Abstract

This research discusses the efforts made by Ukraine to fulfill the political, economic and acquis criteria to become a candidate country for European Union membership under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky's efforts cannot be separated from the demands of the Ukrainian people and global conditions. This research uses the country level of analysis with the constructivism theory of Alexander Wendt. Alexander Wendt argued that a society will establish a common identity through cooperation and belief in the same values. The values possessed by society shape public opinion which influences political references which influence state policy making. The results of this research show that the Ukrainian people identify themselves as having the same values as the European Union (EU), namely the values of democracy and freedom, these values influence the political references of the Ukrainian people to have a pro-EU president. When Ukraine was led by a pro-Russian president, the Euromaidan revolution and the Orange revolution occurred which demanded a change of president. When in the 2019 election, Volodymyr Zelensky, who was a pro-EU candidate, was elected president of Ukraine, during his leadership Ukraine came under attack from Russia which increased Ukraine's demands to join the EU. With the Ukrainian people demanding to join the EU, Zelensky is making efforts to fulfill the criteria as a potential candidate country. In the political field, Zelensky made the Eastern Ukraine region a gray area militarily controlled by Russia but politically controlled by Ukraine. This agreement with Russia aims to make Ukrainian politics more stable. In the economic sector, Ukraine implemented a number of policies that allow investment to open up a free market and in the acquis sector, Ukraine ratified a number of European Union laws to become national laws. However, based on the assessment carried out by the European Union in 2022-2023, Ukraine is not yet worthy of becoming a candidate country for the European Union. Abstract

Japan is a developed country with the 4th economic level in the world, but in terms of gender equality Japan ranks 125th out of 146 countries in 2023. This places Japan as the country with the lowest level of gender equality in the Asia Pacific. Despite having ratified CEDAW since 1985, Japan has not been able to show significant progress in gender equality. This research analyses the barriers that make it difficult for the Japanese government to implement CEDAW. High gender gaps in political empowerment and participation opportunities in the economy are factors in Japan's low ranking. The research method used in this study is qualitative research, with a literature study data collection method through relevant writings such as journal articles, government reports, international organization reports, etc. The research was conducted using a constructivist perspective. The research was conducted using constructivism perspective and international norm implementation theory to analyze the implementation of CEDAW in Japan. The results show two factors that have hampered Japan's implementation of CEDAW, namely cultural factors and the Government of Japan. The embedded patriarchal culture makes it difficult for people to accept CEDAW. Government policies issued on CEDAW are not followed by clear mechanisms and sanctions. Resistance by culture and lack of government assertiveness caused the implementation of CEDAW to be hampered in Japan. Keywords: Implementation, Japan, CEDAW, Economy, Gender equality

Abstract

WWE was a global wrestling corporation that operated in the entertainment industry. In WWE, women wrestlers received unequal airtime, pay, and pay-per-view participation. The hashtag #GiveDivasAChance became popular in 2015 after a 30-second match between female wrestlers ignited the Twitter community. As Chief Brand Officer (CBO), Stephanie McMahon responded to audience feedback by empowering WWE women through Women Evolution. This research implied a constructivist viewpoint and a group analysis level. Utilizing secondary data collection techniques, literature, documents, and video observations published on the WWE channel, as well as video interviews with WWE female competitors, a qualitative research method was employed. This study showed that the value of women in WWE had changed. With the introduction of Women Evolution, which was being implemented in stages, the role of female wrestlers expanded, as evidenced by their participation in pay-per-view events. WWE collaborated with Girl Up, a global leadership development initiative founded in 2010 by the United Nations Foundation, to alter the perception of WWE women. WWE and Girl Up collaborated to create the Sport for a Purpose program, which sought to empower women in sports worldwide. Keywords : WWE, Girl Up, Equality, Gender, Women Evolution.

Abstract

This study explains the role of sports diplomacy through Wushu in the relationship between Indonesia and Tiongkok during the period 2018–2023. Tiongkok has long been known as a leading country in sports, especially in Wushu, which is widely recognized as a traditional Chinese martial art. The focus of the study is on Indonesia's cooperation with Tiongkok, which has made Wushu one of the instruments to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries. The findings show that sports diplomacy can play a significant role in building bridges of friendship between Indonesia and Tiongkok, with a subsequent impact on their political and economic relationships. The research findings are expected to inspire other countries interested in leveraging sports as a positive diplomatic instrument to support better international relations.
