Abstract

Physical activity in the elderly will improve cognitive function. Biomolecular changes to see an increase in elderly cognitive function are characterized by an increase in the expression of plasma protein Brain Derived Nerve Factor (BDNF). Efforts to improve cognitive function can be done in Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I . In this study the aim was to analyze the influence of Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I three times a week for 6 weeks to Plasma Protein Expression of BDNF in Elderly. This study used a pre-experiment with the design of one group pre and post test for 27 samples of healthy elderly aged > 60 years and routinely conduct Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I 3 times a week for 6 weeks. To determine BDNF levels taken from elderly plasma blood then measured using the Enzime Link Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. To analyze the influence of Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I to plasma protein expression of BDNF, a paired t-test was used so that the mean differences between before and after gymnastics were known. There were differences in the mean BDNF plasma protein expression before and after Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I (2174,52 ± 700,79 VS 1981 ± 915,17 pg/ mL, p = 0,40 ; p > 0,05) with the mean difference was 192,69 which means Indonesian Cardio Gymnastic Serie-I 3 times a week for 6 weeks had no influence to plasma protein expression of BDNF because the level has decreased by 91.14% after exercising

Abstract

The number of work accidents in Indonesia and in the world is quite high, particularly in the mining sector. One of the factors that cause occupational accidents is poor sleep quality. Therefore good quality sleep is needed to reduce the risk of accidents. This study aims to describe the sleep quality of mining workers based on age, occupational category, and Body Mass Index (BMI). The research uses a descriptive design with a cross-sectional method. Data was collected from PT Borneo Indobara in 2020, as many as 120 workers. PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) is used as an instrument. Then, sleep quality was reported in age, BMI, and occupational categories. The result shows that workers at PT Borneo Indobara are dominated by the age range of 21-40 years old (80%), working as operators (70.83%), and having normal BMI (56.67%). Most of the poor sleep quality is experienced by the worker with age range 18-20 years old (90.91%), working as a leader/officer (100%), and obesity as a BMI category (88.89%). Most of PT. Borneo Indobara employees have poor sleep quality based on the PSQI score, so that the management of PT. Borneo Indobara can use this research as employee evaluation data and can prepare treatment for the employees.

Abstract

Many adolescents have insufficient physical activity. Regular physical activity from young age can improve health and fitness. Getting regular exercise and eating healthy diet should be encouraged among kids and teenagers to prevent various diseases in adulthood and old age, such as osteoporosis and fractures. When exercising, a prescription is needed that is tailored to each individual abilities. The intensity of exercise will be different for each individual in accordance with their age, physiological function, genetics, economic status, and previous comorbid diseases. There is no standardised exercise prescription proven to increase bone mineral density in adolescents. Based on the above description, a study was conducted on the provision of different intensity exercise and its effect on bone morphology and density. In this study, male Wistar rats, aged 15–16 weeks (body weight ± 250-350 grams; n = 20), were split into 4 groups, namely control group, low intensity exercise group, moderate intensity exercise group, and high intensity exercise group. All groups were receiving intervention for 8 weeks. Then, the rats were sacrificed and the femoral bones were isolated. Femur weight and femur length was checked. Bone density was examined using X-Ray and calculated by statistical tests. Research was conducted in the Central Laboratory, Universitas Padjadjaran. There were significant differences of femur weight between high intensity exercise group and control and low intensity exercise groups (p 0.05). Moderate and high intensity exercises significantly increased femur length as opposed to control and low intensity exercise groups (p 0.05). Bone density was higher in moderate and high intensity exercise groups (p 0.05). Moderate to high intensity exercise can increase bone health, seen from significances of bone morphology analysis and a higher density compared to low intensity exercise.
