Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the validity of Curipod's integrated Problem Based Learning (PBL) based learning e-Module on excretory system material as biology teaching material at SMA Negeri 1 Suwawa. This research is a type of research and development or Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model which includes Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate. However, this research only reached the stage of development and limited scale trials. The data collection instruments used consisted of validation sheets of media experts and material experts. The results of the study show that the Curipod integrated PBL-based learning e-Module is in the very valid category, with a percentage of media expert validity of 95% and validity of material expert of 97%. Thus, these findings show that the developed E-Module is suitable for use as teaching materials to support biology learning in excretory system materials.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an E-LKPD based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) that is suitable for use in teaching biodiversity material to 10th grade high school students. This is a development study based on the ADDIE model, with the development stages limited to implementation through limited-scale trials. The research subjects consisted of 16 10th grade students at a high school in Gorontalo City. The validity of the learning tools was reviewed based on strong theoretical rationale and internal consistency through assessment by media experts, subject matter experts, and practitioners. The validation results showed that the media experts' scores ranged from 86% to 100%, while the subject matter experts' and practitioners' validation scores ranged from 71% to 85%, indicating that the tools were valid and feasible. Practicality was tested through the implementation of learning, student activities, and student responses. The implementation of learning was rated as excellent with a score of 81%–100%, student activities were rated as good with a score of 61%–80%, and student responses were rated as acceptable. The results of the study indicate that PBL-based E-LKPD assisted by live-worksheets is feasible to use and receives positive responses from students.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an important component in 21st-century Biology education, which demands the ability to critically analyze scientific concepts and information. However, students' critical thinking skills are still relatively low. This study aims to describe the profile of critical thinking skills of eleventh-grade students at a high school in North Sulawesi on the human digestive system. The method used is a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The sample consisted of 19 randomly selected students. The research instrument was a test developed based on five critical thinking indicators according to Ennis, providing simple explanations, building basic skills, concluding, providing advanced explanations, and developing strategies and tactics. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively by looking at the percentage of achievement in each indicator. The results showed that most students' critical thinking skills were in the low category. As many as 74% of students were very low in providing simple explanations, and 89% were in the very low category in the advanced explanation indicator. The highest achievement only reached the sufficient category. These findings indicate that conventional Biology learning practices have not been able to encourage the development of critical thinking skills optimally. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of implementing profile-based diagnostic assessments and integrating active, contextual learning strategies that are oriented towards higher-order thinking skills in Biology learning.
