Abstract

Suco Village is located in Mumbulsari District, Jember Regency, with a total population of 12,604 people. This makes Suco Village the second most populous village among the seven villages in the district. The high population has resulted in increasingly limited agricultural land, resulting in a decline in food crop production, particularly vegetable production. To address this issue, a proposal was made to develop vegetable cultivation by optimizing the use of home gardens as alternative planting areas. The purpose of this community service activity was to provide education and assistance to PKK women regarding environmentally friendly, easy-to-implement yard use and support family food security. A total of 12 participants enthusiastically participated in the counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice of planting vegetables in their home gardens using simple methods such as vertical cultivation and polybags. Based on the post-test results, there was an increase in community knowledge about vertical cultivation by 97.8%, knowledge of drip irrigation systems by 123.7%, and understanding of economic and environmental benefits by 80.4%. This proves that the training activity succeeded in transferring knowledge effectively. High post-test scores indicate that participants not only received the information but were also able to understand the theory and practice provided well.

Abstract

Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) is one of the agricultural commodities with high economic value, but its cultivation faces various challenges, including climate change and suboptimal environmental management. Conventional microclimate control methods are primarily manual and reactive, often failing to maintain stable conditions during the critical phase of generation. Technological innovations, especially IoT-based microclimate controllers, enable real-time monitoring and automated regulation of temperature, humidity, and light, thereby reducing environmental fluctuations that negatively affect flowering and yield. This research aims to develop and apply an IoT-based microclimate controller that optimizes growth conditions during the generative phase of vanilla, and to evaluate its impact on growth and crop yields. The study was conducted over a 3-month generative period, using 30 vanilla plants per group (n = 60 in total), with three replications. Data were collected weekly and analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests to compare growth and yield performance. The results show that IoT-based microclimate controllers significantly improved optimal temperature and humidity stability, increasing plant growth and crop yields. The average stem length and number of flowers per plant increased by 30% and 25%, respectively, compared to the control group, while vanillin content rose from 1.8% to 2.5%. These findings offer new insights into sustainable vanilla cultivation management, which can be adopted by farmers to enhance productivity and quality. Recommendations for further research include developing more advanced systems, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and applying these technologies in different climatic conditions.

Abstract

Edamame is a legume with high economic value and requires large amounts of NPK nutrients to support its growth and production. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizosphere Bacteria (PGPR) and NPK nutrient uptake on the growth and yield of edamame (Glycine max (L.) Merril). The experiment used a Factorial Randomized Block Design with two factors: edamame root PGPR (0 ml/l and 150 ml/l) and lemuru fish amino acids (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 ml/l). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, followed by DMRT test at a significance level of 5% or 1% if there was a significant difference. The results showed that PGPR and amino acids did not significantly affect plant height, number of leaves, root length, shoot-root ratio, total pod weight, number of pods, or nutrient availability. However, amino acids and PGPR significantly increased the number of pods and reduced the percentage of empty pods. This shows that although PGPR and amino acids do not affect vegetative growth, they increase pod filling efficiency, thus contributing to increased edamame yield.

Abstract

The golden snail is one of the pests that damage rice plants, this pest has the ability to reproduce quickly, causing the golden snail to become one of the main pests in lowland rice. But the golden snail can be used as a basic material for liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) because it contains protein, Azotobacter, Azospirillum, phosphate solubilizing microbes, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, enzymes and the hormone auxin. The effectiveness of the golden snail LOF has been tested on several agricultural crops, one of which is rice. In the Podo Tentrem Farmers Group, these pests are simply thrown away and have not been utilized properly. Whereas the potential of this golden snail can be very high if it is processed into organic fertilizer. Therefore, with this community service activity, it is hoped that it can improve competence, skills and increase the production output of the Podo Tentrem farmer group. This can be measured by the enthusiasm of the participants who were attended by 100% of the invitees, besides that the participants also knew the stages of work and succeeded in making Keong Mas LOF well. In addition, other assessment indicators are using quantitative data on pre-test and post-test scores. Before the counseling was carried out, the pretest value was 50 and after the knowledge training, it increased with an average post-test score of 76. These results can indicate that in theory and practice, on average, participants understand and can make golden snail LOF.
