Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills that need to be mastered in the 21st century. CTS especially in prospective elementary school teacher students, need to be developed because as an educator, teachers must face all the problems encountered in the learning process. This study aims (1) to determine whether there is a difference in CTS among students before and after receiving treatment (2) to identify the categories of differences in CTS among students after receiving treatment and its impact on their pro-environmental attitudes. This study is a pre-experimental research using a one group pretest posttest design. Students of the Elementary Education Study Program at Ahmad Dahlan University were given treatment through PBL by conducting an experiment on the use of banana peel waste as a substitute for carbon powder in batteries. A pretest was given before the students received treatment and the lecturer conducted the learning by presenting environmental problems, followed by a posttest. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 software to determine differences based on the Hake factor or N-gain. Additionally, the researcher analyzed the data using a paired t-test to assess the effectiveness of the PBL model. Based on the results of the study conducted using the N-Gain test, the average value obtained was 0.7239. This indicates that students experienced a significant improvement in learning outcomes, categorized as high (g 0.7). Furthermore, based on the results of observations and interviews, there was a significant impact after students participated in learning with treatment on the material of energy sources affecting the environment. Students demonstrated a positive attitude toward the environment, as evidenced by their sensitivity and openness to contributing to environmental conservation. Based on the gain values obtained, it can be concluded that the PBL model influences students' CTS and supports a positive attitude toward the environment

Abstract

This study is motivated by the tendency of Social Studies learning to focus on memorization and repetitive material without being accompanied by meaningful and contextual learning experiences. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of students' perceptions of repetitive learning on their motivation and interest in learning Social Studies. A quantitative approach with a correlational method was employed, involving 42 elementary teacher education (PGSD) students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and the data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation techniques. The results show that there is no positive relationship between perceptions of repetitive learning and learning motivation (r = 0.198; p = 0.209), nor with learning interest (r = 0.115; p = 0.467). However, a significant positive relationship was found between motivation and learning interest (r = 0.686; p = 0.000), indicating that motivation contributes to increased student interest in Social Studies learning. These findings suggest that repetitive learning alone is not sufficient to foster students' interest; therefore, learning strategies are needed that can enhance intrinsic motivation through more varied, contextual, and learner-centered approaches.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze students' critical thinking well by utilizing digital literacy. The method in this study is a qualitative method. Samples were taken from 2nd semester class A students at Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta. Data collection used a testing method. Critical thinking test questions function as instruments. Data analysis is the Miles & Huberman model analysis, namely qualitative data analysis, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Based on the research data, it can be concluded that the level of critical thinking of students is very high related to four indicators, namely interpretation, analysis, explanation and self-regulation. The conclusion and explanation indicators are included in the moderate category. This is based on the table described for the level of critical thinking of students. There are several things that an institution or university must do to maintain these capabilities in the digital era, so that students can use them wisely and benefit many audiences, such as: providing outreach regarding the proper use of social media and providing tips for avoiding hoax news, providing Montessori training to develop critical thinking skills, providing Mendeley training using qualified references.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and critical thinking have been incorporated into elementary school Natural and Social Science (IPAS) learning, although this integration is still limited. This study describes the application of ESD principles and examines the development of critical thinking in grade IV IPAS learning. A case study approach with a qualitative method with six grade IV teachers in Moyudan District, Sleman. Collect data through interviews, classroom observations, and document studies, then analyze using Miles and Huberman’s (1984) framework. The results show that ESD integration is limited to the IPAS subject and has not influenced school programs or culture. Students’ critical thinking competencies developed unevenly, with the analysis of information indicator emerging as the most prominent (43.7%), while the reflection on perspectives indicator showed no development. Limited worksheets further constrained students’ independence, making them reliant on teacher guidance. A whole-school strategy, problem-and project-based learning resources, and institutional support are all necessary, according to these findings. In addition to providing educators with helpful advice, the study demonstrates that Indonesian elementary schools continue to favor analytical skills when implementing ESD.

Abstract

Abstract

Problem-solving abilities are often associated with student self-efficacy. This is important because it is one of the mathematics learning goals that students must achieve. Based on a preliminary study through observation, documentation, and interviews with basic mathematics education lecturers at one of the non-state universities in Yogyakarta, it shows that students' mathematical problem-solving abilities and self-efficacy are not yet optimal. Development research was carried out with an investigative group through concept maps using the Dick and Carey model. The results of the effectiveness test on 33 basic education students at PGRI Yogyakarta University showed a significant increase in problem-solving abilities and self-efficacy, so it can be concluded that the development of an investigative group learning model is very valid and feasible to implement. It is hoped that this research can become a reference for the application of cooperative learning by lecturers at other universities.

Abstract

Online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacts the university level, especially during the learning process. This influence was felt by PGSD students at Yogyakarta State University when simulating online learning media. The simulation of learning media is undoubtedly related to students' science process skills as a provision for prospective teachers. These science process skills must be measured as preparation for becoming a prospective teacher in the learning process in the future. However, detailed measurements have not been carried out. Therefore, this study aims to describe the science process skills of PGSD students in simulating science learning media in a network. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques using observation and interviews. The data analysis technique uses Miles, Huberman Saldana, which consists of condensing the data, presenting the data and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are the indicators observing 83.33% very high category, classifying 44.44% moderate category, interpreting 33.33% low category, predicting 50.00% sufficient category, asking questions 50.00% sufficient category, formulating hypotheses 50.00% sufficient category, planning an experiment 77.78% high category, using tools and materials 11.11% deficient category, apply the concept of 61.11% high category and communicate 61.11% high category. In general, students' science process skills have not been able to optimally, so there is a need for a lecture program to simulate science learning media on a network by providing PhET simulation media.
