damaged coriander TPC 1.4 x 107 colonies/g. 2) There are 10 species of molds contaminant isolated from the intact coriander and damaged coriander.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the most important component in a learning process, both inside or outside a classroom. In order to provide proper learning for students based on the researcher’s prior research, at least, three different field tests are needed. This research is a quasi-experiment, which is provide result of the second field test of cellulose degrading bacteria from mangrove soil microbiology handout both in cognitive and psychomotor ability. The research aims are to describe effect of this microbiology handout on student’s cognitive achievement and gain data about inappropriate laboratory written instruction in this handout. Data gained by conducting learning activities using developed handout which were 2 times in class theory and three times of practical activity using instuctions written in the handout. In the end of class theory activity, students did a posttest to confirm their improvement of cognitive ability while their practical ability was observed using observation sheet along with their activities. Results showed that handout which being tested could improve student cognitive at average level (n gain 0,419). In contrast, several parts of laboratory written instruction need to be fixed to make better microbiology handout.

Abstract

Biji kedelai dapat mengalami kerusakan, antara lain: karena pemanenan yang kurang cermat, serangan serangga hama di lahan pertanian, gigitan serangga di tempat penyimpanan biji sebelum dijual, serta terkontaminasi oleh kapang penghasil mikotoksin di pasar. Fokus dari penelitian ini ialah: 1) mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi semua jenis kapang kontaminan pada biji kedelai yang dijual di beberapa pasar di Kota Malang, 2) menentukan jenis kapang kontaminan yang paling dominan dalam biji kedelai yang diteliti, dan 3) mengkaji dampak cemaran kapang kontaminan terhadap penurunan kualitas biji kedelai berdasarkan kajian pustaka. Data diperoleh melalui metode observasi, deskripsi, dan identifikasi semua jenis kapang kontaminan yang ditemukan pada biji kedelai yang diteliti. Selanjutnya dilakukan identifikasi dengan deskripsi morfologi koloni dan mikroskopis kapang. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu tujuh isolat jenis kapang kontaminan, yakni Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, Penicillium frequentans, Aspergillus tamarii, mycelia sterilia I, Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus ochraceus, dan mycelia sterilia II; 2) jenis kapang kontaminan yang paling dominan yaitu Aspergillus ochraceus; 3) cemaran kapang berdampak terhadap penurunan kualitas biji kedelai, yaitu: tekstur biji berserbuk, hancur, keriput, berbau apak, dan berpotensi tercemar oleh mikotoksin yang dihasilkan kapang kontaminan.

Abstract

Learning that does not enable creative thinking skills does not facilitate student learning styles. This study aims to determine the effect of the PBL learning model with the VARK approach on the creative thinking skills of Biology students. This research uses quasi-experiment. The research subject was the 58 third-semester of Bachelor’s Degree students in the Department of Biology who took the Plant Physiology course. Data analysis used a single ANCOVA. The results showed that the PBL models with the VARK approach to creative thinking skills were 0.000, which means less than 0.05. These results prove that the research hypothesis is accepted, which means that the application of the learning model has a significant effect on students' creative thinking skills. The results of the 5% on LSD further test for the difference in the results of the two classes were 86.551 for the experimental class using the PBL model with the VARK approach, and 77.828 for the control class using the PBL models without the VARK approach. These results indicate that creative thinking skills using the PBL with the VARK approach have a higher effect than the PBL model without the VARK approach. However, the PBL models with the VARK approach effect increasing the creative thinking skills.AbstrakPembelajaran yang kurang memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kreatif tidak memfasilitasi gaya belajar mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Problem-based Learning (PBL) dengan pendekatan VARK terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa biologi. Metode penelitian ini kuasi eksperimen. Analisis data menggunakan anakova tunggal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model pembelajaran PBL dengan pendekatan VARK terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif sebesar 0,000 artinya lebih kecil dari 0,05. Ini membuktikan bahwa hipotesis penelitian diterima, artinya penerapan model pembelajaran berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa. Hasil uji lanjut BNT 5% terhadap perbedaan hasil kedua kelas yakni 86.551 untuk kelas eksperimen dengan penerapan model PBL dengan pendekatan VARK, sedangkan 77,828 untuk kelas kontrol dengan penerapan model PBL tanpa pendekatan VARK. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kreatif yang menggunakan PBL dengan pendekatan VARK memberikan pengaruh lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan model PBL tanpa pendekatan VARK.  Untuk itu model pembelajaran PBL dengan pendekatan VARK berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kreatif.
