Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out The Effect of Picture Series on Students’ Achievement in Writing Recount. The design applied in this research was experimental research design.  This research was conducted in X grade at MAS Alwashliyah 12 Perbaungan Academic Year 2022-2023 . There were two classes of X grade. Each class consisted of 32 students. So, the total number of population were 64 students. Cluster-sampling technique was employed in taking the sample. X -2 was selected as experimental group and X  -1 was selected as control group. There are 64 students were chosen as the sample. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The data were analyzed by using t-test. After the data had been analyzed, it was obtained tobserved value  was higher than that of ttable (1.57 > 1.671) with the degree of freedom df = 58 at the level of significance α = 5. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In conclusion, Picture Series significantly affected on students’ achievement in writing recount. Keywords: Picture Series, Writing, Recount .

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini merupakan hasil dari pelaksanaan Program Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) yang diselenggarakan oleh Universitas Al Washliyah Medan. Kegiatan ini secara khusus dilakukan di SMP Negeri 4 Kisaran Kelurahan Dadi Mulyo dengan tujuan utama meningkatkan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa, dengan mengadopsi pendekatan Mnemonik. Mnemonik adalah metode pembelajaran yang mengaplikasikan prinsip penyandian atau pengkodean guna memfasilitasi siswa dalam mengingat informasi saat belajar. Fokus kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pelatihan kepada siswa untuk meningkatkan perbendaharaan kata bahasa Inggris dengan melibatkan mereka dalam melengkapkan kode-kode yang diberikan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini mencakup peningkatan perbendaharaan kata bahasa Inggris siswa melalui penerapan Mnemonik. Dengan demikian, hasil yang diperoleh melalui kegiatan ini menggambarkan betapa pentingnya penerapan Mnemonik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan perbendaharaan kata bahasa Inggris siswa, yang pada gilirannya memberikan manfaat signifikan untuk proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris mereka.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of integrating Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with the Pearson English Portal (PEP) to improve grammar proficiency among language learners. This study aims to fill in the gaps in the literature by examining the combined impact of this innovative pedagogical approach on the mastery of grammar skills. This study determined whether learners who engaged in PBL activities with PEP resources achieved a more significant increase in grammar proficiency than traditional instruction methods. Based on the independent t-test, the test value of the sig post (2-tailed) for the control class was 0.991 and for the experimental class was 0.991. Thus, the results of the independent t-test for hypothesis testing had a significant effect on the grammar mastery of students who learned using Problem-Based Learning Integrated with Pearson English Portal.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to find out if Discovery Learning model by integrating Virtual Writing Tutor significantly affects students' writing achievement. The study's population consisted of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 11 Medan. There were 10 parallel classes at the tenth-grade, each consisted of 35 students. In the process of this study, two classes were selected as samples, resulting in a total sample of 70 students. Cluster random sampling technique was used in selecting the samples. This study employed a quantitative experimental design, and data were collected through written tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. The finding revealed that the use of Discovery Learning model integrated with Virtual Writing Tutor positively affected students' writing achievement. After the data analysis was conducted using t-test with SPSS version 20 software, the significance value (2-tailed) it was found that tobserved was higher than ttable (16.143 > 1.995) with the degree of freedom df =68 at the level of significance α =0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, indicating that the Discovery Learning model integrated with Virtual Writing Tutor significantly affected students' writing achievement. This approach can be considered an alternative strategy for delivering more interactive, engaging, and relevant writing instruction to meet students' learning needs in the digital era. Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMA Swasta Muhammadiyah 1 Medan pada tanggal 16 September 2025 dengan tujuan memperkuat literasi kritis dan kesadaran gender siswa melalui unit pembelajaran Voice and Visibility. Unit ini dirancang sebagai respon atas minimnya integrasi isu kesetaraan gender (SDG 5) dalam buku ajar Bahasa Inggris Kurikulum Merdeka. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan berbasis genre (GBA), problem-based learning (PBL), dan project-based learning (PjBL) dengan durasi 90 menit, melibatkan 30 siswa kelas XII. Aktivitas meliputi analisis teks diskusi, penulisan teks argumentatif, serta proyek kreatif berupa kampanye digital tentang kesetaraan gender. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa siswa mampu memahami isu gender secara kritis, menyampaikan pesan aksi nyata melalui poster dan kampanye digital, serta menunjukkan keterlibatan kolaboratif dalam proyek. Respon siswa positif, dengan ketertarikan pada isu gender sebagai hal baru yang belum pernah mereka pelajari sebelumnya, meskipun mereka menyarankan adanya aktivitas warm-up untuk meningkatkan suasana belajar. Kegiatan ini menegaskan pentingnya integrasi nilai keberlanjutan dan kesetaraan gender dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai dukungan terhadap pencapaian SDG 5.
