Abstract

The  purpose  of  this  research  is  to find out the increase of student?s mathematical problem solving competence through the implementation of Osborn Learning Model, as well as compare it with the  student  who  earned  conventional learning.    In  addition,  the  purpose  of this research is to find out the increase of mathematical  problem  solving  competence on a group of student with high, middle, and low capability. The next purpose is to find out the attitude of the students against the osborn learning model. Methods used in this research is quasi Experimenter Method with pretest and post-test Marginalized Control Design. Population on this research are all of  students  of  VIII  grades  in  SMPN  1 Bandung. Samples on this research are two classes   of   VIII   grades,   one   class   as Experimental Class and the other one as control    class.    Research    data    obtained through the test of student?s mathematical problem solving competence, questionnaire, and  observation  sheets.  The  result  of  this research shows that the increasing of student?s   mathematical   problem   solving competence with Osborn Learning Model better than   the increasing of student?s mathematical  problem  solving  competence with conventional learning. There are differences in the increasing competence on the groups of high capability, middle capability and low capability in osborn class and   conventional   class.   In   general,   the students  give  a  positive  attitude  against Osborn Learning Model.

Abstract

Collaborative learning has been proven beneficial in mathematics education. This study aims to enhance learning outcomes through collaborative learning, particularly focusing on the topic of quadrilaterals. The research method employed in this study is classroom action research. Data analysis for this research utilizes both quantitative and qualitative data. The research findings indicate that: (1) students' learning outcomes prior to implementing collaborative learning were incomplete as students did not achieve the targeted indicators; (2) students' learning outcomes improved after the implementation of collaborative learning in both Cycle I and Cycle II; (3) the overall class achievement in Cycle I showed an improvement compared to the pre-action phase. Meanwhile, the mastery of learning between Cycle I and Cycle II showed further improvement, becoming even better; (4) observation results of the teacher's activities in facilitating collaborative learning in Cycle I were rated as moderately good, while in Cycle II, they were rated as very good; (5) students' responses during the collaborative learning process in Cycle I were categorized as moderately good, whereas in Cycle II, they were categorized as very good.

Abstract

Mathematical analogy reasoning ability is a skill in drawing conclusions based on the similarities between the two things being compared. This study aims to describe students' mathematical analogy reasoning abilities on pyramid material in grade eight junior high school students. This research is qualitative with a case study approach. The subject of this study was grade eight at one of the junior high school students in the city of Bandung, totaling 20 students. The research instrument used in this study was essay test of the mathematical analogy reasoning abilities and has been tested for feasibility. The results of this study were that there was two students who mastered 4 indicators, 2 students mastered 3 indicators, 5 students mastered 2 indicators, 5 students mastered one indicator, and there were 6 students who did not master any of the indicators. Furthermore, 5 out of 20 students were able to identify source problems by looking for the characteristics or structure of the problem (Encoding), 13 out of 20 students were able to find relationships or solve source problems (Inferring), 3 out of 20 students were able to find the same relationship between source problem with target problem and build conclusions from the similarity of the relationship between problem one and question two (Mapping), 8 out of 20 students were able to select the correct answer and were able to explain the analogy or similarity used between the source problem and the problem targets (Applying).

Abstract

Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) is an essential competency for mathematics teachers, as it significantly influences the effectiveness of student learning. This study examines the implementation of game-based learning in mathematics instruction through the lens of PCK. The research was conducted through observations of a junior high school mathematics teacher in Bandung Regency. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the mathematics learning process using the game-based method, focusing on its alignment with PCK principles. Data were collected through classroom observations and unstructured interviews with both teachers and students. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed for data analysis. The findings reveal the following key points: (1) Teachers do not prepare lesson plans or teaching modules before conducting classroom instruction; (2) Teachers' content knowledge requires reinforcement; (3) The formulation of exercises remains simplistic, lacking a range of difficulty levels (easy, medium, difficult), and does not include higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) questions; and (4) There is insufficient reinforcement when students struggle to recall fundamental concepts, such as fractions.
