Abstract

This research aims to analyze the increase in students' critical mathematical thinking skills after being given treatment using the approach problem solving. This research was carried out at SMP Negeri 36 Bandung in class VIII with a sample size of 25 students. The method used in this research is quasi-experimental. The instrument and learning tools used are questions pretest and questions posttest. The data collection technique in this research is 5 descriptive questions with indicators of critical thinking abilities. Data analysis was carried out using the N-Gain test, normality test, test Mann-Whitney, homogeneity test, and Test independent t-test. The results of the research showed that there was an increase in students' mathematical critical thinking abilities by learning using problem solving approach.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan pemahamn konsep matematis siswa setelah mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik pada materi aljabar. Penelitian dilakukan di SMP Pondok Pesantren Baitul’Izzah Nusantara pada kelas VII yang terdiri dari 20 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi soal pretest dan posttest serta Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) yang berisi materi aljabar. Data yang terkumpul akan dianalisis menggunakan analisis 2 sampel dependent, dimulai dengan uji normalitas untuk memastikan distribusi data, dan dilanjutkan dengan uji homogenitas serta uji t-test untuk menilai signifikansi perbedaan antara nilai pretest dan postest. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa setelah pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan saintifik. Temuan ini memberikan dukungan bahwa pendekatan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman konsep matematis, khususnya dalam konteks materi aljabar.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach in enhancing junior high school students' mathematical critical thinking skills on the topic of ratios. The subjects of the study were students from SMP IT Nur Al Rahman Cihanjuang, divided into two classes. One class, comprising 21 students, served as the experimental group and received instruction through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach, while the other class, also consisting of 21 students, served as the control group and received conventional instruction. The instruments used included interview sheets, documentation studies, student response questionnaires, observation sheets, and a test of mathematical critical thinking skills with 5 essay questions. The data obtained from the pretest and posttest were analyzed using inferential and descriptive statistics. The study's findings indicated that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach was more effective in improving the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students on the topic of ratios compared to conventional teaching methods. Consequently, there was an improvement in the mathematical critical thinking skills of students using the PBL approach compared to those using conventional teaching methods.

Abstract

The matter of algebraic form is crucial to study because the matter of the algebraical form is not only related to other mathematical matters but also related to everyday life, but there are still many students who have difficulty in communicating the explanation of the origin of the algebraic form. This is because the learning media used by the teacher is not interactive, so it affects the student's understanding and communication skills. For this reason, the study aims to cultivate the interest in learning and cultivate students' mathematical communication skills by developing algebraic learning media supported by a PowerPoint application. The method used in this research is research and development, with the development of a modified 4-D model in three stages namely determining, designing, and developing.  The tool used to measure the quality of the learning media is a validation questionnaire for measuring the validity and student response to strengthen practicality. The results of this study show that the quality of the learning media meets the valid criteria with an overall average score of 79% and From the test carried out against students obtained an average scoring of 76%. Thus, the development of algebra learning media supported by the PowerPoint application has good quality and can be used in mathematical learning.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the development, feasibility, effectiveness, and difficulties in the development of teaching materials on the Pythagorean Theorem using a scientific approach assisted by Canva to enhance the mathematical reasoning abilities of junior high school students. This research was conducted at SMP PGRI 10 Bandung using the Research and Development (R&D) method based on the 4D stages. The research subjects included 33 students from class IX F for limited trials, 27 students from class VIII B, and 29 students from class VIII D for extensive trials. The research instruments used in this study included interviews in the preliminary learning, student responses to the teaching materials, expert validation sheets, and 6 items of reasoning ability test questions. The material used in this research was the Pythagorean Theorem. Student reasoning ability test data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel calculations. The research results indicate that: 1) the development process of the 4D method teaching materials, including a) Define (Definition); b) Design; c) Develop; and Disseminate, have been successfully implemented according to the plan; 2) the validator calculation results obtained a percentage of 86.21%, categorized as "very valid and do not need revision"; 3) the student reasoning ability test results prove that the teaching materials are reasonably effective; 4) significant difficulties include students' lack of understanding of the material, low activity, and a lack of supportive learning facilities.

