Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the types and functions of comparative language styles in Urang Tanjuang Karang kaba in Dendang Pauah performances. The research method used in this study is a descriptive method with a form of qualitative research. The approach used in this study is a stylistic approach. The source of data in this study is kaba Urang Tanjuang Pauh in Dendang Pauh performance. The data analysis carried out was that researchers identified the comparative language style used in the Urang Tanjung Karang kaba. The results showed that the Urang Tanjuang Karang kaba contains a rich use of diction with the expression style of the old Minangkabau language. Parables are widely used to give a vivid picture of the characters and events in the kaba. The comparative language styles used are parables, hyperbole, litotes, metaphors, and personifications.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring) model on the writing skills of university students. The research objectives were to describe students' writing skills before and after using the REACT model and to investigate the model's effect on their writing performance. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The sample consisted of 40 undergraduate students enrolled in an English writing course. The experimental group (n = 20) received writing instruction using the REACT model, while the control group (n = 20) received traditional writing instruction. Pre-test and post-test writing assessments were used to evaluate students' writing skills. The results showed that the experimental group’s writing skills improved from a mean score of 56.94 (SD = 8.12) in the pre-test to 75.88 (SD = 6.45) in the post-test, indicating a significant improvement from a “Fair” to a “More than sufficient” level. The control group's mean scores were 55.78 (SD = 7.89) and 61.23 (SD = 8.01) in the pre-test and post-test, respectively. A paired t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group (t(19) = 4.39, p .05), suggesting that the REACT model had a positive impact on students' writing skills. These findings highlight the potential of the REACT model as an effective instructional approach for enhancing writing skills in university students.

Abstract

Nowadays, library services are very diverse compared to some of the past. Information Technology gives new meaning to the services provided by libraries. There are several libraries that support and expect library users to be satisfied with the services provided by librarians. The background of this research is to see how the Optimization of Library Services to Increase Reading Interest in Library Users in the Padang Panjang City Library, optimizing this service is carried out by carrying out activities that can attract the attention of the visitors to reading interest. Not only that, librarians must also be able to discuss how to allow visitors to visit the library of the City of Padang Panjang. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive type. Data collection is done by means of observation, interviews, and documentation studies conducted using analytical techniques developed by Miles and Huberman. The results of this study indicate that researchers found several ways to optimize library services to increase interest in reading (1) library management that is more professional, (2) library development with adequate facilities, (3) increase activities to attract reading interest..

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendesain model bahan ajar keterampilan menulis menggunakan model pembelajaran REACT. Penelitian dan pengembangan ini terdapat 10 tahapan dari model Dick & Carey yang dibatasi menjadi 8 tahapan. Data hasil wawancara dianalisis dengan teknik analisis data kualitatif. Nilai angket dan hasil tugas digunakan untuk menentukan data kuantitatif. Uji coba prototipe dan uji coba kelompok kecil menunjukkan model bahan ajar keterampilan menulis sudah praktis. Berdasarkan uji coba kelompok besar terdapat 5 siswa yang tidak tuntas dari 28 siswa, sedangkan angket yang diberikan kepada kelompok besar menunjukan hasil sangat positif. Validitas instrumen dikategorikan sangat tinggi dengan persentase 0,99. thitung ? ttabel (43,659 ? 2,052) berarti terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara model bahan ajar yang dikembangkan dengan hasil belajar.

Abstract

The master of ceremony (MC) is one of the abilities that teachers must have when guiding activities carried out in schools, both formal and informal. However, the problem in the field is that not all teachers are ready if given the task of hosting even though they are used to teaching in class, due to the unpreparedness and inability of these teachers to host events with diverse audiences other than students. This community service activity aims to train teachers to prepare themselves to be flexible and communicative hosts. The method used is divided into preparation, implementation and evaluation focused on the preparation of emcee, namely the ability to compile event rundowns and make cue cards. The result of this activity is an increase in the ability to write a host guide in the form of a cue card containing important information that helps when doing emcee practice. In addition, there is flexibility and calmness of participants in guiding both formal and informal event activities

