The study used a quasi-experimental design and a simple random sampling technique to select participants. The study included two classes: Class X-MIPA 2 was designated as the experimental group, and Class X-MIPA 1 was designated as the control group. The research involved 52 students in total. Pre- and post-tests were used to collect data, which was then statistically analyzed using the t-test procedure. The study's findings revealed a statistically significant difference in academic performance between the experimental and control groups. There was a significant improvement in the students' reading comprehension scores after the treatment was completed. The computed test statistic (t-test) was 6.44, which was greater than the critical value of 1.68. This study's findings led to the acceptance of the research hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho). The effectiveness of using English comic webtoons as an instructional medium for improving the reading comprehension skills of tenth-grade students at MAS Ulumuddin, specifically in relation to narrative texts, is highlighted in this study. This study provides important insights for teachers looking for visually appealing methods to improve reading comprehension in the classroom. The study employed a quasi-experimental design and utilized a simple random sampling technique for participant selection. reading comprehension in the classroom.

Abstract

Advancements in technology are crucial in achieving the goals of Society 5.0. To achieve this goal, teaching-learning process must be equipped to digital media technologies. As mastering speaking skills is considered as the most challenging aspect in language learning, the aim of this research is to investigate the impact of an interactive learning setting on students' engagement and motivation. Equally significant, to identify best practices for integrating digital media into teaching speaking. This study employed a mixed-methods, combining qualitative and quantitative to comprehend and answer the phenomena. Researchers collected the data by using surveys, observation, and speaking tests. Survey responses and test results were summarized using quantitative analysis. While qualitative analysis was used for observation, it was analyzed to identify common themes and insights about the use of digital media to teach speaking skills. The results of observation showed that interactive learning activities improved students' engagement and motivation in learning speaking skills, and the results of the speaking tests proved that the students' speaking skills improved. Survey results showed that using social media (TikTok) as a digital platform for teaching speaking is the best practice for integrating digital media in enhancing speaking skills within the framework of Society 5.0. This study has significant implications for education, especially in terms of incorporating digital technologies into teaching and learning practices. These findings will be useful for educators, policymakers, and institutions looking to improve learning outcomes in the digital age while also adhering to Society 5.0 principles.

Abstract

This study investigates the complex relationship between power dynamics, gender inequalities, and ideological influence in the field of journalism during the Taliban regime's rule. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is used in this study to investigate the various constraints faced by female journalists and media workers. This research paper investigates the consequences of limited information access, as well as widespread arrests and intimidation by both government officials and fighters. The study also looks into the Taliban's strict limitations on media activities, such as the division of workspaces, the requirement for women to cover their faces while on screen, and the regulation of analyst involvement in political programming. The intricate power dynamics that underpin their narratives are revealed through this analysis. The de facto government and combatants are portrayed as entities attempting to maintain their authority, whereas the Taliban attempts to impose regressive ideologies to women who work in news media.

Abstract

Organizational conflicts are intrinsically linked to leadership and political dynamics. This study aims to describe an empirical experience and develop a model of the efficacy of political policy practices in resolving organizational conflicts within pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). The study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing the diary method based on empirical data gathered from fourteen years (2010-2024) of active and consultative management of a pesantren. The research informants include the most senior leader of the pesantren and several teachers involved in the conflict. Informants were identified using the snowball sampling technique. The findings of this study reveal that the political practices of leadership in managing conflicts within pesantren consist of three strategic steps: the central role of leadership and political acumen, the reinforcement of cultural values within the pesantren through collective commitment, and the effectiveness of the employed conflict resolution strategies. Resolving individual conflicts, particularly those involving teachers and leadership, is essential to prevent the escalation of disputes into open conflicts. Conversely, individual conflicts between teachers and staff often lead to collaboration and compromise. Moreover, institutional conflicts between the pesantren and external parties create a competitive environment in which the pesantren's position must be fortified to ensure legitimacy while minimizing external interference. This research carries significant social implications. If pesantren successfully navigate conflicts, they are likely to benefit the broader community. As religious institutions, pesantren require support, protection, and advocacy.

Abstract

Students’ comprehension of narrative texts was hampered in the chosen educational setting, necessitating the implementation of effective interventions. The Rally Coach strategy, an emerging approach, is based on the notion that collaborative learning boosts student performance. This study aims to determine if there is a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students taught using the Rally Coach Strategy and those taught using traditional methods. A quasi-experimental research design was employed to assess the efficacy of Spencer Kagan's Rally Coach Strategy in improving students' reading comprehension skills. The study's t-test results showed a significant improvement in reading comprehension, with a value of 6.039 exceeding the t-table result of 2.048, indicating a substantial improvement in reading comprehension achievement. These findings support the alternative hypothesis, implying that implementing the Rally Coach Method in the experimental classroom would significantly improve the quality of reading comprehension instruction. Overall, this study adds valuable empirical evidence to support the Rally Coach strategy's effectiveness in improving students' reading comprehension skills. This study addresses a critical educational concern by identifying a successful intervention to address low reading comprehension achievement and emphasizes the importance of cooperative learning strategies, such as the Rally Coach Strategy, in improving students' overall reading comprehension abilities.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges faced by native Fataluku speakers in learning English pronunciation and the potential confusion experienced by native English speakers when interacting with Fataluku speakers who are currently learning English. These challenges arise due to phonetic differences between the two languages which can affect the effectiveness of cross-language communication. This study used voice recordings from native Fataluku speakers and analyzed consonant and vowel sounds by applying the Perceptual Assimilation Model (PAM). This model allows the identification of phonetic similarities and differences between Fataluku and English sounds, as well as the prediction of potential difficulties in second language sound acquisition. The results show that Fataluku speakers face significant difficulties in pronouncing some English sounds. The main difficulties are found in consonant pairs such as /ŋ/ and /n/, which are often mispronounced or not consistently realized. In addition, vowel pairs such as /ɪ/ and /ʊ/ are also challenging, mainly due to the absence of similar sounds in Fataluku. These findings highlight the difficulties in pronunciation not only affect Fataluku learners' confidence in speaking English, but can also lead to misunderstandings in cross-cultural interactions. As a result, cross-language communication becomes less effective, potentially affecting social integration, educational and employment opportunities for Fataluku speakers. Therefore, these findings have important implications for language teaching practices, including the need for teaching strategies that focus on difficult sounds and a contrastive phonetic approach to help Fataluku speakers improve their English speaking skills.
