Abstract

The coastal area of Lembar district has 80 hectares mangrove land on Lembar and Lembar Selatan village. But as time goes by, mangrove lands gradually eroded by land conversion. The purpose of this study is to measure the critical of mangrove land in Lembar District. The analysis uses GIS-based data with Landsat 8 OLI sattelite imagery and 3 determinants variables of the critical mangrove land, which are the type of land use, canopy density and soil resistance. Supervised classification method is used to analyze the landuse types, canopy density is generated from NDVI value, and the analysis of soil resistance obtained from soil type maps classification which then all of them is carried out to raster based weighted overlay process by Arc GIS. The result showed that mangrove land was in serious condition where 51% (41 hectares) of mangrove vegetation were in a state of severe damaged condition, 46% (39 hectares) were in a damaged condition and only 3% (2 hectares) were in good condition, so it was needed appropriate action from policy makers to deal with this problem in order to restore the sustainability of mangrove land in Lembar district.

Abstract

Climate Change and global warming have brought some policy to reduce the impacts by adaptation and mitigation strategies. One adaptation strategy is to increase land use size in agriculture area base on community participation. On the other hand, sustainable development needs cooperation mainly on common investment. The aim of the study is to identify the land utilization process, role model and level of participation on customary land. We use observation and deep interview method to analyze this study. The result shows that the customary land utilization process has realized through public deliberation with local Fig.s. The agriculture programs operated with Wanatani concept or agro-forestry by housewives where multi-level strategy is mutually beneficial. Around 30 housewives have been participating in producing agriculture products, i.e., coffee, milk candy, palm sugar, and ginger powder. The level of participation especially for female farmers at RW 01, which shows a percentage of 16.6%. Generally, community participation has encouraged the gotong-royong model while has to contribute in their time, tools and materials to develop the communal shed. In conclusion, the land tenure system has taken with sharing benefits between local government & farmers. The customary tenure has recognized as one of the tenure systems in Indonesia, especially on Adat land management.

Abstract

The urban waste management is still crucial issues in most regions in Indonesia. Urban waste is considered as a cultural issue because of its impact on various life factors , especially in big cities such as Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Bandung, Palembang and Medan. Currently, the average productivity of the urban waste is 0.5 kg / capita / day. If this is multiplied by number of people in some cities in Java and Bali, the total waste will reach about 100,000 tons / day. This number will still increase by increasing population growth. Therefore, the urban waste management is very important for cities in Indonesia, alhough currently not many cities applied the urban waste management system. Urban waste management in Indonesia is not merely caused by formal sector, but it is also supported by informal sector in reducing daily production waste up to 30%. The informal sector management is mainly conducted by sorting the waste to recycleable or not. The recycleable waste is then sold back to the mills to be converted to other valuable products. This reserach was aimed to evaluate the partnership between formal and informal sector in reduction of waste production in Semarang city through urban waste management system. The research about informal sector was conducted by communal interaction and qualitative analysis focusing at Semarang City especially at Old Town area. The research has provided substantive knowledge of informal sector partnerships and formal sector in urban waste management with case inorganic waste management in the city of Semarang through 3R (recycle, reuse and reduce) knwoledge management. Basic knowledge of the structure / surface is characterized by empirical knowledge which was easily caught by the direct perspective of human. Middle knowledge could be adjusted to different loci

Abstract

This study aims to map the level of the degraded land of mangrove forest area in TUGU Sub-district, Semarang, by comparing the results from the Landsat 7 ETM + images of 2009 and ALOS AVNIR-2 in 2009. To determine the degradation of mangrove forest area, we used geographic information systems-remote sensing as a tool of analysis based on three criteria; land use type, canopy density, and soil resilience from abrasion. The two satellite image data were used for supervised image classification using ER Mapper software to get the criteria of type of land use and density of the canopy. For soil resilience from abrasion, we utilized soil types reclassification techniques using ArcGIS software. Based on Landsat imagery, the results show that 92.22 % of the mangrove forest area is in severely damaged condition, and 7.78% is in the category of moderate damage. Meanwhile, based on the results of ALOS image, 77.73 % of the mangrove areas is in severely damaged condition, and 22.27 % is in the category of moderate damage. It can be concluded that ALOS and Landsat imageries are good for the determination of degraded mangrove land, especially in identifying its area and distribution in the mangrove forest. However, the degraded mangrove map generated by Landsat is less detailed than ALOS in classifying and representing the conditions of the degraded mangrove area in Tugu sub-district.
