Abstract

Acne is one of the diseases that occurs in the skin due to inflammation caused by bacteria. Propionibacterium acnes is a main bacterium causes acne that forms part of the normal flora of the skin and only live in normal-alkaline pH. Lime juice and honey are the most commonly used by the community to overcome the problem of acne to avoid the side effects of acne medications in the form of antibiotics. Lime juice and honey have a low pH value so that it can be used as an antibacterial by inhibiting bacterial growth, even killing bacterial cells that are not acid resistant. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of lime juice and Randu honey in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The study was conducted using the disk diffusion method with 4 variations of concentration; 25% v/v, 50% v/v, 75% v/v and 100% v/v in 4 repetitions incubated for 24 hours at 37 °C. The results of this study are in the form of clear zones around the disc paper which are considered as an inhibitory zones. The formation of inhibitory zones shows the potential of lime juice and honey randu (Randu honey) against the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria as antibacterial. Lime juice and Randu honey each with a concentration of 25% v/v, 50% v/v, 75% v/v and 100% v/v has the potential as an antibacterial against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. It is concluded that the optimal concentration of lime juice and Randu honey in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes were at a concentration of 100% v/v with a inhibition zone of 9.11 mm for lime juice and 28.10 mm for honey randu (Randu honey).

Abstract

Rimpang lengkuas merah (Alpinia purpurata K. Schum) jenis tumbuhan yang sering dimanfaatkan sebagai obat herbal.  Rimpang lengkuas merah mengandung minyak atsiri terdiri dari metilsinamat, eugenol, senyawa flavonoid, alkaloid, steroid yang dapat berfungsi sebagai antijamur dan antibakteri, yang dapat berfungsi sebagai sediaan kondisioner. Sediaan kondisioner memiliki keunggulan lebih praktis dan merupakan salah satu sediaan semi padat yang digunakan untuk pemakaian luar dengan cara dioleskan pada bagian rambut setelah penggunaan shampo. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendapakan formulasi sediaan kondisioner dengan konsentrasi ektrak rimpang lengkuas 5%, 10%, dan 15%  pembanding yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu formulasi sediaan kondisioner tanpa zat aktif. Evaluasi fisik yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini berupa uji stabilitas dengan metode cycling-test selama 6 siklus yaitu 12 hari yang mencakup uji homogenitas, uji pH, uji viskositas, dan uji ketahanan krim. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa formula 2 merupakan formula yang terbaik dengan konsentrasi 5% ekstrak rimpang lengkuas merah. Berdasarkan uji organoleptik menunujukkan kondisioner pada penelitian ini memiliki bau khas rimpang lengkuas merah, berwarna coklat, berstektur lembut, kental, homogenitas yang stabil, nilai pH antara 5,6-6,3, nilai viskositas antara 5.061,0-18.398,0. Semua formulasi menunjukkan mengalami kenaikan dan penurunan selama waktu penyimpanan.

Abstract

Diare akut merupakan buang air besar lebih dari 3 kali perhari, disertai perubahan konsistensi tinja menjadi cair dengan atau tanpa lendir dan darah yang berlangsung kurang dari 14 hari. Terapi antibiotik merupakan salahsatu standar tatalaksana diare akut yang dianjurkan oleh WHO. Ketidaktepatan terapi antibiotik pada diare akut balita dapat menyebabkan kematian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ketepatan terapi antibiotik pada pasien diare akut balita di instalasi rawat inap Rumah Sakit Dr. Soedjono Magelang tahun 2018. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian non-eksperimental yang dilakukan dengan pengumpulan data rekam medik pasien rawat inap secara retrospektif sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan dianalisis dengan pedoman World Gastroenterology Organisation Acute Diarrhea in Adults and Children: A Global Perspective 2012 dengan metode deskriptif retrospektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 34 sampel balita dengan diagnosa diare akut dan mendapat terapi antibiotik meliputi 91% tepat indikasi, 91% tepat obat, dan 85% tepat dosis.

Abstract

Kersen (Muntingia calabura) merupakan salah satu tumbuhan liar yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal.Tumbuhan ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai tanaman obat dengan memanfaatkan daun atau buahnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan  untuk memformulasikan ekstrak etanol 70% daun kersen dengan metode maserasi menjadi sediaaan gel semprot sebagai antijerawat serta mengetahui karakteristik fisik gel semprot ekstrak etanol daun kersen dan diuji aktivitas antibakterinya terhadap 3 bakteri penyebab jerawat, yaitu Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes. Analisis Data satistik menggunakan one way anova. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Ekstrak etanol daun kersen dapat diformulasikan sebagai gel semprot dan memiliki karakteristik yang stabil secara penampakan fisik, viskositas, pH dan pola penyemprotan.  Perbedaan konsentrasi karbopol 940 1%, 1,5% dan 2% pada formulasi gel semprot ekstrak etanol daun kersen berpengaruh pada nilai viskositas, pH, daya sebar dan bobot semprot sediaan. Uji formulasi gel semprot dengan konsentrasi karbopol 1,5% merupakan konsentrasi terbaik karena memiliki nilai viskositas, pH, dan pola penyemprotan sesuai dengan rentangan sediaan gel semprot yang baik. Formulasi Gel dengan karbopol 940 1%, 1,5% dan 2% stabil secara sentrifugasi, penampakan fisik, homogenitas dalam pengujianya 21 hari penyimpanan. Sediaan gel semprot ekstrak etanol daun kersen mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri S. aureus, S. epidermidis, dan P. acnes ditunjukkan dengan adanya  zona bening yang menunjukkan adanya zona hambat.

