Abstract

Despite the turmoil of globalization, national identity becomes a compelling issue since globalization has affected numerous national aspects including education sphere. One of affected educational elements is foreign language since teaching a foreign language will be definitely accompanied by the recognition of foreign culture. Based on this concern, this qualitative study was aimed to explore the moral values of traditional folklores and to integrate them in the teaching English for young learners. Another purpose was to formulate the effort to maintain the learner of national identity through learning local wisdom with focuson traditional folklores. The findings showed that there were a number of values could be explored from the traditional folklores. The values were classified into three categories, namely religious, individual, and social values. It is expected that by learning the traditional folklore in foreign language, the young learners will learn both English and their own culture, simultaneously.

Abstract

Children with special needs (ABK) are children who must receive special treatment, not least in terms of education. Children with special needs have the same right to education. To facilitate educational needs, inclusive schools were created; one of the schools that facilitate this in the Kartasura sub-district is MI Muhammadiyah PK Kartasura, where in its implementation, there is one special teacher who accompanies it, called a shadow teacher. The problem that exists in this inclusive school is that the pull-out class learning needs to be optimized, and the use of available learning media resources needs to be optimized. This research aims to find out 1) the characteristics of children with special needs, 2) the role of shadow teachers for children with special needs, and 3) the optimization strategy used by the pull-out class for children with special needs at MIM PK Kartasura. The method used in this paper is a qualitative descriptive review. Data were collected using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. This research is a case study research that analyzes the subjects and objects that exist more deeply and then concludes. This research uses a data validity test and a data analysis test. The results showed that 1) there are 12 categories of children with disabilities in MIM PK Kartasura, 2) the role of the shadow teacher in the pull-out class has been running well thanks to the cooperation between the shadow teacher and the children with disabilities, 3) the strategy applied to optimize the pull-out class by using a differentiation approach, the shadow teacher monitors the child's progress regularly to find out the child's development, and is supported by providing continuous training to the shadow teacher.

Abstract

Purpose: The study aims to be achieved are (1) Measuring the effect of using audio-visual media on the development of critical thinking skills of elementary school students in science learning and (2) Evaluating the effectiveness of audio-visual media in facilitating in-depth understanding of human circulatory system material. Methodology: The study used quantitative methods with a Quasi-Experimental Design design. Results: The results of average value of students' initial critical thinking skills (pretest value) in the experimental class was 60.60 and the control class was 55.40. Then the average value of students' final critical thinking skills (posttest value) in the experimental class was 85.53 and the control class was 77.06. Based on the hypothesis proposed, it shows that there is a significant increase in the critical thinking skills of students who use audiovisual media, with the average posttest value higher than the control group. From the averages that have been explained, it can be concluded that there is an influence in the use of audio-visual media on the development of critical thinking skills of elementary school students in science learning. Applications/Originality/Value: This research presents a novel approach by examining the use of audio-visual media to develop critical thinking skills in fifth-grade science students. Unlike previous studies that generally focus on improving learning outcomes, this study specifically explores its impact on critical thinking, particularly for complex topics like the human circulatory system, within a primary school setting.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the effectiveness of Canva as a learning medium for teaching the “norms in life” topic within Pancasila Education to fifth‑grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sudirman Ceplukan, with the goal of determining whether digital visual tools can enhance comprehension and retention compared to conventional instruction. Methodology: A quasi‑experimental quantitative design was employed, involving two intact classes: Class V A (control) received traditional lecture‑and‑discussion lessons, while Class V B (experimental) engaged with Canva‑based presentations, infographics, and interactive exercises. Researchers validated a multiple‑choice test for reliability and then administered pretests and posttests. Data analysis included checks for normality and homogeneity, descriptive statistics, independent‑samples t‑testing to compare posttest means, and normalized gain (N‑gain) calculations to assess learning gains. Results: The control class achieved an average posttest score of 71.20, whereas the experimental class scored 85.40. The independent‑samples t‑test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in the Canva group. Moreover, the experimental class’s N‑gain of 0.604 (60.46%) falls into the “quite effective” category, demonstrating that Canva media substantially boosted student learning outcomes over traditional methods. Applications/Originality/Value: By providing empirical evidence of the impact of visually rich, digitally interactive content on student achievement, this study offers a practical model for Pancasila Education and other social‑studies subjects. Educators can leverage Canva to craft engaging materials that cater to diverse learning styles and foster deeper conceptual understanding. These findings advocate for integrating accessible design tools into elementary curricula to promote higher engagement and learning efficacy.
