Abstract

This study examines the concept of relationality within the Penti culture embraced by the Manggarai people, with special reference to Martin Buber's philosophy of relational dialogue. The primary focus of this study centers on the rituals woven into the fabric of the Penti celebration. The Penti celebration signifies the Manggarai people's profound appreciation for their fellow humans, nature, and the Creator. Within Manggarai belief systems, the preservation of Penti culture is regarded as an obligation, given its repository of invaluable life wisdom values such as brotherhood, cooperation, and reconciliation. Conducted as a literature study, this research employs Martin Buber's philosophy of relational dialogue as an analytical framework to illuminate the concept of relationality embedded in Penti celebration. The findings of this study underscore that Penti serves not only as a harvest thanksgiving celebration but also as a way of life, fostering connections with fellow humans, nature, and the Creator. The Penti celebration also unveils the identity of the Manggarai people as a community that upholds the principles of solidarity among fellow humans, reverence for nature, and respect for the Creator. In general, this research on the Penti celebration enriches the growing studies of local wisdom in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research explores the role of theology in relation to socio-political challenges in Indonesia, particularly in light of the Omnibus Law Bill. The study draws on the theology of Kenosis as taught by St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, applying it to the contemporary Indonesian context. The Omnibus Law, favoring capital holders over workers, has prompted a call for the Indonesian Church to intervene. This study employs qualitative approach, relying on a literature review for data collection. The study finds parallels between the current situation in Indonesia and 17th-century France under Louis XIV, where Montfort developed the Theology of Kenosis in response to the king’s centralization of power and heavy taxation. The Theology of Kenosis, emphasizing leaders’ duty to serve their people, is found to be highly relevant to Indonesia today. The study concludes that this theological model can guide leaders in creating public policies that prioritize people’s welfare over corporate interests. This aligns with the principle of divine solidarity with humanity, particularly the poor. The application of Kenosis theology to the Omnibus Law could result in greater consideration for worker welfare, environmental sustainability, and the overall well-being of the Indonesian people.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the historical-cultural basis of Pancasila and to analyze the urgency of studying Pancasila as the identity of the Indonesian nation. This study used the literature study method with phenomenological analysis. The historical-cultural foundation of Pancasila, namely Pancasila, originated from the thoughts and habits of the Indonesian people, which had lasted since the ethnic era, the kingdom era, the colonial era, and the era of the national movement until now. Ethnic groups had a pattern of life that was very compact, friendly, and harmonious and lived with a family spirit. The Majapahit Kingdom and the Sriwijaya Kingdom were the pioneers in the formation of the unity of Indonesia. The Dutch East Indies colonial era raised national and state awareness because of shared destiny and struggle. The founder of the state ultimately formulated the values of the character of the Indonesian nation known as Pancasila as the identity of the Indonesian nation. The urgency of studying Pancasila as the identity of the Indonesian nation was the increasing prevalence of acts of terrorism and radicalism that threaten the integrity of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Acts of terrorism and radicalism could be minimized if the Indonesian people realized that Pancasila is essentially a wisdom that has been possessed for thousands of years.

Abstract

The focus of the research lies on exploring the meaning of human existence amidst the nihilism of life through metaphysical-philosophical reflection according to Martin Heidegger's thought. For Heidegger, humans are being-with-other; human cannot be separated from other humans in the world. Heidegger proposes how being-with-other always has a nature based on sorge or care for others in everydayness. On the other hand, humans are influenced by nihilism or live in the meaninglessness that the world offers today. Humans are increasingly showing a life of complete disregard for the world and other humans which then creates selfishness in themselves. Therefore, exploring the meaning of human existence according to Heidegger's thought will find an altruistic attitude that humans can internalize and also bring meaningful life in the midst of nihilism. The method used in the research is qualitative method through literature study. This research found that Heidegger's concept of sorge or care interprets human life as being-with-others. The contribution of this research is to awaken human altruism as being-with-other and create a meaningful life through caring for others.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the reality of the decadence of religious life in this day and age. On the one being many people begin to lose awareness of the importance of religion in building human life. However, on the other side, religious people are increasingly showing a discrepancy between the essential purpose of religious existence and their social behavior. Based on this reality, this article aims to elaborate some philosophical reflections on religious life today based on the symbols in the wuwung mbaru gendang of the Manggarai people. As an important part of the traditional house of the Manggarai people, the wuwung mbaru gendang has a meaning that is relevant to the religious issues of today. Its meaning will be elaborated based on Paul Ricoeur's theory of Symbol Interpretation. The direction of this article is the discovery of meanings in the wuwung mbaru gendang to be used as introspective material for researchers in reading the religious context of their era. The method used is literature study and direct observation of the object studied. The findings are first, the three symbols on the wuwung mbaru gendang reveal human identity as a noble creature. That nobleness is what spurs humans to make the highest respect for humans regardless of their religious background. Secondly, the quality of one's relationship with others can always be attributed to how one builds his or her spiritual-religious aspect. Vertical relations with the Ultimate Reality always get their continuity in good horizontal relations with others.

Abstract

Belief is the result of a deep and complex relationship that cannot be summed up in simple words because it involves a spiritual journey. One example is faith, a personal relationship between humans and God. In the context of the Old Testament, the prophets, including Moses, were sent by God to guide His people. Despite numerous studies on Moses, research on his belief in God seems to have not fully delved into Moses' spiritual journey. Therefore, this study aims to explore the attitudes of the prophets' belief in God and the influence of Moses' belief on his fulfillment of duties. The research method employs literature review with a qualitative approach. The findings indicate that the presence of prophets in the Old Testament confirms God's involvement in human life and serves as an example for humans to strengthen their spiritual relationship with God. Moses, despite all his struggles, remained steadfast in his belief in God, even though he was not permitted to enter the promised land. This reflects a deep-seated faithfulness and loyalty, even in the face of trials and failures.

Abstract

The author in this paper tries to examine the representation of truth (verum) in the world of politics in Indonesia as an effort to create social justice, by referring to the thoughts of Immanuel Kant. Kant argued that truth is an essential moral foundation in the formation of a just and civilized society. In the midst of Indonesia's political dynamics, this study identifies various aspects of truth representation in the context of public policy, governance, and citizen participation. An in-depth analysis of Kant's concept of truth reveals that efforts to create social justice in Indonesia depend on a shared understanding of moral values and ethical obligations. Along with that, the research highlights the challenges and obstacles that arise in everyday political practice, including corruption, inequality, and social injustice. The results show the need for reforms in political practice and governance to realize Kant's vision of a just society. This involves changes in political mindsets, the eradication of corruption, and increased active participation of citizens in policy-making. This research makes an important contribution in designing concrete steps to achieve social justice in Indonesia by integrating Kant's thoughts on truth and moral obligation into everyday political practice.
