Abstract

Many recommendations were made by the Indonesia’s government to prevent the occurrence of COVID-19 infection. One of those recommendations is to make several behavioural changes, such asincreasing the consumption of foods containing vitamin A, C, E, and zinc to increase immunity system in the body. These eating pattern can be influenced by several factors, such as individual perceptions. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the concept of the health belief model and the eating pattern of Nutrition Students of UNUSA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method of this study was analytic observational study with cross sectional design. The instruments used in this study were online questionnaire regarding the health belief model and semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQFFQ). All respondents had a high perception of the seriousness of the COVID-19 disease, benefits in increasing consumption of healthy foods, support for eating healthy foods, and self efficacy to adopt healthy eating pattern. 47.8% of respondents had a low perception of barriers to healthy behavior, while 65.5% of respondents had a high perception of susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Most of the respondents had adequate daily intake of vitamin A (93.8%) and vitamin C (74.3%). There was a difference in vitamin Cintake between the group with high perceived barrier and the low perceived barrier group (p value 0.037). There was significantly negative relationship between perceived barrier and vitamin E intake in the subjects, which means that if a person has higher barriers to consuming vitamin E, the person's vitamin E intake will also be lower. Keywords : COVID-19, health belief model, antioxidant, eating pattern

Abstract

Background: Irregular menstrual cycle in adolescent girls is an indicator of reproductive organ disorders. One of the risk factor for menstrual cycle disorders is nutritional status problem. Nutritional status can be measured using several anthropometric indicators such as body fat percentage and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC).Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between body fat percentage and MUAC with the menstrual cycle in girls of X High School Sidoarjo. Methods: The type of this research was cross-sectional. The sample used 66 students with stratified random sampling technique. Body fat percentage was obtained by using the Mi Body Composition Scale 2, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) was measured by using midline, and the menstrual cycle was obtained by using a menstrual cycle questionnaire for the last 3 months. Data were analyzed with Rank Spearman test. Results: The results showed that average of body fat percentage was 26.8%, MUAC was 23.8 cm, and menstrual cycle was 35 days. Based on the test of the relationship between body fat percentage and the menstrual cycle, p-value 0.000 (r-value -0.875) were obtained, while MUAC and the menstrual cycle showed p-value 0.000 (r-value -0.916). The higher the body fat percentage, the shorter the menstrual cycle. The smaller the MUAC, the longer the menstrual cycle. Conclusions: There was a significant relationship between body fat percentage and MUAC with the menstrual cycle within girls in X High School Sidoarjo. Adolescent girls are expected to maintain normal nutritional status in order to maintain the regularity of their menstrual cycle, so as to minimize the risk of infertility in the future.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of pre-metabolic syndrome components, such as abdominal obesity and elevated blood pressure, in teenagers is increasing yearly. One of the modifiable risk factors to pre-metabolic syndrome is lifestyle, including dietary intake, physical activity, and sleep duration. Based on preliminary study, 80% (12 of 15) students were found to have high blood pressure. Aims: The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between nutrition and lifestyle factors with pre-metabolic syndrome in high school students. Methods: This study was cross-sectional design with 90 adolescents as respondents. Instruments used in this study were sphygmomanometer and waist ruler to measure blood pressure and waist circumference; 3x24 hours of food record and SQ-FFQ to observe dietary intake; modified PSQI to assess sleep duration; and modified IPAQ to know physical activity score in respondents. All data were statistically analyzed with Spearman correlation test. Results: The findings of this study were fat intake, fulfillment of fat requirement (% of fat requirement), natrium intake, and sleep duration were significantly associate with pre-metabolic syndrome occurrence in adolescents (p<0.05). Coefficient correlation showed positive for fat intake, % of fat requirement, and natrium intake (respectively 0.705; 0.511; 0.854) and negative for sleep duration (-0.819). Conclusion: there are association between fat intake, fulfillment of fat requirement (% of fat requirement), natrium intake, and sleep duration with pre-metabolic syndrome in adolescents. This study findings may be used as evaluation for government nutrition programs for adolescents.

Abstract

Background:   The Covid-19 pandemic increases the risk of weight gain and stress in young adults, especially female college students. Adequate exercise interventions are needed to prevent the incidence of obesity and its complications.  Objective :   To determine the effectiveness of aerobic dance exercise and walking on body mass index (BMI) and stress in overweight or obese female college students.   Methods :  This study was an experimental pre-posttest design with 28 people sample size divided into 2 groups, namely the intervention group (aerobic exercise) and the control group (walking). The treatment was given for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times a week. Results : The results showed a significant decrease in stress scores before and after treatment in the intervention and control groups (p 0.05). The post-test stress scores between the intervention and control groups were also significantly different, which means that aerobic exercise has a better effect on reducing stress than walking. A significant decrease in BMI also occurred before and after treatment in the intervention group from an average of 27.65 (2.39) to 27.34 (2.41), but this did not occur in the control group. Conclusion :   Aerobic exercise is proven to be effective in reducing BMI and stress in overweight or obese female students, while walking is only effective for reducing stress but cannot reduce BMI in overweight or obese female studentsKeywords : Female College Student, Body Mass Index, Stress, Aerobic Dance, Walking

Abstract

From 2013 to 2018, the proportion of anemia in pregnant women in urban and rural areas increased from 37.1% to 48.9%. This study aims to analyze the differences in determinants of anemia in pregnancy based on place of residence. Research was conducted in 2024. The research sample in rural areas was 39 pregnant women with anemia, and in urban areas was 31 pregnant women with anemia. Ratio scale data, including nutritional intake, is tested for normality with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, then tested using the t-independent test. Other variables are tested using the Mann-Whitney test. Regarding the various determinant factors studied, including the age of pregnant women, nutritional status, and gravida status, there is no significant difference (p-value > 0.05) in pregnant women with anemia in rural and urban areas. There is a significant difference (p-value < 0.05) between nutritional knowledge, food expenditure, and nutritional intake in pregnant women with anemia in rural and urban areas. Based on the determinant factors of anemia in pregnancy studied, food expenditure, nutritional knowledge of pregnant women, protein, iron, and vitamin C intake in pregnant women with anemia in rural and urban areas differ significantly.
