Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the community profile and challenges faced by Tanah Merah Baru Village in Teluk Bintuni, West Papua, following diesel fuel spill disasters associated with transportation activities near an LNG exploration company operation. The study employs a comprehensive research methodology, combining quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and focus group discussions with community representatives and a company's oil spill response team. Data was collected and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and factor analysis through IBM SPSS Statistics Version 27 software. The findings reveal that the community profile is influenced by social, economic, and environmental factors. Additionally, there is a low level of awareness and community participation in handling diesel fuel spills and implementing the Oil Spill Contingency Plan (OSCP). Notably, variations exist in the perceptions and attitudes towards diesel fuel spills among community members who have previous exposure to the company’s operational environment. To enhance the community's profile and resilience, targeted efforts are required to provide information and training, thereby improving preparedness and response capabilities in handling diesel fuel spills effectively in Tanah Merah Baru Village, Teluk Bintuni, West Papua.

Abstract

The oil and gas industry has a high risk of losses due to fire. There have been several fire incidents in the oil industry involving fires in crude oil tanks. The objective of this research is to assess the level of fire risk in Crude Oil Tank T32 at Company. The research method used is to analyze the frequency of fire occurrences using event tree analysis and modeling the consequences of fires using ALOHA software. After conducting frequency analysis and consequence modeling, individual risk and social risk are calculated. Results: Based on the results of consequence modeling, the furthest distance for heat radiation with a 100% risk of death is 84 meters. The largest risk calculation result is in the leaky tank scenario with a hole size of 100 mm with an individual risk value of 1,84 x 10-8 and a social risk value of 3,13 x 10-7. The results of the T32 tank fire risk assessment at Company A's oil collection tank facility show that individual and social risks are still within the acceptable risk category according to the UK HSE Risk Acceptance Criteria. Even though the risk of a fire incident is still within acceptable limits, risk control efforts still need to be carried out so that the risk remains within acceptable tolerance limits

Abstract

PT X Unit Citeureup is the largest cement manufacturing industrial plant in the world. The industrial processes in PT X Unit Citeureup involve a variety of processes, materials, and hazardous works. Thus, the work process in it causes a lot of occupational safety and health risks. In addition, at this time PT X Unit Citeureup is also facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic just like other industries. This situation can have a negative impact on both employees and management of PT X Unit Citeureup. Based on this situation, the establishment of safety in the workplace is something that must be pursued and maximized. This study attempts to evaluate the factors that shape workplace safety with COVID-19 prevention measures and the dimensions of occupational health and safety (OHS) vulnerability. These dimensions can be used as the basis for the study of elements of organizational psychology and safety climate that are able to predict safety in the workplace. This research was conducted through a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. Data collection is done online via google form to find out how workers perceive related to the variables studied. Data collection was carried out in May with a large sample of 126 respondents from 19 divisions. The next data were analyzed by PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling). The results of this study indicate that OHS vulnerability factors such as OHS awareness and OHS participation as well as COVID-19 prevention measures are significantly related to safety in the workplace. These results indicate that interventions to increase OHS awareness, OHS participation, and COVID-19 prevention measures in the workplace can improve workplace safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Nurse migration among G20 countries increased as consequence of shortage of nurses in developed country members. Concrete strategies needed to address the issues. This study aimed to propose policy recommendation to the G20 Forum to enhance nurse migration system and long-term solution for shortages of nurses. A qualitative study was conducted to collect ideas for policy recommendation through experts sharing and focus group discussion. 190 participants involved. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to analyze the data. A policy recommendation was formulated into four themes and 11 categories. The themes included (a) harmonization for equal nursing competency qualifications, (b) reinforcement of brain drain anticipation and brain gain support, (c) improvement of regulatory and data system for nurse migration, and (d) collaboration enhancement with stakeholders for an enabling environment. The formulated policy recommendation may be used as a reference for current G20 leaders to create more concrete strategies for enhancing nurse migration system and long-term solution of shortages of nurses, as part of commitment on the health agenda. Considering the finding of this study highlighted the role of NNAs and NSAs for collaboration enhancement with stakeholders for enabling environment, we suggest a further study to identify more detail strategies to enhance NNAs and NSAs’ role in enhancing registration, placement, and monitoring processes.

Abstract

Introduction: The increasing frequency and impact of disasters requires nurses to be adequately prepared and willing to respond. Previous studies have suggested that knowledge and skills alone are insufficient predictors of willingness to respond. This study aimed to explore factors influencing nurses’ willingness to respond to disasters beyond knowledge and skills and to identify strategies to enhance this willingness through disaster training. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study design was used. Data were collected from May to July 2020 through semi-structured interviews (n = 9) and focus group discussions (n = 10) involving nurses with earthquake response experiences in Indonesia. The participants were recruited using purposive and snowball sampling. Data were analyzed manually following Doyle’s qualitative descriptive approach to generate codes, categories, and themes. Results: Two major themes were identified: (1) dilemma in family matters, consisting of professional commitment, family safety, and family support; and (2) readiness to respond, including unprepared feelings and the role of disaster training. Family well-being emerged as a prerequisite for deployment, while realistic and simulation-based disaster training was perceived as essential for strengthening psychological readiness. Conclusions: Nurses’ willingness to respond to disasters is influenced not only by their knowledge and skills, but also by family related considerations and psychological preparedness. Disaster training programs should integrate family preparedness components and realistic simulation-based learning to enhance nurses’ readiness and willingness to respond effectively.

Abstract

Approximately two million people die annually from occupational diseases and workplace accidents. Despite extensive preventive measures, accident and fatality rates remain high, with recurring incidents and persistent root causes. These patterns highlight the urgent need for effective programs and educational models to enhance workers’ safety awareness, a critical factor in preventing occupational accidents. This study conducted a scoping review to map existing evidence, conceptual frameworks, and research gaps concerning safety awareness programs and educational interventions for workers. Following the PRISMA-ScR framework, three databases: Medline (PubMed), APA PsycArticles® (ProQuest), and Scopus, were systematically searched for English-language studies published in the past five years. Ten studies met the inclusion criteria. Although research in this area remains limited, evidence suggests that well-designed programs and educational approaches, particularly those integrating technology-based learning and participatory methods, can effectively improve workers’ safety awareness. Further empirical studies are needed to develop comprehensive, evidence-based educational models applicable across diverse occupational settings.
