Abstract

Indonesia has responded to the timber certification obligation imposed by importing countries, particularly the European Union, by implementing the Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu-SVLK). This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the SVLK policy on the state of the Indonesian forestry industry and the performance of Indonesian wood goods, mostly plywood, in the international market. Secondary data on Indonesian wood product exports, classified under HS Code 4412, were utilized in this investigation. The analysis revealed that comparative advantage (RCA) analysis was used to assess the competitiveness of Indonesian wood products, while panel data analysis was utilized to assess the impact of the SVLK policy on Indonesian wood export performance. The implementation of SVLK enhanced the value of Indonesian plywood exports; however, the increase was still relatively small compared to other major exporting countries. According to the estimation results, the use of SVLK had a positive impact on the Indonesian plywood trade in the international market. However, Indonesia's ability to increase its market share was still critical so that the Indonesian plywood industry could maximize the potential for expansion in demand for plywood.

Abstract

The shallot commodity has a strategic role in national food security, but its production still experiences fluctuations, especially in Karo Regency. The primary challenge faced by farmers is the low level of productivity and efficiency in their production. This study aims to analyze the efficiency model of shallot farms in Karo Regency and identify the factors influencing it, including the complex interaction between external factors (climate change), farmers' adaptive responses, and existing socioeconomic structures. The methods employed are a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, including surveys and in-depth interviews. Data analysis will use the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and Tobit regression models. The expected results can provide a comprehensive understanding of the sustainability of shallot farming and offer integrated policy recommendations for local governments, extension workers, and farmers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of training on employee performance at Perumda Tirtanadi, a regional-owned company engaged in public water services in North Sumatra. The research applies a quantitative associative approach to examine the influence of four key dimensions of training training needs assessment, training design, training delivery style, and training evaluation on employee performance. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to employees across several divisions of Perumda Tirtanadi and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results show that training has a significant positive effect on employee performance, both partially and simultaneously. Each dimension of training contributes differently, with training design and training evaluation showing the strongest influence. These findings indicate that a systematic and well-evaluated training program can enhance employees’ competence, productivity, and service quality. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous human resource development and provides practical recommendations for improving the effectiveness of training programs within public sector organizations.

Abstract

The government, through Peraturan Presiden RI Nomor 44 Tahun 2020, mandates Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification for smallholder farmers within five years of its enactment. However, by December 2022, only 32 farmer groups had achieved ISPO certification. The Gunung Ambat Farmers Group, which has already received funds from the PSR program, is one of the independent farmer groups with the potential to acquire ISPO accreditation. Yet, members' understanding of this certification remains low due to a lack of socialization or training from the government or other entities. This initiative aims to promote the regulation and provide training on the concepts and requirements for ISPO certification. Activities include administering questionnaires to assess knowledge, conducting training sessions, engaging in puzzle games, and practicing the documentation of farming activities. The results indicate significant improvements in farmers' understanding before and after the training. Initially, farmers had no knowledge of ISPO certification; however, post-training, over 70 percent of participants understood the certification, with an average of 35 percent comprehending its principles and criteria. Participants are also encouraged to document their farming progress, enhancing their skills in farming business documentation and administrative tasks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the export competitiveness of Indonesian areca nut to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The objective of the research is to evaluate the comparative advantage of Indonesian areca nut exports compared to other exporting countries such as India, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Thailand from 2013 to 2023 using the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method. The study uses secondary data collected from Trademap and UN Comtrade, focusing on the value and volume of areca nut exports. The results indicate that Indonesia has a relatively strong export competitiveness, as shown by RCA values consistently above 1 in several years. However, Indonesia faces competition from Myanmar and Thailand, which also demonstrate significant comparative advantages. The findings suggest that the Indonesian government should focus on improving export policies, ensuring product quality, and expanding market access to sustain and improve the competitiveness of Indonesian areca nut in the UAE market.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate an Arduino-based digital pH meter and thermometer prototype equipped with automatic temperature compensation (ATC) and a 3D-printed casing for practical household and micro-industrial applications. The device was tested on fifteen consumer products from four categories—food, beverages, hygiene, and cosmetics—at three temperature levels (30°C, 35°C, and 40°C). Measured parameters included pH, millivolt (mV) outputs, stabilization time, and reading stability. The results showed that pH values decreased with increasing temperature, consistent with H⁺ ion dissociation principles. For example, vinegar (pH 2.80–2.68) and soda (pH 3.45–3.36) showed the most significant decreases, while basic products such as detergent (pH 10.20–10.08) and liquid soap (pH 9.10–9.00) exhibited stable negative mV readings. The average stabilization time ranged from 6 to 12 seconds, with all samples showing stable readings (±0.01 pH variation). Calibration results indicated that three-point calibration (pH 4, 7, 10) produced the highest accuracy (±0.04 pH; R² = 0.993). The 3D-printed PLA casing provided durable protection, ergonomic handling, and fast reprintability. Overall, the prototype demonstrated reliable, accurate, and stable performance, proving that low-cost hardware and software integration can yield an efficient and accessible pH and temperature measuring tool.

Abstract

Rabbit farming is presently being developed as an alternative source of animal protein in Indonesia. Some of these challenges include the appropriate keeping of records related to production processes and the marketing of products. In response to the challenges encountered by rabbit farming group, a proposed solution entails offering training on the use of digital applications for financial bookkeeping and marketing purposes. This community service initiative is geared towards facilitating the implementation of an Android application aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of rabbit farming businesses. The approach used in this community service is Participatory Rural Appraisal. The results of the Community Service activities indicated that the farmers were proficient in using the Adorabbit application and followed the instructions effectively. Based on this observation, the adorabbit application was inferred to provide significant assistance to rabbit farmers in Medan City, specifically in the areas of recording rabbit production and managing finances, thereby, enabling the enhancement and expansion of their livestock businesses.
