Abstract

The concepts of religious moderation and Islam Nusantara serve as fundamental pillars in the discourse of Indonesian Islam, both promoting values of tolerance, peace, and openness. Although frequently associated, their interplay has rarely been examined through a dialectical lens that highlights both their tensions and convergences. This study fills this gap by critically analyzing the discursive intersections and ideological frictions between these two concepts. Using a qualitative descriptive method based on extensive literature review, the article explores normative perspectives alongside critical debates within public and academic spheres. Findings reveal significant common ground in the contextualized Islamic praxis embodied by Islam Nusantara, yet misunderstandings persist due to low ideological literacy and politicization of religious narratives. The study positions Islam Nusantara as a localized manifestation of religious moderation capable of bridging religious and national identities. It contributes theoretically by broadening understanding of moderate Islam rooted in local culture and offers practical implications for strengthening inclusive, context-aware Islamic narratives that can counter ideological polarization and foster social cohesion in Indonesia.

Abstract

Land conflict in the coal mining area of PT. Bara Energi Lestari in Gampong Alue Buloh, Seunagan District, Nagan Raya Regency, shows the complexity that involves various interests of the community and companies. This research aims to identify effective conflict resolution strategies through a qualitative approach with case studies. Data was obtained from literature studies and in-depth interviews with citizens, company representatives, and government officials. Ralf Dahrendorf's conflict theory is used to analyze the dynamics of power relations between the actors involved. The results of the study show that conflicts are resolved through mediation facilitated by the police, involving the community and the company. An agreement was reached on the priority of recruiting workers from local residents and transparency in the use of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. This strategy emphasizes the importance of active community participation, information disclosure, and long-term commitment from all parties. A dialogical and collaborative approach has been shown to be more effective in reducing tensions, building trust, and creating sustainable solutions. These findings recommend the need to strengthen local mediation mechanisms in resolving agrarian conflicts in industrial areas, especially those related to mining.

Abstract

Gender inequality in the work environment is still a problem faced by various countries. This research aims to describe home industry as a means of empowering women to achieve gender equality and women's economic welfare. This research also aims to find common ground between local culture and women's empowerment and identify forms of government support. The benefit of this research is to voice gender equality in accessing economic resources and realizing economic prosperity for women. This research also contributes academically to enriching references for women's empowerment to achieve gender and economic equality. This study is supported by descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews. The results of this research show that the home industry is very much in line with efforts to empower women to increase access to economic resources and minimize gender inequality. The female workers involved in home industry practices have contributed to fulfilling the family's living needs. Women's empowerment through the AG cake production house is supported by local culture which can show tolerance between religious communities. Even though the owner of the AG cake is a Christian, the production process uses methods and ingredients that do not conflict with the Islamic values of Sabang residents. Granting permits to produce AG cakes is a form of government support that provides legal protection for women's empowerment. This research needs to be continued with research that is able to integrate home industry, women's empowerment, and ecotourism to become a holistic study.

Abstract

Coastal communities are frequently associated with various limitations, making them synonymous with poverty despite having significant social capital to effect change through their potential. As a coastal community, the GosongTelaga Selatan community has tried to develop its potential by developing mangrove tourism through BUMK (village-owned enterprises). This article aims to describe the community's efforts and the factors that influence the community's economy through BUMK Bina Lestari. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, with data obtained through observation and interviews. This study showed that the community and government's efforts to boost the community's economy through BUMK had no significant impact. The reason is that the choice of BUMK policies, which focus on establishing ecotourism, has not been well planned. The supporting factors for the choice of BUMK policies in developing ecotourism are the availability of abundant mangrove forests, panoramic beauty, and an open community culture accepting various people visiting tourist sites. At the same time, the factors inhibiting the success of these efforts are the lack of facilities and infrastructure, the lack of local production, and the lack of publications and promotions.

Abstract

In the context of local tourism development in Tapulaga Village, the achievement and potential in the tourism sector, as well as the importance of sustainability, are the main focus. The active participation of local communities is the key to success in developing sustainable tourism that preserves the environment and the welfare of children, while maintaining the cultural and natural values of the village. International cooperation is important in this effort, although it also brings challenges. The necessary follow-up includes the development of fishermen's activity-based tourism, training in tourism crafts and marketing, and environmental policy supervision by the village government. Active community participation in nature conservation and child nutrition monitoring is also emphasized. All these efforts must be sustainable and require cooperation between relevant parties, both from the village government and the community. The development of local tourism is a great opportunity for the village, focusing on ecological sustainability, economic empowerment, community welfare, and good natural resource management for a better future.

