Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as a revolutionary force that is changing how we interact and work and redefining the global education landscape, especially Vocational Education (VE). AI is an opportunity to develop learning research and good vocational Education. However, this opportunity has not been correctly utilized because not all educators can develop research and AI-based learning content well. This article reveals opportunities for current and future research development related to AI and vocational Education through bibliometric analysis. The database comes from Scopus, and 159 articles were analyzed from 2014 to 2023. Bibliometric analysis of documents, including author name, journal network, country, and keywords, is visualized using the VOSviewer program. The findings reveal three key insights: (1) research remains concentrated in vocational health, with limited exploration in other sectors such as engineering, tourism, and agriculture; (2) international collaboration is still weak, despite strong potential between countries with high and emerging publication rates; and (3) keyword clusters highlight Apprenticeship, Students, Artificial Intelligence, and Engineering Education as the main thematic areas. These insights form a roadmap for future research that emphasizes diversifying AI applications across vocational sectors, fostering cross-border collaboration, and developing innovative themes around curricula, personalized learning, and simulation-based training. Despite limitations related to database and language scope, this study offers strategic directions for advancing AI in VE research and strengthening its contributions to global vocational education development.

Abstract

Society 5.0 demands individuals who demonstrate integrated character, knowledge, and skills to navigate technology-driven environments. However, existing research rarely compares different estimation strategies in Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) when modeling competency structures. This study aims to identify stable competency indicators for the Society 5.0 era (C-5.0) using several CFA estimation approaches across ordinal and continuous data types. A quantitative survey was conducted with Indonesian TVET academics and practitioners, and data were analyzed using multiple statistical simulations. The model included 30 manifest indicators representing affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains. Findings reveal that only six indicators consistently remained robust across estimation techniques: curiosity, environmental care, and social care (character domain); creative thinking and innovative thinking (knowledge domain); and cooperative skills (skills domain). One indicator—critical thinking—did not satisfy goodness-of-fit criteria in any estimation scenario, suggesting that its contribution may be context-dependent within TVET environments. These findings highlight that not all theoretically important indicators operate similarly under different measurement conditions. Methodologically, the study emphasizes the importance of testing alternative CFA estimation strategies when competency frameworks involve mixed data types. Practically, the results provide policymakers and vocational institutions with empirically validated priorities for curriculum development, focusing on competencies that demonstrate measurement stability in real-world contexts. Future studies should examine longitudinal validation and cross-cultural replication to strengthen generalizability.

Abstract

The work readiness of vocational graduates is crucial for realizing Independent Learning and Independent Campus (MBKM (acronyms in Bahasa)). However, there are pros and cons from various parties and issues regarding the lack of readiness (competence) of vocational graduates in the 4.0 era, and few discussions about the relationship between this and MBKM. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the best practices in MBKM for the work readiness of vocational graduates in the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution by applying a quantitative survey method. The results of the study reveal that character is the dominant factor for vocational work readiness in the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution, followed by technical and non-technical competencies, with the conclusion that character and its sub-aspects, such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, hard work, a creative attitude (open to new ideas), and curiosity, are fundamental to supporting the future of vocational graduates who are able to compete globally
