Abstract

Purpose – This article aims to analyze the influence of the Islamic school environment on students' prosocial behavior, with an emphasis on the integration of religious values in learning strategies and school policies. Design/methods/approach – This study used a sequential explanatory mixed-method design involving 445 students, four principals, and eight teachers from four Islamic junior high schools. The quantitative stage used structured questionnaires to assess prosocial behavior, school climate, and classroom learning practices. The qualitative stage involved interviews with principals and teachers to provide contextual understanding. Findings – Quantitative results show that the school atmosphere explains 27.2% of the variation in students' prosocial behavior (R² = .272). The most influential factors are peer relationships (β = .173), sense of belonging (β = .148), and interpersonal justice (β = .123). For classroom practices, positive teaching (β = .353) and teacher encouragement (β = .113) made significant contributions. Qualitative findings support these results, with teachers and principals citing programs such as 5S, study groups, and Friday donations as effective ways to foster empathy, cooperation, and concern among students. Research implications/limitations – This study highlights the importance of an Islamic-based environment in encouraging prosocial behavior, although the findings may not be generalized to non-Islamic educational contexts. Originality/value – This study offers valuable insights into the intersection between religion and education, and contributes to strategies for developing prosocial behavior in Islamic school.

Abstract

Investigation of criminal cases involving officers who have experienced trauma, such as sexual violence against children, has the potential to experience Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD). Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD) is a stress disorder that can arise from interactions with someone who experienced a traumatic event. Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD) can arise due to one of the triggers, namely emotional contagion, where empathy is often involved in handling cases involving women and children. The study examines the forms of emotional contagion, what factors can cause Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD), and how to overcome or prevent the onset of Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD). The study was conducted on four police officers who were investigators of sexual violence cases against children in the PPA Unit of Malang District Police. The research uses phenomenological qualitative methods with descriptive data results. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews and processed using thematic analysis techniques—data analysis using coding interview results. Data validity using credibility tested, with triangulation techniques of data sources and member checking. This study found that forms of emotional contagion exist in investigators, such as pity, feel sorrow, sadness, crying, and anger. In addition, several symptoms shown by each subject lead to symptoms of Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD), namely intrusive, arousal and avoidance symptoms. It was also found that there was a uniqueness in each subject in how to overcome the onset of Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD). STSD in the police has the potential to affect the accuracy in investigating the cases they handle, which then affects law enforcement in the community KEY WORDS police officer; sexual violence; secondary traumatic stress disorderr Copyright ©2023. Abstract

Exploring the Validity of a Creative Personality Scale in University Settings: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis Approach. Objective: This study aims to validate a revised 24-item Creative Personality Scale explicitly tailored for university students using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The scale addresses gaps in existing tools initially designed for high school students and offers a more accurate fit for higher education contexts. Methods: A sample of 804 students from various faculties was selected through stratified random sampling to ensure diverse representation. The scale was revised after the initial analysis revealed inconsistencies in certain items within the university context. CFA was then employed to assess the revised scale's construct validity and reliability. Findings: The revised scale demonstrated significant improvements in internal consistency, with Cronbach's Alpha increasing from 0.823 to 0.858. Additionally, model fit indices were favourable, with a Comparative Fit Index (CFI) of 0.92 and a Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) of 0.04, indicating strong model validity. Conclusion: This validated scale provides a reliable and accurate tool for assessing creativity in university students. It enables educational institutions to support better creativity development, which is increasingly essential for academic and professional success. The findings significantly contribute to educational psychology by providing a context-sensitive instrument for higher education. Keywords: confirmatory factor analysis, creative personality scale, internal consistency, validity, and reliability.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202494

Abstract

Islamic college students are individuals who simultaneously study at a university and an Islamic boarding school (pesantren), thus facing complex academic, social, and religious pressures. This study tested a gratitude model by examining the role of social support in gratitude through the mediation of spiritual well-being. A total of 233 Islamic college students from various Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia participated through an online survey using a purposive sampling technique. Structural Equation Modeling (AMOS 26) analysis showed that social support had a positive effect on spiritual well-being (β = 0.314; p < 0.001), but did not have a direct effect on gratitude (β = –0.010; p = 0.815). In contrast, spiritual well-being had a strong influence on gratitude (β = 0.713; p < 0.001) and fully mediated the relationship between the two (β = 0.224; p < 0.001), with a marginal model fit (χ²/df = 2.98; RMSEA = 0.094). These results indicated that gratitude is not formed directly from social support, but instead through spiritual well-being, which transforms external influences into inner well-being and grateful behavior. These findings extended the broaden-and-build theory (Fredrickson, 2004) from an Islamic psychology perspective and provide a practical basis for developing spiritual interventions to strengthen the psychological resilience of Islamic college students.
