Abstract

Yogyakarta International Airport (IATA: YIA, ICAO: WAHI) is an airport located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with a terminal area of 219 hectares and a runway measuring 3,250 × 45 meters, capable of accommodating up to 20 million passengers annually. This study analyzes the damage occurring in the airport terminal area using a descriptive qualitative method through field observations and interviews. The observation results indicate that the terminal has experienced minor structural damage. The earthquake-resistant building assessment was conducted by classifying the airport under a seismic spectrum category of 0.8 (Risk Category II according to SNI 1726:2019) with an importance factor (Ie) of 1.0. Structural analysis was performed using SAP2000 V22 software with beam and column dimensions of 40 × 40 cm, concrete compressive strength (f’c) of 35 MPa, and steel yield strength (fy) of 240 MPa. The analysis results demonstrate that the structural design remains feasible as a reference for an earthquake-resistant building, as evidenced by the structural performance graphs generated from SAP2000 V22 calculations. Damage repair methods may include epoxy injection for crack treatment and reconstruction of severely damaged structural elements to ensure the continuity of airport operations and maintain optimal service performance.

Abstract

The road in front of the firefighting study program at the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic experienced serious damage in the form of transverse cracks and a 4.6 × 4.6 m collapse. This damage was caused by the frequent passage of heavy foam-tender vehicles during practice, disrupting operations and endangering user safety. This condition indicates the need for pavement capable of withstanding high dynamic loads in a limited area. This study aims to redesign the rigid pavement layer in the courtyard of the PPKP Poltekbang Palembang Building. Specific objectives include identifying the type and severity of damage, calculating traffic and vehicle loads (ESAL), and determining the optimal pavement thickness for structural repair. The research applied a quantitative approach with primary data from field observations and damage measurements, and secondary data from literature and PKP-PK vehicle specifications. Analysis was conducted using the AASHTO 1993 method with a focus on ESAL calculations to determine rigid pavement thickness. Results showed that damage was due to heavy foam tender traffic. The 20-year cumulative ESAL of 84.25 is considered low, but the high axle load requires a minimum 20 cm concrete slab for safety and optimal service life. This research provides technical recommendations for safe, efficient road repairs in campus areas with high dynamic loads.

Abstract

Abstract

Rubber deposit waste generated from aircraft tire abrasion on airport runways has potential as a substitute material for fine aggregate in concrete mixtures, in line with the need to reduce dependence on natural aggregates whose extraction can damage ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the grain characteristics of rubber deposit waste compared to sand as a conventional fine aggregate, as a preliminary feasibility study for its use in concrete mixtures. The research employed a quantitative method with an experimental approach through sieve analysis testing using a Sieve Shaker, with three repetitions for each material, followed by comparative analysis. The results show that, visually, rubber deposit waste appears darker than sand due to its material content, which mostly originates from the abrasion of aircraft rubber tires. The sieve analysis results indicate that rubber deposit waste generally has finer grains than sand, marked by a passing percentage on the 0.425 mm sieve of 66.91% compared to 26.72% for sand, and a much higher content of very fine particles (passing the 0.075 mm sieve), namely 11.01% compared to 0.49% for sand. This gradation difference indicates that rubber deposit waste has potential as a partial substitute for fine aggregate, although its high fine-particle content needs to be further considered in relation to water demand and the workability of the concrete mixture. This study provides a basis for further research on the effect of rubber deposit waste substitution on the physical and mechanical properties of concrete.

Abstract

Aviation accidents occurring in water environments present high levels of complexity and require specialized rescue capabilities. This study aims to analyze the impact of basic water rescue competency requirements on victim rescue techniques and the use of water safety equipment. A quantitative research design employing an explanatory survey method was used. The study utilized a causal relationship model involving one independent variable—Basic Water Rescue Competency Needs (X)—and two dependent variables: Victim Rescue Techniques (Y₁) and the Use of Water Safety Equipment (Y₂). The research was conducted at Airport Authority Units (UPBU) located within an operational radius of ±8 km from water bodies. Hypothesis testing results demonstrate that the need for basic water rescue competencies significantly influences victim rescue techniques (t = 13.446; Sig. = 0.000) and the use of water safety equipment (t = 16.785; Sig. = 0.000). These findings indicate that basic water rescue competence is statistically associated with the ability to rescue victims and the proper use of safety equipment; consequently, the results can serve as a basis for developing basic water rescue training to support preparedness and safety in water-based rescue operations.