Abstract

So far, there has been limited research on the exploration of educational values in poetry. This study aims to explore how poetry reflects moral and spiritual values, as well as how it can be used as an effective educational tool. The research employs a qualitative analysis method, focusing on hermeneutics. The primary data source for this study is a collection of poems by Angga Wijaya. The findings reveal that Angga Wijaya's poems invite readers to reflect on life and discover deeper meaning through self-awareness. His works emphasize the importance of letting go of the past, embracing change, and practicing patience in facing life's challenges. The recurring use of moon imagery guides readers on a spiritual journey, while themes of love and respect highlight the values of unity and compassion. The study suggests that Angga Wijaya's poetry can serve as an effective medium for teaching character education.

Abstract

The school newspaper is a mass communication medium published and managed by the school. The main manager is OSIS who are accompanied by Indonesian Language teachers and Information and Communication Technology teachers under the supervision of the school principal. Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of creating pantun and talibun in kaba Urang Piaman at the Dendang Pauah performance and its implications for learning literary appreciation in high schools.This research is a qualitative research with descriptive analysis method. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, recordings, direct observation, and field notes. Participants in this study were dendangers (Tasar), saluang artisans (Pono), and people in Koto Lalang Village, Lubuk Kilangan District, Padang City. The results of the data analysis show that the creation of the pantun and talibun in the Urang Piaman kaba at the Dendang Pauah performance is carried out by remembering techniques. The memory technique allows the drummer to improvise during the performance. The structure of the kaba text is in the form of narrative poetry and lyrical prose which uses poetry elements in the form of rhymes and talibun following a certain formula. The formula is applied to each line of text throughout the show. The formulas are at the couplet level, line pairs, single line, and more on the line (phrases, clauses, and words).

Abstract

This study examines the importance of integrating cultural elements into digital learning materials to enhance student engagement, comprehension, and motivation across diverse backgrounds. The primary objective is to explore students’ perceptions of the Indonesian Language course and their relationship with the need for culturally responsive digital teaching materials. Employing a quantitative correlational research design, data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 469 students from 40 study programs across 16 higher education institutions in Indonesia, selected through random sampling. The instrument used had been validated for both reliability and validity. The findings indicate that, overall, students’ perceptions of the Indonesian Language course fall into the “very positive” category. Moreover, these perceptions significantly correlate with the demand for culturally responsive learning materials. Data were analysed using Kendall’s tau-b and Spearman’s rho correlation techniques, yielding coefficients of 0.672 and 0.794, respectively. These results demonstrate a significant positive relationship between students’ perceptions and their need for culturally relevant digital materials. In other words, the more positive students' views of the Indonesian Language course, the greater their need for engaging learning resources that incorporate cultural elements.  AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas pentingnya menggabungkan unsur budaya dalam bahan ajar digital untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan, pemahaman, dan motivasi mahasiswa dari berbagai latar belakang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa pada Mata Kuliah Bahasa Indonesia dan hubungannya dengan kebutuhan akan bahan ajar digital yang peka terhadap budaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket yang diisi oleh 469 mahasiswa dari 40 program studi di 16 perguruan tinggi di Indonesia, yang dipilih secara acak. Instrumen yang digunakan sudah teruji valid dan reliabel. Hasil penelitan menunjukkan, secara umum persepsi mahasiswa terhadap Mata Kuliah Bahasa Indonesia berada dalam kategori “sangat baik”. Persepsi ini berkorelasi siginifikan dengan kebutuhan bahan ajar yang responsif budaya. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan teknik korelasi Kendall’s tau b dan Spearman’s rho, yang menunjukkan nilai 0,672 dan 0,794. Hasil ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara persepsi mahasiswa dan kebutuhan bahan ajar digital yang responsif budaya. Dengan kata lain, semakin positif pandangan mahasiswa terhadap mata kuliah Bahasa Indonesia, semakin tinggi pula kebutuhan mereka terhadap bahan ajar yang menarik dan mengandung unsur budaya.