Abstract

This research aims to examine students' mathematical communication abilities on linear program subject. The research method is using descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects who is selected in this research is 5 students of 11th Grade from vocational school in West Bandung regency. The instrument of this research is in the form of test and interview. The result of the research is mathematic communication ability of 11th Grade vocational school students in West Bandung regency in understanding linear program subject is still low. Conclusion of this research is students effort of daily events in language or mathematical symbols or composing a mathematical model of an event in question 1 of 35.0%, students effort in painting or presenting real objects, drawings, and diagrams in the form of ideas and or mathematical symbols at number 2 of 30.0%, and the students effort in explaining ideas, situations and mathematical relationships, both orally and in writing using real objects, images, graphs and algebraic expressions in question 3 of 45.0%. Abstract english version, written using Time New Roman-12, italic. Abstract contain research aim/purpose, method, and reseach results; written in 1 paragraph, single space among rows, using past tense sentences.

Abstract

One of the subjects that students must master is mathematics. This study aims to determine the difficulties experienced by students, especially in low grades, during the teaching and learning process of mathematics subjects. The method used in this research is the descriptive-qualitative method. Based on interviews that have been conducted, information has been obtained that some students tend to have some difficulties with basic skills such as subtraction, multiplication, and fractions. The causes of the obstacles experienced by students are that math subjects are considered scary lessons, there is a lack of use of learning media, and students are used to routine problems. Efforts made by teachers to overcome the obstacles that occur include using various learning media, peer tutors, additional support for students who need it, selecting strategies, approaches, methods and techniques to support learning to be more effective

Abstract

Including mathematics in primary school curricula is a must. The reality that kindergarteners still have a long way to go before they can grasp basic multiplication concepts. The media and learning methods aren't as appealing, which is the main reason. We propose a cooperative learning model based on the make-a-match algorithm. First, we want to know how well the Cooperative Learning Model Type Make a Match helps second graders grasp multiplication ideas. Second, we want to know what kinds of challenges students have when trying to use this model to increase their learning. three difficulties that educators face while using this paradigm in the classroom. This study used a mixed-methods approach. A one-group pretest and posttest based on a sequential explanatory pre-experimental design is used in this study. Second graders served as the subjects of the study. Research tools include interviews, surveys, and tests. The research results indicate that: (1) there is an improvement in the understanding of multiplication concepts after applying the Model Make a Match, (2) students difficulties in using this model include: difficulty in writing down what is known- asked, lack of understanding of the content story problems, time management, difficulty in concluding discussion results, and difficulty in communicating or presenting discussion results. (3) the challenges teachers face in using this model include: classroom management, generating student interest in reading or understanding the content, lack of familiarity with using the model and time management.

Abstract

Learning motivation is something that must be owned by every individual, especially for students, with the motivation to learn students can be encouraged to develop more advanced and can achieve their learning goals. Students' learning motivation during this pandemic has decreased due to several factors and obstacles felt by students. These factors come from external factors and internal factors. The purpose of this study was to find out that group guidance services boldly through problem solving techniques can be used for student motivation. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 1 Cipatat which consisted of 9 students, 7 female students and 2 male students. Data collection techniques using observation and interviews. Group guidance services are provided in 2 meetings. The results of the research obtained after being given the service that students experienced changes that were seen based on aspects of their learning motivation, namely students became more enthusiastic in daring learning, had curiosity, and students wanted to know the wider world so as to increase student learning motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of career guidance services on career interests of class XI students SMA Mutiara 2 Bandung. This research uses the research method of counseling guidance action (PTBK) with the subject of research as many as  20 students of clas XI SMA Mutiara 2 Bandung. The method of data collaction using observation, interviews, and research documentation. Consists of 2 cycles. While the data analysis technique used descriptive analytical analysis. The process of data analysis begins by examining all the data obtained, either though interviews or observations. Then described by using percentage analysis. The Results of the study indicate that in the initial conditions,students’ career intrests are still in the “not good” category, in the first cycle there are indicators that have increased in the “very good” category, namely the indicator of introduction to the world of work with descriptors knowing the world of work, with percentage of by 75% of the 15 students. While in the second cycle all indicators have increases by getting the “very good” category with a percentage of >80% on each indicator from 18 students. Thus, it can be concluded that career guidance services can affect the career interests of students in class XI SMA Muttiara 2 Bandung.
