Abstract

Abstract

This study explores how the alumni of the Raudhatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Metro City contribute to community empowerment through the Living Qur’an framework. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of alumni-led initiatives in sustaining religious knowledge and practices in a city undergoing cultural and religious transitions. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with alumni and pesantren caregivers, as well as documentation of institutional and community activities. The analysis employs Jim Ife’s community development theory and Robert D. Putnam’s social capital theory to assess how alumni utilize social trust, norms, and networks to promote Quranic values within society. The findings reveal a distinct model of Living Qur’an-based community empowerment implemented through three main strategies: active community participation, social justice, and local capacity building. The study concludes that the alumni effectively preserve and revitalize Quranic culture by leveraging their social capital, reinforcing the potential of religious institutions as drivers of community development in urban transitional contexts. This research contributes to the discourse on Islamic education, social cohesion, and faith-based community empowerment in contemporary urban settings.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the values in Surah al-Qamar, verses 17, 22, 32, and 40, to enhance motivation to memorize the Qur’an among non-pesantren basic-level students at Ma’had al-Jāmi’ah, UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, using phenomenological methods and the Living Qur’an study framework. Data collection techniques include participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the students have gradually internalized the values of Surah al-Qamar through mentoring activities, memorization submissions, and the cultivation of a supportive environment. Although the implementation of these verses is still in its early stages, students have shown increased motivation, perseverance, and self-confidence in their memorization journey. These findings suggest that strengthening Qur’anic values can be an effective strategy in fostering tahfiz motivation, especially for those without a pesantren background. This research makes an initial contribution to the development of Living Qur’an practices in higher education settings focused on tahfiz.

Abstract

Studies on Islam in Lampung have thus far provided limited insight into the nature of the relationship between Islam and local culture during the early period of its introduction. This study aims to examine that relationship as represented in Memang (ritual chants) from Lampung. This research employs a qualitative design using a philological approach. The primary data source consists of the transcription and transliteration of a bark-paper manuscript from the Lampung Museum, inventory number 2476. The data are analyzed through the theoretical framework of Islam as a discursive tradition, as articulated by Talal Asad. The findings indicate that Bark Manuscript No. 2476 contains four Memang texts that reflect a discursive relationship between Islam and Lampung culture. This relationship is manifested through five key indicators: (1) the positioning of Islam as a source of sacred legitimacy; (2) the integration of Islamic discourse into local ritual language; (3) the continuity and rearticulation of local cosmology; (4) the construction of a semantic hierarchy within the structure of the Memang texts; and (5) the performativity of ritual language as an operational expression of Islamic discourse. This study concludes that the configuration of Memang texts in Lampung reflects a discursive mode of interaction between Islam and local culture, in which local religious practices operate within Islam as a discursive tradition.

Abstract

Lecturers have the main task to carry out the Tridharma of Higher Education which includes teaching and education, conducting research and community service. In addition, there are other activities that lecturers must carry out, such as holding structural positions and becoming members of committees or working groups that carry out activities for faculties or universities. However, in carrying out their duties and responsibilities there are many demands and pressures on lecturers which, when not going well as they should, are thought to encourage the onset of stress which can lead to burnout. This study aims to determine the relationship between work life balance and ethical organization culture with burnout in lecturers. The population in this study were lecturers who were civil servants and PPPK at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Sampling using accidental sampling technique obtained 103 subjects then analyzed with multiple regression analysis techniques. The results of this study found that work life balance and ethical organization culture jointly affect burnout in lecturers (R = 0.648; F = 36.171; p < .001) with an effective contribution of 42% (R2 = 0.420). So this study concluded that the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted with the assumption that the higher the work life balance and ethical organization culture in lecturers, the lower the level of burnout in lecturers. Abstract

Determining the beginning of the Hijri months often gives rise to differences of opinion, especially between Islamic organizations Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). These differences stem from the different method used for hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyat (moon sighting), as well as the interpretation of Quranic verses. This study aims to analyze the interpretation of Quranic verses concerning the crescent moon and hisab to compare the perspectives of Muhammadiyah and NU. This study uses a qualitative approach with the thematic interpretation method of Quranic verses related to the crescent moon and reckoning. Data were obtained from primary sources such as the Koran and tafsir books, as well as secondary sources such as books and journals. The data were then analyzed comparatively to identify differences between the two groups. The results show that Muhammadiyah prioritizes hisab based on rational interpretation of Quranic verses, while NU prioritizes rukyat with a textual approach based on texts and hadith. These differences have practical implications for determining the beginning of hijri, which are often inconsistent. Different understandings of verses about the crescent moon and hisab reflect the epistemological characteristics of each mass organization. Despite their differing approaches, both aim to safeguard the validity of sharia and the unity of the Muslim community.
