Abstract

Bacterial leaf blight (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), is one of the most destructive diseases affecting rice, resulting in significant yield losses and reduced grain quality. The overuse of chemical bactericides has raised environmental concerns and contributed to the emergence of resistant pathogen strains, emphasizing the need for sustainable alternatives. Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) offer a promising alternative due to their dual role in enhancing plant growth and suppressing phytopathogens. This study aimed to isolate and characterize PGPR from the rhizosphere of Imperata cylindrica, a grass species thriving in the extreme sand sea environment of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (BTSNP), Indonesia. The sampling site represents a unique volcanic soil ecosystem characterized by sandy texture, high surface temperatures, and nutrient-poor conditions, with no vegetation other than I. cylindrica. These extreme environmental conditions suggest that the associated microbial communities may be highly adapted to abiotic stress and possess valuable traits for plant growth promotion and pathogen suppression. A total of 46 rhizobacterial isolates were obtained, of which five (Isolates 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12) demonstrated nitrogen-fixing ability, phosphate-solubilizing activity, and strong antagonism against Xoo. Morphological, physiological, and biochemical analyses identified Isolates 5, 8, and 12 as Pantoea spp., while Isolates 6 and 10 were classified as Erwinia spp. In vitro inhibition assays revealed that Isolate 6 exhibited the highest antagonistic activity, comparable to streptomycin, and was categorized as "Very Strong." These findings highlight Isolate 6 as a promising candidate for development as a biological control agent for sustainable rice disease management.

Abstract

Coleopteran has a remarkable degree of environmental adaptation, allowing it to survive and reproduce in a variety of habitats. Research was conducted to determine the distribution of Coleopteran insects and the influence of commodities on the composition of Coleopteran insects. The research was conducted in May-August 2021 in Pendem Village, Batu City. Sampling is accomplished visually and through the placement of yellow pan traps and pitfall traps on tomatoes, large chili peppers, onions and cucumbers for 9 weeks. The study revealed 15 morphospecies belonging to the families Anthicidae, Carabidae, Chrysomelidae, Coccinellidae, Scarabaeidae, Staphylinidae, and Tenebrionidae which have roles as herbivore, predator and detritivore. In tomato plants 862 individuals were found, in large chili plants 1444 individuals were found, in onions plants 519 individuals were found and in cucumber plants, 697 individuals were found.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether travel vlog production as project-based learning can improve the speaking performance of tourism industry students and identify tourism industry students’ perception of producing travel vlogs as project-based learning. This research employed a mixed-method research design. The quantitative design utilized a pre-experimental design involving a one-group pretest-posttest. Meanwhile, descriptive qualitative was applied to the qualitative design. In collecting data, researchers employed tests and interviews as instruments. The data was evaluated using a t-test to define the hypothesis. Additionally, the analysis of the interview transcript was applied. Producing travel vlogs for project-based learning has improved the speaking performance of tourism industry students. Students can expand their ideas and creativity to produce a travel vlog. Tourism industry students also positively perceived the travel vlog production as project-based learning. Most of the students felt happy with producing travel vlogs as project-based learning. This research provides recommendations to many people to produce more travel vlogs so that tourists can use them as a guide for their travel activities

Abstract

Rice field bunds function as a reservoir of biodiversity, one of which is entomopathogenic fungi (EPF), which plays a role in controlling insect populations and increasing plant resistance. This study aimed to explore the interaction between organic matter content, soil pH, and EPF diversity in rice fields from Mulyoagung Subdistrict, Malang Regency. EPF was isolated using the insect bait method, followed by pathogenicity testing on Tenebrio molitor larvae. The Shannon-Wiener index (H'), evenness (E), and dominance (C) were used to assess the diversity of EPF on rice field bunds. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to test the relationship between organic matter content, soil pH, and EPF diversity. Based on the results of the study, three genera of EPF were found in the rice fields, namely Beauveria, Fusarium, and Metarhizium. The presence of EPF is influenced by understory plants and the amount of organic matter in the soil. Therefore, preserving rice field bunds is very important to maintain the EPF population.

Abstract

Soil is a habitat for many types of microbes that have a role in maintaining soil nutrition, and most of them grow around plant roots. Factors that are quite influential in the growth process are the hormone auxin, which has a role in stem bending and stimulates differentiation. This study aimed to obtain a genus of IAA hormone-producing rhizosphere fungi (Indole-3-Acetic Acid) and determine the effect of environmentally friendly and conventional land cultivation on the diversity of IAA hormone-producing fungi at Agrotechnopark UB Cangar Garden. Fungi isolates were cultured on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) and Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) media enriched with tryptophan as a precursor to form IAA. IAA measurements were carried out qualitatively by adding the Salkowski reagent and quantitatively by measuring the absorbance. As many as 10 rhizosphere fungal isolates were obtained from environmentally friendly land and 8 fungal isolates from conventional land, which produced IAA hormones. The fungal genera obtained included Acremonium, Aspergillus, Colletotrichum, Fusarium, Penicillium, and Trichoderma. Environmentally friendly cabbage fields (average: 283.8 ppm) showed higher yields than conventional fields (average: 140.9 ppm) in producing IAA hormones. There was a correlation between soil pH and organic matter on fungal diversity, with a correlation value of 0.878. The diversity index value of rhizosphere fungi was 1.359; the evenness index was 0.845, and the dominance index was 0.302 on environmentally friendly land. The diversity index value of rhizosphere fungi was 1.213; the evenness index was 0.875, and the dominance index was 0.344 on conventional land.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to empirically examine the role of financial literacy and its influence on business performance in the university entrepreneurial students. The research population is entrepreneurship students at Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) with a total of 1215 SMEs with the sample being 105 respondents. The collected data were analyzed using a structural equation model based on Partial Least Squares. The analytical tool used is Smart PLS 3.0 software. The results found that several obstacles faced by student-operated SMEs were found lack of knowledge about business management, especially finance, lack of professional assistance, time allocation constraints that clashed with lectures and motivational constraints to always be consistent in entrepreneurship. The results of the study concluded that financial knowledge, financial attitudes and financial behavior each had a positive effect on the entrepreneurial business performance of student-operated SMEs. The results underscored the need for social support from the universities to boost financial entrepreneurship and financial literacy among entrepreneurial students.