Abstract

Gampong-Owned Enterprises (BUMG) are expected to become economic institutions that lead to gampong independence through community empowerment. However, the condition of the development of BUMG is far from the government's expectations. This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in the management of BUMG Maju Jaya. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The results of this study illustrate that the success of BUMG Maju Jaya is not only determined by financial capital, but also by the strength of social capital that is integrated in three main dimensions, namely bonding social capital (internal solidarity), bridging social capital (networks between groups), and linking social capital (access to external resources). Social capital plays a key catalyst that drives active community participation, builds trust in BUMG managers, and strengthens internal and external social networks. Social capital has transformed BUMG from a mere business entity to a social-based economic institution that empowers the community. The results of this research are expected to be a reference for other BUMG managers in reviving gampong economic institutions.

Abstract

The Aceh conflict, one of the longest separatist struggles in Indonesia, lasted for nearly three decades and caused severe social, political, and economic consequences. The turning point occurred after the 2004 tsunami, which opened the door for peace negotiations between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). This study aims to analyze the political transformation of GAM following the signing of the 2005 Helsinki Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focusing on the dynamics of demobilization, reintegration, and democratization in Aceh. Using a historical approach and library research, data were collected from primary sources such as official documents and archival records, as well as secondary sources including books, journals, and reports. The findings show that the MoU Helsinki not only ended armed conflict but also initiated significant political transformation by allowing the establishment of local political parties and expanding Aceh’s autonomy. However, challenges persist in reintegration programs, governance of special autonomy funds, and center local relations. While GAM successfully transitioned from armed resistance to formal politics, issues of social justice, economic inequality, and elite dominance continue to hinder sustainable peace. This study highlights that Aceh’s experience offers important lessons for conflict transformation and peacebuilding in post-conflict societies.

Abstract

The Integrated DigiWisata Program aims to encourage institutional strengthening and digital transformation of Peunaga Pasi Village in West Aceh Regency as a coastal tourism village based on education, culture, and the environment. This village has a unique geographic character with a combination of beaches, swamps, and a strong tsunami history, as well as a number of local attractions such as a mini waterboom, traditional salt tourism, and educational rides. However, this potential has not been managed in an integrated and professional manner. The main problems faced include the weak institutional structure of the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMG) and Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), the absence of a digital management and financial system, low digital promotion capacity, the lack of integration of tourist attractions into one visit package, and the lack of a waste management system in the tourist area. This has led to low tourist visits and a suboptimal contribution to the local creative economy. Through a collaborative and research-based approach, this empowerment program carries out a series of strategic interventions, ranging from the preparation of institutional documents and BUMG Standard Operating Procedures, training in digital financial recording systems, activating tourism village websites and social media, to building educational showrooms and procuring waste shredders. All activities are designed to strengthen the community's capacity to manage local potential sustainably and independently. This program supports the achievement of the SDGs, the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of Higher Education, and RIRN's focus on social innovation and strengthening community-based economies. The community empowerment program is designed to run for three years, with the first year being the foundational stage for institutional and technological strengthening, followed by business diversification and digital promotion development, and the third year ending with the independence and model replication phase.

Abstract

This study examines social conflicts arising from the poverty alleviation program through the provision of livable housing assistance for fishermen families in East Simeulue District, Simeulue Regency. The research aims to identify the sources of social conflict among fishermen receiving and not receiving housing assistance and to analyze the mechanisms used to resolve these conflicts. Grounded in Ralf Dahrendorf’s conflict theory, this study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving fishermen, community leaders, and local government representatives. The findings reveal that social conflicts emerged due to feelings of exclusion and unequal treatment experienced by fishermen who did not receive assistance, scarcity of resources, inadequate communication regarding program rules and eligibility criteria, and ineffective leadership characterized by unfair decision-making. Additionally, social jealousy and the presence of provocateurs within the fishing community intensified tensions. Conflict resolution was conducted through deliberative processes emphasizing communication facilitation between conflicting parties, primarily through arbitration and mediation as third-party interventions. Furthermore, local wisdom known as “salah manyamba” gawai mangisi” played a significant role in resolving disputes by involving respected community figures and prioritizing family-based deliberation. In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of transparent governance, effective communication, and the integration of local wisdom in minimizing social conflict and ensuring the equitable implementation of poverty alleviation programs in coastal communities.
