Abstract

Developing a productive waqf management model as an alternative source of income is a strategic need for Islamic higher education in Indonesia, especially amidst the increasing need for sustainable financing. However, waqf management in educational institutions still faces various problems, such as low literacy in productive waqf, suboptimal asset utilization, limited human resources, and weak public trust due to transparency and accountability issues. This study aims to analyze the management of productive waqf and formulate a development model in Islamic higher education. The study used a qualitative evaluative approach through field studies at the Waqf Board of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor and STF UIN Jakarta. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed using data triangulation, SWOT, IFAS, and EFAS. The results indicate that both institutions are in Quadrant I, making an aggressive growth strategy a relevant approach. The novelty of this study lies in the productive waqf management model that integrates waqf literacy, professionalization of governance, asset optimization, institutional collaboration, and continuous evaluation as the basis for the financial independence of Islamic higher education. This model can be adapted by Islamic universities according to their institutional character, asset potential, social networks, and management capacity in a contextual and sustainable manner.

Abstract

The declining effectiveness of Islamic preaching in the modern era indicates the need for a communicative approach that engages both the rational and emotional dimensions of human beings. In this context, the Qur’an offers a powerful rhetorical framework through the concepts of targhīb (motivation and promise) and tarhīb (warning and deterrence) as persuasive instruments of da‘wah. This study aims to analyze the role of Qur’anic rhetoric in verses containing targhīb and tarhīb as a method of preaching capable of fostering moral and spiritual awareness within contemporary society. Employing a qualitative method based on thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i), this research systematically identifies, classifies, and analyzes relevant verses to uncover their rhetorical patterns and ethical messages. The findings reveal that Qur’anic rhetoric integrates logical reasoning, aesthetic expression, and spiritual depth in conveying divine guidance effectively. Verses of targhīb cultivate hope, optimism, and moral transformation through promises of divine mercy and reward, while verses of tarhīb reinforce ethical responsibility through reminders of accountability and punishment. The synergy between these two elements produces a balanced model of preaching that harmonizes hope and caution, shaping reflective and morally grounded individuals. This study affirms the continued relevance of Qur’anic rhetoric as a foundation for developing contextual, humane, and communicative models of da‘wah in response to contemporary social change.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Al-Qur’an menekankan pentingnya tawadhu’ sebagai akhlak mulia. QS. Ibn ‘Arabi mengajarkan kedalaman batin, Al-‘Alusi mengajarkan praktik sosial.

Abstract

This study stems from the absence of previous studies that tend to interpret QS. al-Isrā' (17): 70 normatively without connecting it to contemporary moral and social realities, while modern dehumanization such as discrimination, marginalization, structural inequality, and ecological crises are still ongoing. Using Fazlur Rahman's Double Movement Hermeneutics, this study attempts to recontextualize the understanding of human dignity (karāmah) by exploring the meaning of the verse and the historical dynamics behind it. This method is applied in two main stages. The first stage traces the socio-historical context and meaning structure of QS. al-Isrā' (17): 70, reinforced by classical exegesis analysis such as Ath-Thabari, Al-Razi, and Az-Zamakhsharī, to explore the basic principles of human dignity as intended by the text. The second stage brings these principles into the reality of modern life in order to produce an understanding that is relevant to the challenges of humanity today. The results of the study show that human dignity in this verse is ontological and theological in nature, inherent in every individual as a creation of Allah and demanding collective moral responsibility in communal life. Recontextualization through Rahman's methodology produces four main principles of human dignity, namely the principles of equality, civilization building, resource management, and solidarity. This finding confirms that QS. al-Isrā' (17): 70 not only contains recognition of human dignity, but also provides a functional ethical framework that can be used to respond comprehensively to contemporary humanitarian issues.

Abstract

This study explores how the alumni of the Raudhatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Metro City contribute to community empowerment through the Living Qur’an framework. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of alumni-led initiatives in sustaining religious knowledge and practices in a city undergoing cultural and religious transitions. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with alumni and pesantren caregivers, as well as documentation of institutional and community activities. The analysis employs Jim Ife’s community development theory and Robert D. Putnam’s social capital theory to assess how alumni utilize social trust, norms, and networks to promote Quranic values within society. The findings reveal a distinct model of Living Qur’an-based community empowerment implemented through three main strategies: active community participation, social justice, and local capacity building. The study concludes that the alumni effectively preserve and revitalize Quranic culture by leveraging their social capital, reinforcing the potential of religious institutions as drivers of community development in urban transitional contexts. This research contributes to the discourse on Islamic education, social cohesion, and faith-based community empowerment in contemporary urban settings.

Abstract

This article examines the Qur’an as a living text through reception hermeneutics, with attention to transformations in Qur’anic reception from Muslim traditions to digital environments. It treats the Qur’an as a source of meaning enacted through readers’ engagements, ritual practices, cultural expressions, social ethics, and intellectual production. The article employs qualitative library research, drawing on scholarship on living Qur’an, reception theory, Qur’anic hermeneutics, and digital religion. The analysis identifies five interconnected forms of Qur’anic reception in Muslim traditions: textual, ritual, cultural-aesthetic, social, and intellectual. Digital media extend these forms through Qur’an applications, social media, online learning, visual content, and interactive platforms. This shift reshapes relations among text, readers, media, and religious authority by expanding access and participation while exposing Qur’anic messages to decontextualization, fragmented authority, and visibility-driven circulation. Reception hermeneutics provides a conceptual framework for examining how Qur’anic meaning is received, enacted, circulated, and negotiated in contemporary Muslim societies. The analysis also indicates the need for attention to source integrity, interpretive validity, and digital religious literacy in contemporary Qur’anic studies.
