Abstract

The waters of West Sumatra are one of the richest in Indonesia, and they have potential in the fisheries sector. They use various types of fishing gear, one of which is boat bagan. One of the most common fishing tools in fishing ports is the boat bagan in the waters of Carocok Tarusan, West Sumatra. The catches usually caught by boats are anchovies and tuna. The research aims to determine boat bagan composition in Carocok Tarusan Waters, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. This research was carried out on 20 July – 20 August 2023. The method used in this research was a survey method, with direct observations in the field and conducting interviews with fishermen. The tools used in this research were scales, a logbook, a cellphone camera, a ruler, a fishfinder, and a refractometer. The materials used are catches from bagan boats. The data is then calculated and differentiated between main catch, bycatch, and discard. The results of this research show that the composition of the main catch of boat charts is anchovies (Stolephorus spp) as much as 875 kg (24.7%) and tuna (Euthynnus affinis) 888 kg (25%). At the same time, fish that are bycatch consists of several types of fish, namely, trevally (Selaroides leptolepis) as much as 248 kg (7%), peperek (Aurigequula fasciata) as much as 710 kg (20%), mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) as much as 457 kg (12.9%), squid (Loligo sp) as much as 104 kg (2.93%), and mackerel scad (Decapterus) as much as 267 kg (7.5%), for the discarded catch, namely pufferfish (Tetraodontidae) as much as 0.25 kg (0.01 %). The discard catch consists of pufferfish

Abstract

Carocok Tarusan Fishing Port is one of the fishing ports in West Sumatra Province and is a place for fishing activities in Pesisir Selatan Regency with high productivity. Factors that affect the productivity of fishermen include social and economic factors, such as the amount of capital, number of ships, number of workers, distance traveled at sea, and experience. The fishing fleet commonly used is Bagan, with as many as 171 units. Bagan ships in the Carocok Tarusan are dominated by ships measuring ≤30 GT, as many as 162 ships, while those measuring >30 GT are nine ships widely used by fishermen in the Carocok Tarusan Waters are ships measuring ≤30GT. This study aimed to determine the productivity of Bagan Perahu catches based on differences in ship size. This study was conducted from July 2023 to August 2023. The method used in this study was the survey method, with direct observation in the field, conducting interviews with fishermen, and recording the catch using a bagan ship. The types of fish caught using Bagan are Anchovi, Mackerel Scad, and Mackerel Tuna (main catch). Peperek fish, skipjack tuna, Indian Mackerel, Selar fish and Squid (bycatch). Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that in the waters of the Carocok Tarusan, Anchovies are the most commonly caught catch using a boat lift net. Ships measuring 1-10 GT have a higher productivity value than ships measuring 11-20 GT and ships measuring 21-30 GT. With a correlation value (R) approaching 1, the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable is stated to be very strong. Meanwhile, the results of multiple linear regression show that 81.14% is influenced by the independent variables (trip, ship size (GT), crew, fuel, and logistics).

Abstract

Sadu District is located in East Tanjung Jabung Regency and consists of 9 villages, one of which is Sungai Jambat Village which is characterized by turbid, wavy, muddy, and sandy waters. The majority of fishermen in Sungai Jambat Village use bottom gillnet fishing gear with a mesh size of 3.5 inches and 4 inches. The purpose of this study was to compare the catches of bottom gillnet with mesh sizes of 3.5 inches and 4 inches in the waters of Sungai Jambat Village. The method used in this research is the experimental fishing method. The data collected includes environmental parameters, catch per species (head), and number of catches (head), weight per species (kg), and the total weight of catch (kg). The data analysis used is the descriptive analysis of an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the 3.5-inch mesh treatment was significantly higher than the 4-inch mesh treatment (p<0.05) in terms of the number and weight of bottom gillnet catches. In the 3.5-inch mesh size, the catch was 3,067 individuals with a weight of 248.40 kg, and the number of catches in the 4-inch mesh size was 2,820 individuals with a weight of 234.60 kg. The highest number of catches was leaftail croaker found in a 3.5-inch mesh size of 1,393 individuals, and mantis shrimp was the heaviest catch in a 3.5-inch mesh size weighing 69 kg. Pomfret is the lowest catch in terms of quantity and weight. The conclusion of this study in terms of the number and weight of catches with a 3.5-inch mesh size is higher than the 4-inch mesh size.

Abstract

The fishing gear used by fishermen in catching mantis shrimp is a gillnet. The purpose of the study was to determine the elasticity of mesh size and net length to the production of mantis shrimp catch. The gillnet used in this study has a mesh size of 3.5 inches and 4 inches and a net length of 900 m, 1050 m and 1200 m. The method used in this study is a survey, and the data analysis used is the Cobb Douglas production function using SPSS version 26 and subsequently in the elasticity analysis. The results of the descriptive study both in number and composition show that the production of mantis shrimp catch based on mesh size in Kuala Tungkal waters is the most using a size of 4 inches, which is as many as 480 fish or 50.57%, while based on the length of the net, the most is using a size of 1,200 m, which is 419 fish or 45.15%. Simultaneous analysis of the signification obtained was 0.00 < 0.05, meaning that the mesh size and net length together had a significant influence on the production of mantis shrimp catch, while partially the significance value for the mesh size was 0.00 < 0.05 and the net length also had a significance of 0.00 < 0.05 which means that the mesh size and net length had an effect on the production of mantis shrimp catch. Based on the elasticity analysis, the value of the parameter coefficient of the cobb douglas regression equation is 1.229 or greater than 1, which means that the production of mantis shrimp catch is included in the category of increasing return to scale or the change in output obtained will be greater than the input used

Abstract

Lubuk Larangan is a form of customary conservation area as a form of fish conservation and breeding ground for fish. Diversity in the Lubuk Larangan area can be used as a form of river ecosystem conservation and help identify endangered species and the sustainability of the conservation area. This study aims to determine the level of diversity, uniformity, abundance and dominance of fish in the traditional conservation area of Lubuk Larangan in Nagari Pelangai Kaciak, South Pesisir Regency. This research was conducted in October 2024 using the survey method. The results showed that the fish obtained were 7 species with the highest composition of crisp fish (Tor tambroides) 47%. Diversity index (H') with a value of 1.37 medium category. The uniformity index (E) with a value of 0.7 is included in the high category. The dominance index (C) with a value of 0.32 is included in the low category. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that the indigenous conservation area of Lubuk Larangan in Nagari Pelangai Kaciak has fish diversity in the medium category, which means that the waters are in a stable and supportive condition to be used as a conservation area.
