Abstract

The increasing number of patients with life-threatening diseases will affect the high need for palliative care in health services. Self-efficacy towards palliative care among undergraduate students is vital for ensuring they have adequate readiness and ability to provide high-quality care. Objective : This review aims to identify the level of self-efficacy towards palliative care among undergraduate nursing students. Method : The method used in this literature review is a rapid narrative review compiled using PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The databases used were PubMed, Medline, Scopus and ScienceDirect. Articles used are research articles with published from 2020-2024. The criteria in this study were organized based on the PCC framework criteria. The main keywords were not limited to “undergraduate nursing student*”, “self-efficacy”, and “palliative care”. Results : Nine out of 167 studies were included. The findings discussed the level of self-efficacy and factors that influence self-efficacy towards palliative care in clinical learning among undergraduate nursing students. Conclusions : Low self-efficacy indicates undergraduate nursing students' unpreparedness to provide palliative care. Nursing students need self-efficacy towards palliative care to ensure adequate readiness and ability to provide high-quality palliative care. This review is essential to improve the quality of palliative care education and increase self-efficacy in undergraduate nursing students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The level of Quality of Nursing Work Life (QNWL) in nurses is quite diverse and is also influenced by various factors. Identifying factors that influence QNWL is very important to increase job satisfaction which can increase nurse productivity. This study aims to identify the factors that affect the quality of work life in hospital nurse clinicians. This study used the scoping review method with the PRISMA ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. The inclusion criteria used were articles with an RCT, cohort and cross-sectional design, in English and full-text. Some databases such as PubMed, Cinahl, and the search engine Google Scholar were used to search the study. We found 15 articles that met the criteria and came from 8 countries (Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Malaysia, Iran, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan and Slovenia). The number of samples from the studies obtained varied quite widely from a minimum of 40 respondents to a maximum of 2391 respondents. The results of the analysis show that the QWL level of nurses working in hospitals is quite varied with the majority being in the low to moderate category (low score, 42-112 and moderate score, 113-182), three studies that obtained nurses' QWL results in the good range (high score, 183-252). Conclusion: An assessment of predictor factors of QNWL can help to make improvements to each factor in order to improve the nursing care services provided, and of course reduce the nurse turnover rate. Keywords: Hospital, Nurse, Predictors, Quality of Work Life

Abstract

Nurses play a pivotal role in determining the quality of healthcare services. Job satisfaction among nurses not only influences their professional performance but also directly affects the quality of patient care. Dissatisfaction may lead to burnout, errors, and decreased patient safety. This study aimed to identify and analyze the factors related to nurses’ job satisfaction and to explore how these factors impact the quality of patient services. A scoping review was conducted using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature searches were performed through PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar based on the PCC framework. Articles were selected through a systematic screening process, and data were extracted and analyzed thematically. The review identified 25 key factors associated with nurses’ job satisfaction, categorized into four main domains: (1) organizational and leadership factors, (2) individual nurse characteristics, (3) work environment, and (4) professional development and practice. Supportive leadership, organizational commitment, and recognition were strongly associated with higher satisfaction. Improving nurses’ job satisfaction through targeted strategies is a critical component for ensuring high-quality patient care and favorable outcomes. Strategies such as enhancing work conditions, fostering leadership support, and providing development opportunities are vital for strengthening both nurses' well-being and patient outcomes.

Abstract

Children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (LLA) are at risk of developmental delays due to the effects of long-term therapy and repeated hospitalisations. This study aims to describe the application of fine motor development stimulation through play therapy, based on the family-centred care approach, for children with LLA who experience developmental delays. Methods: This study used a case study design on a 2-year-old hospitalized at RSUD Welas Asih. Denver II results indicated a delay in fine motor development because he was unable to grasp a pencil or scribble on paper. The intervention lasted 4 days and included family education, pencil-grasping exercises, scribbling activities, and the introduction of simple puzzles. The result showed an improvement in fine motor coordination, with a score increase from 7 to 8. Active family involvement during therapy enhanced the child’s motivation and supported the continuity of stimulation at home. This simple intervention proved effective in supporting the fine motor development of children with chronic diseases and aligned with principles of pediatric palliative care, which focus on improving the quality of life of children and families. Ongoing stimulation and continued use of puzzle activities at home are recommended to further strengthen hand coordination and concentration skills.

Abstract

Cancer is a chronic illness with a long and complex trajectory, beginning from the pre-diagnostic phase, followed by diagnostic procedures such as biopsy, treatment-related side effects, and ongoing uncertainty regarding treatment outcomes. This uncertainty often heightens patient anxiety, particularly during the biopsy phase, when waiting for results can generate psychological distress comparable to the stress experienced upon receiving a cancer diagnosis. Interactive briefing grounded in an Early Palliative Care (EPC) approach plays an important role in supporting patients’ coping processes, especially in preparing them to receive bad news and face future conditions. This case report describes the application of interactive briefing as an EPC approach in Mrs. E, a 40-year-old postpartum woman on her third day following delivery, who was scheduled to undergo a breast biopsy. The intervention involved therapeutic communication and psychosocial support. Findings indicate a reduction in anxiety, improved psychological readiness, and enhanced patient resilience in dealing with her condition.
