Abstract

The concept of physics identity plays an essential role for physics teacher professionalism. That is why physics identity development has become a trend of research in West country. Through this study, we aimed to analyze research related to physics identity development in various international journals. We reviewed 17 emphirical studies published in 2013-2023 in reputable journals in context of undergraduate physics. The findings of the study were discussed based on in what ways student’s physics identity development, and what factor that influences the development. We indentify gaps in the existing knowledge base, particularly in Indonesia context, and we purpose further study directions. This study provides an overview of how physics identity development in university and give information where is Indonesia position.

Abstract

This research describes the initial study to develop e-modules based on student perceptions. This type of research is descriptive which was conducted in seven high schools in Padang based on school level with 667 students as respondents. Data were obtained using a questionnaire of student needs for teaching materials consisting of four indicators, namely student characteristics, implementation of physics learning, use of teaching materials in physics learning, and student needs for teaching materials. The results showed that as many as 67% of students experienced difficulties in physics subjects, supported by 53% of teachers who provided feedback at the end of each physics lesson and 45% of teaching materials used were less varied, in other words 80% of students needed other learning resources containing text, images and learning videos that were studied independently. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for the development of e-modules and efforts to improve the quality of physics learning in high school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the topics that become students' misconceptions in kinematics, the causes that can trigger misconceptions, and the remediation used to overcome these misconceptions. The method used in this research was the systematic review method. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the biggest misconception among students was in straight motion. Several causes trigger the emergence of misconceptions in kinematics, where the causes that often arise come from the students themselves, namely, students' preconceptions or initial conceptions, students' abilities, students' cognitive development stages, wrong intuitions, and students' reasoning.  The remediation that was often used to remediate misconceptions was the use of learning models, for instance, generative models.

Abstract

This motivation research is the low learning outcomes of physics students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. The process of learning es the teacher does not activate students in finding solutions to problems in elasticity and static fluid material and the materials for teaching used that do not support the model of learning chosen by the teacher. The research type conducted was a quasi experiment using the Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. Purposive Sampling was used as a technique. Around 37 and 34 students involved in this study as experiment and class for control respectively. Data obtained from a test with multiple choice questions. Based on data analysis, the average physics outcomes of learning from students in the knowledge aspect in the in class for experimental is 82 which higher than the class for control which is 76. Hypothesis testing of the posttest conducted tc  tt where 1.831  1.666 H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, the conclusion is the research results that the use of physics material for teaching based on the creative problem-solving model with concept maps has a effect in significant on the outcomes of learning from students in class XI MIPA SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang on the knowledge aspect with a real level of 0.05.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding is one of the physics learning objectives that can support students' thinking skills. Understanding of concepts in physics learning is very important for students, so that learning outcomes can be achieved maximally. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding of students' concepts on the topic of Newton's law of motion. This research is a descriptive research with quantitative approach. The research was at SMAN 4 Padang, SMAN 6 Padang, and SMAN 12 Padang West Sumatera. The total sample was 218 students. The five-tier multiple choice questions was used as a research instruments. Before the questions were used, the questions were tested first in different schools with the aim of knowing the validity, reliability, difficulty level, and distinguishing power of the items. After testing, 14 questions were obtained that could be used in this study. The results showed that 13.37% of students scienctific conception, 9.53% of almost scientific conception, 42.01% of students lack of confidence, 30.14% of students have misconceptions, 0.98% of students have no conception, and 3.96% of students have undefined. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students' conceptual understanding of Newton's law of motion material is still low.

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive multimedia based on problem solving using articulate storyline on fluid material in class XI Phase F. The research wants to test the validity and practicality of interactive multimedia using articulate storyline. The research method used R&D with Plomp’s model. Plomp's model consist of three phases, there are preliminary phase, prototyping phase, assesment phase. The subjects of this research were the physics lecturer of physics department, physics teacher and students in class XII IPA 9 MAN 2 Padang. The instruments used to collect data consisted of interview sheets with teacher, observation sheets, self-evalution questionnaire, expert review, one to one and small group questionnaire sheets. The data obtained were analyzed using validity index proposed by Aiken and practicality data using category interval. The result of this study show that the development of interactive multimedia using Articulate Storyline was valid with score 0.91, practical by students with score 95.25% and practical by teachers with score 95.83. Conclusion of this study explains that the interactive multimedia based on problem solving using articulate storyline is valid and practical toward learning process.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is one of the important skills that need to be improved to face the 21st century. In learning physics, appropriate teaching materials are needed and can improve students' critical thinking skills so that students can increase their learning independence. The purpose of this research is to develop student worksheets integrated with the Predict Observe Explain (POE) learning model to facilitate student's critical thinking skills. The type of research used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall model modified into six stages, namely potential and problems, data collection, product design, product validation, product revision, and product trial. The research instruments used were expert validation sheets, teacher practicality sheets, and student practicality sheets. The data analysis technique used was descriptive statistics. The results of this study are the average value of the validity of the student worksheet product is 0.82 which is categorized as valid, and the average value of practicality according to the teacher is 98% and the average value of practicality according to students is 90% with a very practical category. therefore, the use of student worksheets integrated with the POE model is valid and practical in learning physics.

Abstract

Low physics learning outcomes are still a problem in physics learning. Teachers need to think about what strategies could improve student learning outcomes. One of the learning models that could be used is the problem-based learning model. This study aims to describe the differences in learning outcomes of students in the application of problem-based learning models compared to the scientific approach at SMA Negeri 3 Padang. The type of research conducted was a quasi-experiment using the Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. The research instrument was a learning outcome test in the form of multiple-choice questions. The data analysis technique used is the Lilliefors test, F-test, and t-test with a significance of 0.05. Based on data analysis, it is obtained that the average physics learning outcomes of student in the knowledge aspect of the experimental class is 82, which is better than the control class, 71. Hypothesis testing showed that tcount> ttable is 3.589> 1.667, which means H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.  It can be concluded that the implementation of the problem-based learning model has a significant effect on the physics learning outcomes of students in class X Phase E SMA Negeri 3 Padang.