Abstract

Pertumbuhan industri pangan halal semakin pesat seiring pertambahan jumlah populasi Muslim dunia. Permintaan produk pangan halal oleh negara-negara non-muslim juga meningkat sejalan dengan peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat umum tentang proses-proses ketat untuk mencapai status halal. Bioteknologi mengalami perkembangan yang pesat hingga saat ini. Peranan bioteknologi sangat luas dalam aspek pemenuhan kebutuhan manusia salah satunya yaitu dalam industri makanan. Beberapa proses bioteknologi baik konvensional maupun modern tidak terlepas dari peranan mikroorganisme. Tujuan penelitian ini guna mengetahui pemanfaatan Rhizopus oryzae dalam  produk olahan pangan susu (keju) halal yang berbasis bioteknologi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan 3 (tiga) tahap yaitu tahap pertama pembuatan produk bioteknologi pangan. tahapan kedua adalah pembuatan diagram alir proses produksi produk. Tahap ketiga yaitu identifikasi resiko titik kritis kehalalan produk. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan Rhizophus oryzae  berpotensi sebagai starter dalam pembuatan keju berpotensi menggantikan rennet. Rennet mengandung enzim renin yang berperan menggumpalkan susu. Rennet dikategorikan halal, jika rennet berasal dari hewan halal dan proses penyembelihan sesuai dengan syariat islam.Indonesia merupakan negara dengan mayoritas penduduk muslim sehingga dalam penyediaan pangan sangat memperhatikan aspek kehalalan.

Abstract

Islam is a religion that likes cleanliness, in case of body hygiene, clothing, and environment. One of the diseases that arise because it does not keep the body clean is white discharge. Piper bettle folium and Alium sativum are some of the natural ingredients that has the potential as an antifungal. This research aims to see the effect of antifungal Candida albicans extract of Piper bettle folium and Alium sativum after formulated as a liquid soap preparation. Liquid soaps are made by hot process methods with 3 formulations of combination of Piper bettle folium and Alium sativum extract with a ratio of 1) 25%: 75% 2) 50%: 50% 3) 75%: 25%. The evaluation of liquid soap include organoleptic examination, pH, high foam, moisture content, homogeneity, and antifungal power test against Candida albicans fungus. The results of the testing of liquid soap quality of green betel leaf extract and garlic have met the standards SNI (Indonesia’s National Standards) set for the manufacture of liquid soap.The results showed that liquid soap extract of green betel leaf and garlic have antifungal activity against Candida albicans. The result of formulation with the highest inhibition zone is formulation 3 and formulation with the lowest inhibition zone is the formulation 1. The test of this liquid soap activity is higher than fluconazole as the positive control and liquid soap of female area spread in the market.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the difference of antibacterial effectivity between ointment  and cream Musa paradisiaca var. Sapientum (MPvS) peel extract against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Objective: To prove the antibacterial effect of banana peel extract with 5%,10%,15% concentration cream and oitments on Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: This study was applying the true experimental design with analyzed statistically with the ANOVA test and continued with the Duncan test to determine the level of treatment that provided the difference and the T-test to determine the most effective differences between groups. The results of the antibacterial activity of cream with a concentration of 10% with an inhibition zone diameter of 12.80 mm and Ointment at a concentration of 15% with an inhibition zone value of 11.07 mm were able to inhibit antibacterial activity. Conclusion, banana peel MPvS extract Cream Formula is the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Water gourd is a fruit that has a high water content efficacious as a medicine for high fever due to typhoid or infection because it has a cooling effect. This study aims to make a suspension of water gourd extract and multiflora honey as a therapy for typhoid. Suspension preparations are expected to provide a faster therapeutic effect and have good stability. Three suspension formulations were made with sodium alginate as a suspending agent with a concentration of 1%, 3%, 5% suspending agent. Evaluation of suspension preparations included sedimentation volume, redispersion, organoleptic, particle size, pH level, and viscosity. The best and most stable suspension formulations were suspension preparations with a concentration of 1%.

Abstract

The habits of the Indonesian people in carrying out hand hygiene activities are still very low with an average of only 12%. Along with the density of community activities, which consider hand washing a troublesome activity, it is also caused by the lack of clean water availability in the community. Therefore, there are hand sanitizer products that are practical without using water or commonly referred to as hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizer contains antiseptic substances that can kill germs on the palms due to the presence of alcohol (ethanol, propanol and isopropanol) and the phenol group (chlorhexidine and triclosan). Alcohol has the ability to inhibit bacterial growth, both against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including MRSA (Methicilin Resistant of Staphylococcus aureus). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of humectant variations on the evaluation of the preparation and the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results of the evaluation of the preparation of the hand sanitizer formulation are in accordance with the SNI No. 06-2588-1992, namely on the parameters of homogeneity, pH and dispersion. Meanwhile, the viscosity parameter is not in accordance with the standard. Variations in humectant concentration affect the evaluation of the preparation of the hand sanitizer gel formulation on the parameters of pH and dispersion. The formulation that had the greatest inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus was the formulation with the highest humectant concentration of propylene glycol, namely formulation 3 with an inhibitory power of 22.8 mm.

Abstract

Pumpkin water (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl) is a fruit that has a high water content that is efficacious as a cure for high fever due to thyphus or infection because it has cooling effect. This study aims to make suspensions of pumpkin extract and multiflora honey as a theraphy for fever thypoid. Suspended preparations are expected to provide a theraupetic effect which is faster and has good stability. Three suspension formulations ware made with sodium alginate suspending agent with a concentration of suspending agent 1%, 3%, 5%. Evaluation of suspensions preparations includes sedimentation organoleptic, viscosity. The best and most stable suspension preparation formula is suspension preparations with a 1% concentration of sodium alginate.
