Abstract

The increasing complexity of environmental issues demands early education that fosters ecological awareness. One strategic approach is strengthening ecoliteracy competencies in elementary school students. This study aims to identify the needs for developing IPAS learning materials based on the internalization of Kampung Bungur’s local wisdom to stimulate students' ecoliteracy. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, collecting data through observation, interviews, and document studies in two partner elementary schools. The findings reveal differences in learning approaches. School A relies on teacher-centered methods and simple media, while School B adopts a participatory approach and develops its own learning materials. However, neither school has comprehensively integrated local wisdom and ecoliteracy principles into their IPAS instruction. This indicates an urgent need for contextual teaching materials that combine local wisdom with ecoliteracy to build students’ environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices. The study recommends the development of contextual teaching materials that align with students’ daily lives and local environments to support sustainable education from an early age.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of natural disaster vulnerability, especially earthquakes. Pangandaran Regency as one of the earthquake prone areas requires effective mitigation education strategies for elementary school students, which are included in vulnerable groups. This study aims to examine the importance of disaster literacy in elementary school students through the integration of educational pocket books and disaster mitigation simulations. Research used a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach supported by field data from 36 students at SDN 2 Karangjaladri, Pangandaran Regency. The results of the study show that disaster literacy is not sufficient to be built through the delivery of theory, but it needs to be supported by communicative learning media and contextual experience. Pocket books provide ease of access to information, facilitate independent learning, and help strengthen the understanding of mitigation concepts in a concise and attractive manner. Meanwhile, mitigation simulation provides direct learning experiences through role-play that are able to instill skills to act quickly and precisely when disasters occur. The combination of the two forms an integrative and effective learning approach, in line with the principle of an independent curriculum that emphasizes active, contextual, and participatory learning. Thus, the integration of pocket books and mitigation simulations can be a significant strategy in increasing disaster literacy of elementary school students, as well as forming a culture of preparedness early on in disaster -prone areas.

Abstract

Character education in elementary schools still faces obstacles due to the dominance of lecture methods and a lack of contextual learning experiences. The Character Garden Program was developed as a community service innovation to strengthen teachers' capacity in integrating character values through school garden-based learning in Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City. The activity was implemented using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving lecturers, teachers, principals, and the education community. A total of 39 teachers from seven elementary schools participated in training, module development, and implementation of the character garden in their respective schools. The results showed a significant increase in teachers' understanding of character education integration, with an average pre-test score of 61.05 increasing to 77.24 (p < 0.001). Among students, responsible behavior increased from 2.61 to 3.40, and mutual cooperation from 2.63 to 3.36. Teachers also reported positive changes in the form of increased student discipline and environmental awareness. This program produced a Character Garden module that has been used in seven schools and registered as IPR. This activity has had an impact on improving teachers' pedagogical competence and the formation of a character-based school culture. The next program recommendation is to expand the implementation of the Character Garden by utilizing teacher working groups to implement learning activities that foster character education in a concrete way. Long-term mentoring is also needed to strengthen the program's sustainability and evaluate the impact of student character in real-life contexts.

Abstract

Understanding the concept of Indonesia's geographical location is essential for elementary school students, as it helps them express ideas, opinions, and understand the country's richness. However, IPAS (Social and Natural Sciences) learning at SDN Margamulya and SDN 1 Karangsambung faces several challenges, mainly due to ineffective teaching methods. To address this issue, this study introduces an Android-based E-Module as an innovative solution. The aim is to describe students' understanding before and after using the E-Module and to measure its impact. This research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, and data were collected through tests. Results from Grade V showed that before using the E-Module, no students were in the "very good" category, only 2 in the "good" category, 9 in "fair," and 8 in "poor." After using the E-Module, there was a significant improvement: 8 students reached the "very good" category, 11 were "good," 1 was "fair," and none were in the "poor" category. Based on hypothesis testing, the use of Android-based E-Modules had a positive effect on students' understanding of IPAS concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of rhythmic motif patterns in the children’s song Lihat Kebunku and to examine their meaningfulness in the context of elementary school music learning. A qualitative approach with content analysis was employed by examining the song’s score and lyrics. The results indicate that the rhythmic patterns are dominated by consistent and repetitive motifs across the antecedent and consequent phrases, facilitating children’s memorization and active participation during learning activities. No significant musical techniques such as diminution, augmentation, or retrograde were found, reflecting a simple rhythmic structure appropriate for the cognitive development of elementary school children. These findings align with previous research highlighting the important role of rhythmic patterns in enhancing children's creativity and musical abilities. Therefore, the rhythmic motif patterns in Lihat Kebunku can serve as a reliable basis for developing effective and enjoyable music teaching materials for elementary education.
