Abstract

In the 21st-century learning era, the quality of teaching materials is crucial in meeting current educational needs. This study highlights the urgency of developing a science literacy-based textbook for the Earth and Space course to enhance students' scientific literacy competence in the Physics Education Study Program at Mulawarman University. The research aims to analyze the necessity of such a textbook using the 4D development model, focusing on the Define phase to identify key learning challenges and curriculum needs. Data were collected through classroom observations, student questionnaires involving 42 participants from the 2023 cohort, and the formulation of learning outcomes aligned with the three scientific literacy competencies of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA): (1) explaining scientific phenomena (2) evaluating and designing scientific investigations, and (3) interpreting data and scientific evidence. The data analysis process involved data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the current teaching materials do not fully support the learning objectives, leading students to rely on fragmented online resources, often in English. The study also identified a strong demand for structured, interactive textbooks integrating scientific literacy. The validation process involved three expert validators using a Likert scale assessment. This validation resulted in eight valid learning outcomes (CPMK) with a corrected item-total correlation of r > 0.3 and a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.848, confirming high reliability. These findings provide a foundational framework for developing an Earth and Space textbook, ensuring its alignment with science literacy competencies in subsequent research phases.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of an experimental apparatus designed to measure the permeability of metal materials as an instructional medium for enhancing the learning motivation of 12th-grade science students on the topic of magnetic fields. The research was conducted at SMAIT Al Fityah Pekanbaru and MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru, involving 20 students from each institution. The apparatus was specifically developed to facilitate hands-on exploration of magnetic permeability in various metals. Employing a pre-experimental method, the study adopted a Pretest-Posttest Group Design to assess changes in student motivation. Data were collected using a validated ARCS learning motivation questionnaire, which evaluates four components: Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction. Motivation scores were recorded before and after the intervention, and the results were analyzed descriptively using normalized gain (N-Gain) and its corresponding percentage. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ motivation following the use of the experimental tool. The N-Gain percentage reached 86%, surpassing the established threshold for effectiveness (>75%). These results indicate that the tool is not only functional but also pedagogically effective in fostering increased motivation in learning physics, particularly in understanding abstract concepts such as magnetic permeability. Keywords : effectiveness, experimental tools, metallic materials motivation, testing permeability

Abstract

Learners who cannot connect the new knowledge received with previous knowledge will find it difficult to understand learning, causing low learning outcomes. The solution offered is to apply a generative learning model with the probing question method. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of applying a generative learning model with probing question method on the learning outcomes of students in Static Fluid material class XI SMAN 14 Padang. The type of research is Quasi Experimental. The study population was all students of class XI MIPA. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The research sample is XI MIPA 4 class as an experimental class and XI MIPA 5 class as a control class. A written page in the shape of an objective serves as the tool. The findings revealed a substantial contrast between classes using PBL learning models with probing question techniques and classes using generative learning models with these techniques in terms of the learning outcomes of the students. When compared to the control class, the experimental class's average learning outcomes were 81, while it was 78.4. At a significant threshold of alpha = 0.05, it was determined that tcount = 8.704 and ttable = 1.995 based on the equality test of the two averages. If ttable< tcount, then H0 must be disregarded. The significance of tcount lies in the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1, which demonstrate that the generative learning model with the probing question method has a beneficial impact on learning outcomes.
