Abstract

This study aims to examine the hematological profile of the blood of Kampung Unggul Balitnak (KUB) chickens given turmeric additives because the curcumin content in turmeric increases appetite and has antioxidant activity. The study was carried out from July to August 2021 at the Poultry Animal Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, Halu Oleo University, Kendari using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications with the research sample consisting of 40 KUB chickens aged 4 months. The variables observed in the study were blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels and uric acid. The results of the study showed that the administration of turmeric flour at a level of 0.5 grams – 2 grams did not have a significant effect (P>0,5) on blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid levels. Thus, it can be concluded that the blood hematology of superior balitnak free-range chickens with turmeric flour does not have a significant effect on blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the carcass components of super free-range chicken on fermented corn cobs with different levels. This research was carried out in the laboratory of the Poultry Livestock Unit, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Halu Oleo Kendari. This study used 64 super free-range chickens using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely P0 (feed without fermented corn cobs) P1 (feed containing 2% fermented corn cobs) P2 (feed containing 4% fermented corn cobs) P3 (feed containing 4% fermented corn cobs) feed containing 6% fermented corn cobs) and 4 replications. The variables observed were slaughter weight, carcass percentage, carcass components, and abdominal fat. The data obtained were tabulated and analysed using analysis of variance. The use of fermented corn cobs in feed with a level of 2-6% does not significant effect (P>0.05) on slaughter weight, percentage of carcass, but significant effect (P<0,05) on abdominal fat of super native chicken.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ratio of rice husk, sawdust, and lime as litter to the production performance of broiler chickens. This research was conducted at the Poultry Farm Unit Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Halu Oleo University. The treatment consisted of: P1 = 100% rice husk, P2 = 100% sawdust, P3 = 70% rice husk + 25% sawdust + 5% lime, P4 = 25% rice husk + 70% sawdust + 5% lime P5 = 47.5% rice husk + 47.5% sawdust + 5% lime. A completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications was used in this study. Each repetition consisted of 5 chickens. Variables observed included ration consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion, litter pH, and temperature. The results showed that broiler chickens' values of feed consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion were 139.8-145.1 gram/head/day; 71.1-74.6 grams/head/day, and 1.85-2.01. The pH and temperature of the litter ranged between 6.2-8.3 and 33.3-34.2oC. The study concluded that the rice husk, sawdust, and lime ratio had no significant effect (P>0.05) on broiler chickens' consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion.

Abstract

Chicken slaughter had to fulfill requirements such as the slaughter done in Islamic ways and the meat processed hygienically in order to produce safe, healthy, whole, and halal. Partner farmer at Alebo, Konda Sub-district, Konawe Selatan Regency implemented a simple slaughter system with less hygienic tools and procedures that increased the risk of contamination in meat. This community partnership program aimed to increase the farmer’s information and skill in managing native chicken slaughterhouses in order to produce better carcass and fish feed from slaughter waste. The methods used in this program were physical and non-physical methods which consisted of the slaughterhouse renovation, chicken slaughter, and carcass packaging training, fish feed production using slaughter waste training, discussion, and public lecture. Results of the program show that partner farmers are able to implement Islamic and hygienic slaughter processes and use better packages for the carcass. The farmers also understand the importance of slaughter waste processing and producing fish feed as an additional product of the slaughterhouse.

Abstract

Rice straw is the main waste that is usually stored and used by farmers as animal feed during the long dry season when fresh forage is difficult to obtain. Various treatment methods have been used to increase the nutritional value of rice straw. One of them is fermentation technology that can increase the nutrition of rice straw. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of the farming community, breeders through technical guidance in developing the ability to use rice straw as dry season animal feed in the Ladongi sub-district, East Kolaka Regency. The method used is lecture, discussion, demonstration, and practice. The targets of this activity are farmers in general and groups of farmers at the location of the activity. The results of this community service activity are that farmers are very interested and motivated to use straw as an alternative feed for cattle. The target is to understand and understand rice straw processing technology, namely the manufacture of straw ammonia which is more practical and easier than other straw processing technologies

Abstract

Community service program providing technical guidance by the Halu Oleo University KKN-Thematic Team to the farmers. Implementation of activities carried out in Wonua Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. This activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers in processing rice straw as ruminant feed so that it can fulfill shortage of feed during the dry season. The method of implementing the activity begins with with a location survey in Wonua Village, analyzing the problems experienced and exploring the potential that exists in Wonua Village, implementing technical guidance, and evaluation of activities. Wonua farmer is given additional knowledge through the technical guidance activities of straw ammoniation so that they can maximize rice straw that has no previous useful value into ruminant feed. This activity involved the thematic KKN team from the faculty of animal husbandry UHO, students participating in KKN and also the farmers. This technical guidance has been able to provide additional knowledge for the community to independently process rice straw into ammoniated straw which is useful when there is a shortage of animal feed useful when there is a scarcity of ruminant feed.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to ensure the safety of livestock-origin food products through the evaluation of microbial contamination potential in production-support facilities. The study was conducted by isolating and characterizing bacteria from poultry slaughter facilities in several traditional markets in Kendari City. Swab samples were taken from chicken holding pens in five traditional markets. The market locations were determined using purposive sampling, with the daily slaughter quantity as the main indicator. Isolation was performed by observing bacterial colony growth, and characterization was carried out by observing the morphology of bacterial colonies on specific differential media using Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA). Bacterial confirmation was done through microscopic observation based on the shape and morphology of bacteria in Gram staining. The results of this study indicate that bacteria can be isolated from all poultry slaughterhouses in traditional markets in Kendari City. Characterization results show that the bacteria were confirmed as Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp., and Pseudomonas sp. The low implementation of Good Hygiene Practices in production execution is a major supporting factor for the presence of bacteria as a source of contamination. Periodic supervision by relevant authorities is necessary as an effort to ensure the safety of livestock-origin food products.

Abstract

Kampong chicken is one of the most common types of poultry bred by people throughout Indonesia. Kampong chickens have several limitations such as relatively slow growth and low egg production. One solution to overcome this is by utilizing hatching using an incubator. The incubator can eliminate the brooding period in the brood so that the hen can be more productive and able to produce more eggs. This Bina Desa activity was carried out in Opaasi Village, South Konawe Regency with kampong chicken farmers as target partners. This activity involves a team of lecturers from the UHO Faculty of Animal Science and is carried out in several stages, namely: socialization, technical guidance on making hatching machines, hatching assistance, and evaluation of activities. The result of this activity is that it can provide additional knowledge and skills to native chicken farmers about the manufacture of hatching machines and their technical use of them.
