Abstract This study aims to determine whether there are differences in the mathematical representation abilities of students who are taught using the Realistic Mathematic Education (RME), Contextual Teaching And Learning (CTL), and conventional learning approaches. This type of research is quasi experimental research. The population of this research was all class VIII SMPN 24 Bengkulu Utara with a sample of students of class VIII A as the experimental class I, students of class VIII B as the experimental class II, and students of class VIII C as the control class. The data were collected by means of a mathematical representation ability test of the students and then analyzed using the Anava test. The results of the Anava test analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mathematical representation abilities of students taught through the RME approach with the CTL approach, as well as the conventional approach. The results showed that the class that was taught using the RME learning approach obtained an average final score of students' mathematical representation ability of 16.8. Classes taught with the CTL learning approach obtained an average final score of students' mathematical representation abilities of 17.9. Meanwhile, in the class taught by conventional learning, the final average score of students' mathematical representation ability was 13.80. The results of the LSD test (Least Significant Difference) showed that the treatment that gave different results was the treatment between experiment I and control and experiment II with control.

Abstract

This study investigates the enhancement of students' mathematical and logical thinking skills through kite-making activities using the STEM approach. Conducted with 28 ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 03 Bengkulu Tengah, this qualitative descriptive research utilized observation, documentation, and interviews for data collection. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, focusing on integrating geometry, measurement, and symmetry within the kite-making process. The findings reveal that STEM-based kite-making activities significantly improve students' logical reasoning and problem-solving skills by contextualizing abstract mathematical concepts into practical tasks. Students demonstrated the ability to sequence steps systematically, provide logical arguments, and draw accurate conclusions. These results emphasize the potential of project-based learning in fostering higher-order thinking skills. This study suggests that incorporating similar activities in the curriculum can enhance students' cognitive and practical competencies. Further research is recommended to explore its implementation across diverse educational levels and environments.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze students' mathematical reflective thinking abilities through a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, focusing specifically on making "telong-telong." Mathematical reflective thinking involves students' ability to connect mathematical knowledge with new experiences, find relationships between concepts, and assess and improve their problem-solving strategies. This study follows a qualitative descriptive research design, with a case study approach conducted at SMP Negeri 03 Central Bengkulu, involving 28 students from class IX-A. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, focusing on how students approached mathematical problem-solving tasks in the context of PBL. The findings revealed that students could connect mathematical concepts such as symmetry and geometry to creating "telong-telong," demonstrating their ability to formulate creative solutions and reflect on their problem-solving approaches. Data analysis indicated that PBL facilitated students' critical, creative, and reflective thinking, enabling them to assess and refine their mathematical processes. These results suggest that the PBL approach effectively enhances students' mathematical reflective thinking abilities, providing a more practical and meaningful learning experience.
