Abstract

The prevalence of cancer in Indonesia has increased and is one of the biggest causes of death. Symptom clusters, a collection of symptoms in cancer patients that appear together and are related to one another, can affect the quality of life of cancer patients. This study aims to identify the relationship between symptom clusters and the quality of life of advanced cancer patients. This research used cross-sectional quantitative survey data from a cancer patient care unit at a referral hospital in West Java Province with a total of 140 respondents. Consecutive sampling was conducted for three months in stage III or IV cancer patients who were undergoing therapy. This study used descriptive analysis, factor analysis with the Principal Components Analysis (PCA) approach, and multiple linear regression analysis. Five symptom clusters were identified: the psychological cluster, the gastrointestinal cluster, the numbness cluster, the pain cluster, and the respiratory distress cluster. The results showed that symptom clusters influence the quality-of-life dimension. The symptom clusters’ coefficient of determination (R2) for the physical dimension was 0.231 (weak), the role dimension was 0.191 (very weak), the emotional dimension was 0.484 (moderate), the cognitive dimension was 0.011 (very weak), the social dimension was 0.420 (moderate), and the general-health dimension was 0.202 (weak).

Abstract

The learning environment is an important component in determining the quality and success of the nursing education curriculum. A learning environment that is not supportive can result in decreased student learning performance, including decreased interest and motivation, anxiety and stress, and reduced self-confidence. Evaluation of the learning environment helps improve the quality of the learning environment which consists of the learning process, teaching staff, academic achievement, learning atmosphere, and social environment. This research aims to identify a description of the learning environment for students in the Padjadjaran University nursing professional study program. This research design will use a quantitative descriptive research design. The sampling technique that will be used is proportionate stratified random sampling with 142 nursing professional students as samples. The instrument used is the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) with 50 statement items. The data analysis that will be carried out is univariate analysis. The results of research on the learning environment dimension show an average score of 148.96/200 in the good category. The average is obtained for each sub-variable; learning process (35.44/48), teaching staff (33.74/44), academic achievement (25.44/32), learning atmosphere (34.49/48), and social environment (19.82/28). Academic achievement with the highest score and social environment with the lowest score. The assessment of the learning environment for nursing professional students shows the Good category, which means that the learning environment for the nursing profession is running well, although there are things that need to be improved and corrected to improve the quality of learning.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer presents significant psychological challenges along with physical health concerns, particularly in settings where cultural and spiritual values play a critical role in patient care. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of a religious caring program on the psychological well-being of Indonesian females with breast cancer. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest control group design, conducted from January to July 2019 at a chemotherapy unit in Bandung, Indonesia. The patients with breast cancer were assigned to the experimental group (n = 55) and the control group (n = 57). Data were collected using the Psychological Well-Being Scale before and three weeks after the intervention. The data were analyzed using independent t-test and ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance). Results: There was a significant improvement in the mean psychological well-being score in the experimental group following the intervention compared to the control group, with the experimental group showing a significantly higher mean score (Cohen’s d = 1.4548, p <0.001). None of the covariates significantly affected psychological well-being among the experimental group (p >0.05). Conclusion: These results indicate that a religion-based caring program enhances psychological well-being. Thus, the program was effective and particularly well-suited for clinical nurses, suggesting that it should be recommended for Indonesian females with breast cancer to promote their recovery.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of nurses for leadership development in community health service settings. The research method used in this literature review is a narrative review. The literature sources used in the article search process are databases from PubMed, EBSCO cinahl, and Google Scholar. The study's results show that nurse leadership capacity development analysis consists of leadership, commitment, resources, culture, spirituality, and technology. Capacity building is a process of developing and improving organizational resources' skills, talents, and capabilities as a necessity to grow the organization in an era of rapid change. Implementing capacity building for nurse leadership in the community has yet to run optimally. This has implications for an organizational structure that only works effectively due to weak coordination between nurses and other health workers. Commitment, communication, collaboration, and delegation of staff responsibilities are soft, and the use of health resources could be more optimal. Capacity building is an effort to improve the ability of nurses in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior. In conclusion, community leadership is different from specific organizations or individuals. Leadership in society must be able to quickly assess needs and trends, use all available data and information sources, then develop innovative actions, and plan and evaluate results using quality monitoring systems.
