Abstract

The integration of literature into English language teaching (ELT) is increasingly recognized for its ability to enhance linguistic skills and cultural awareness. This literature review aims to provide valuable insights and recommendations for best practices in applying literature within ELT across various educational contexts. Employing a literature review methodology, the study examines both primary and secondary sources, including recent articles, conference papers, and other relevant documents obtained from academic databases and online search engines such as Google Scholar and ERIC. The review process involves selecting pertinent publications, collecting and analyzing data, discussing related topics, integrating supporting information, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that while integrating literature into ELT presents certain challenges, such as selecting appropriate texts and addressing varied student proficiency levels, it also offers significant opportunities for enriching language instruction. Additionally, various effective strategies for integrating literature into ELT across different countries are identified. The study highlights the potential of literature to improve English language teaching and provides recommendations for leveraging literary resources to maximize educational benefits.

Abstract

In general, the potential for dry land in North Lombok Regency is very broad with low river water potential, including in Salut Village. This village is a fairly large area of dry land and is a hilly area that has the potential to be used as agricultural land for horticultural crops. There is no surface water potential in this area and the only existing water source is groundwater, namely from deep groundwater wells. So the existing land has the potential to be used for farming seasonal crops such as chilies, tomatoes and others. However, because of the people's habit of carrying out agricultural activities in the rainy season, the land in the dry season is left idle. To increase land use in the dry season, it is necessary to encourage the creation of horticultural planting land so that in the dry season people can cultivate these crops. The aim of this service is knowledge and improving residents' skills in creating horticultural agricultural land for farming in the dry season using drip irrigation. This service stage consists of field inspection and outreach, land preparation practices and planting areas, preparation and installation of drip irrigation, discussions and questions and answers as well as evaluation. Finally, the community service has succeeded in training 7 community representatives in creating horticultural planting areas, such as clearing land, plowing, making plots and making beds. Participants were able to make planting beds because the plots of planting land were smaller and knew how to make and install drip irrigation in raised beds, and knew how to obtain and maintain it. The activity evaluation was carried out by the service team, when they saw the results of the land preparation during the implementation process by looking at their seriousness, the participants understood and gained additional knowledge in preparing planting land and installing drip irrigation networks on the land.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Senggigi Village, West Lombok Regency, with the aim of increasing the capacity and social role of Senggigi residents, especially the TP-PKK women of Senggigi Village, as agents of change through the implementation of urban farming based on an Integrated Farming System (IFS). The activities included socialization, training in horticultural cultivation (eggplant, chili, tomato, water spinach, pakcoy), poultry raising, catfish farming through budikdamber and independent ponds. The activities were accompanied by intensive mentoring throughout the program. During the mentoring process, significant social transformation was observed, reflected in increased motivation, commitment, and solidarity among members, alongside the development of technical cultivation skills; as well as the initiative of TP-PKK women in implementing urban farming activities to improve family food security. The tangible products produced by the partners included eggs, homegrown vegetables, and catfish harvested during the program. This program provides a tangible and effective impact in strengthening family food security while also creating beneficial group activities, particularly in managing home gardens based on an integrated agricultural system in Senggigi Village.
