Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the relationship between water quality and body length of arowana fish by measuring several water parameters including temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and ammonia. In relation to length growth, calculations on SR, SGR are also carried out using ANNOVA. Direct laboratory scale observations were carried out by providing different feeds, including bloodworms, maggot, crickets and live fish with the water source for cultivation activities being well water. The results of observations in the field show that the growth rate of fish in length is influenced by the type of feed given. Giving bloodworms has the most effective value, next to live fish, maggots and crickets. This type of feed also affects the quality of the water used. To maintain success in ornamental fish cultivation, it is recommended to use water efficiently through integrated fish cultivation. Checking the water regularly as well as training of farmers on good management practices and integration is needed to ensure good water quality.

Abstract

This study provides an overview of the impact of COVID-19 on fisheries cultivation activities using in-depth analysis from the International Futures Forum (IFF). The waters in the western region of Indonesia were chosen as the research location because many small fishermen still rely on fish as a source of daily livelihood. So that the policy of handling the COVID-19 pandemic has a significant impact on economic activities in the fisheries sector. This different picture in each research location provides information both in general and from previous versions of the model, for example in business planning, to adapt and deepen the analysis so that it becomes useful as a framework for thinking about long-term social change. Ongoing efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic include developing digital marketing strategies for companies to increase sales of aquaculture products, building cold storage facilities or storage space to accommodate excess supply so that prices do not fall too sharply, and digital marketing training for employees to strengthen marketing and face increasingly competitive business competition.

Abstract

Graphical Abstract  Highlight Research Paraprobiotic for intestinal health of shrimp. Growth performance and immune system increase during administration of paraprobiotics. Microencapsulation for making paraprobiotics. Pathogen inhibition by paraprobiotics.   Abstract Vibriosis, caused by Vibrio spp., is a major threat in shrimp aquaculture, leading to high mortality and economic losses. Probiotics and prebiotics are promising preventive strategies to enhance host immunity and feed efficiency. This study aimed to determine the optimal dose of para-probiotic Pseudoalteromonas piscicida (1Ub) microcapsules and their combination with the prebiotic mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS) to improve growth performance and immune responses of Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). The experiment was conducted at the College of Vocational Studies, IPB University, using mysis 2 (M2) larvae reared in 60 × 30 × 35 cm³ aquarium for two weeks until post-larvae stage 10 (PL10). Shrimp were fed synbiotic microcapsules (1% para-probiotic and 12 mg/L MOS) via bioencapsulated Artemia sp. Five groups were tested: K− (control, PBS immersion), K+ (challenged with Vibrio harveyi), A (0.5% synbiotic), B (1.0%), and C (2.0%). After 14 days, groups K+, A, B, and C were challenged with 10⁶ CFU/mL V. harveyi for seven days. Although differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05), group A consistently showed better outcomes, including higher survival rate, final body length, total haemocyte count, respiratory burst, and phenoloxidase activity, along with lower Vibrio counts compared to K+. These trends indicate that synbiotic application, particularly at 0.5%, can enhance shrimp health and resilience. This study highlights synbiotics as a practical strategy to improve survival, growth, and disease resistance in larviculture.

Abstract

Water quality plays an important role in sustainable agriculture. Water quality also affects the quality and quantity of fishery production. In ornamental fish cultivation, water quality influences not only production, but also the shape and color of the fish. To achieve optimal results, water quality parameters need to be maintained. Manually monitoring water quality parameters faces many challenges such as being time-consuming and not providing real-time data. This study investigated the application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in classifying water quality status. This status is based on data collected using sensors in an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system. The dataset comprised five key parameters: pH, temperature, ammonia, total dissolved solids (TDS), and total suspended solids (TSS). This data was collected from aquariums cultivating the Denison barb (Sahyadria denisonii). Data preprocessing was performed using feature standardization. This aims to improve model performance. The ANN model was constructed with two hidden layers (32 and 16 neurons). This model was trained using the Adam optimizer, with categorical cross-entropy as the loss function. The dataset was divided into 80% for training and 20% for testing. The trained ANN model achieved an accuracy of 99.95%. It has low false-positive and false-negative rates. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of ANN in predicting water quality status using sensor-based data. This suggests its potential for real-time monitoring and decision-making support in small-scale ornamental fish aquaculture.

Abstract

Tilapia cultivation in Nagrak Village has been practiced for a long time as one of the community's sources of income. The aquaculture business is still carried out traditionally such as the use of ground ponds, feeding management that relies on natural feed, packaging that is not in accordance with standards, and fish marketing that only uses the direct selling technique (word of mouth). The obstacles faced by partners are limited knowledge on utilizing the potential of tilapia cultivation and processing, as well as the lack of planning and strategies of product marketing. This community service activity aims to provide insight into the potential for tilapia business development, introduce processed small tilapia fish called crispy baby fish as a healthy snack with economic value, and explain the description of business analysis, good packaging techniques, and online marketing. This activity was carried out with a socialization method or presentation of material to the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group of 35 people. The material presented were introduction to tilapia farming, the business potential of crispy tilapia snacks, an overview of business analysis, and online marketing strategies. The conclusion obtained from community service activities in Nagrak Village is needed for training activities to increase community knowledge and skills on developing the potential of the tilapia business.
