Abstract

This research was conducted at a Yapim Private Education Foundation School in the Biru-biru area of ​​Deli Tua Deli Serdang. The aim of this research was to determine whether explicit teaching of selected grammatical aspects, modal auxiliary verbs, improved students' ability to write English. This training involved 35 class XI students. In the training, students are divided into two study groups to be given training by the speaker. Each group was given the opportunity to write essays marked by a focus on students' ability to use modal auxiliary verbs. The results obtained were that after this training was carried out, it was found that the study group performed better than the previous group. The students experienced better things in the use of modal auxiliary verbs. With these findings, we hope to carry out further training in teaching grammar at all levels of students' studies to overcome the challenges they face in writing English. Teaching and Training in the field of English must be in accordance with adequate grammar lessons in each class. Pelatihan atau Sosialisasi ini dilakukan di sebuah Sekolah Yayasan Pendidikan Swasta Yapim di daerah Biru-biru Deli Tua Deli Serdang Tujuan dari Pengabdian Masyarakat ini adalah untuk menentukan apakah pengajaran eksplisit aspek tata bahasa yang dipilih, kata kerja bantu modal, meningkatkan kemampuan siswa menulis bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan ini mengajak 35 orang siswa kelas XI. Dalam Pelatihan siswa dibagi jadi dua kelompok belajar untuk diadakan pelatihan oleh pembicara. Setiap kelompok diberi kesempatan untuk membuat tulisan berupa essai ditandai dengan fokus pada kemampuan siswa menggunakan kata kerja bantu modal. Hasil yang didapat bahwa setelah pelatihan ini dilaksanakan didapatlah kelompok belajar tersebut berkinerja lebih baik dari pada kelompok yang sebelumnya. Para siswa mengalami hal lebih baik dalam penggunaan kata kerja bantu modal. Dengan adanya temuan ini berharap untuk melakukan pelatihan selanjutnya baik dalam pengajaran tata bahasa di semua tingkat studi siswa untuk mengatasi tantangan yang mereka hadapi dalam menulis Bahasa inggris. Pengajaran dan Pelatihan bidang bahasa Inggris harus sesuai dengan pelajaran tata bahasa yang memadai di setiap kelas.

Abstract

In Dusun IV Rahayu, Sidodadi Village, Biru-Biru Subdistrict, a discussion was held regarding the five priority diseases, which were narrowed down to one issue by considering aspects such as the severity of the problem, the wide distribution of the disease, and the rate of its spread, using the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) method. By using a scoring system of 1 to 10 and assessment through a matrix, asthma was identified as the prioritized disease. A community service program was conducted with a counseling session in Dusun IV Rahayu, Sidodadi Village, Biru-Biru Subdistrict, held in a single meeting on May 18, 2024, attended by 40 residents. The results showed a 79% improvement in understanding the material on proper waste management. It was also found that 45.8% of residents owned trash bins, 41.5% did not have trash bins, and 12.7% disposed of waste carelessly, with waste accumulation still occurring at the residents' homes in the hamlet. Dusun IV Rahayu Desa Sidodadi Kecamatan Biru-Biru dilakukan diskusi 5 penyakit yang diprioritaskan menjadi 1 masalah dengan mempertimbangkan aspek besarnya masalah, luasnya distribusi penyakit, kecepatan penyebaran dengan menggunakan metode Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), dengan menggunakan skor 1 – 10 dan penilaiannya dengan matriks, maka ditemukan penyakit asma. Dilakukan program pengabdian masyarakat dengan penyuluhan di Dusun Dusun IV Rahayu Desa Sidodadi Kecamatan Biru-Biru satu kali pertemuan di 18 Mei 2024 dengan jumlah peserta penyuluhan 40 warga yang hadir, dengan hasil peningkatan pemahaman dari materi penyuluhan pengolahan sampah yang benar atau sebanyak 79 % mengalami peningkatan. Dan ditemukan 45,8 % warga memilki tempat sampah, 41,5 % warga tidak memiliki tempat sampah, dan 12,7 % warga membuang sampah sembarangan serta masih terjadi penumpukan sampah di kediaman warga dusun

Abstract

Using a cooperative learning model of the Word Square variety, the study sought to enhance the English language learning activities and motivation of nursing students at the Health Institute of DELI HUSADA Deli Tua Deli Serdang. The study took place in September and August of 2023. Thirty DELI HUSADA Deli Tua Class B Nursing Students, sixteen of whom were female and fourteen of whom were boy, comprised the samples for the academic year 2023–2024. The parameters of measurement were student motivation and learning activities. The results showed that student motivation had increased. Prior to the action, the average student motivation was 2.92 (medium category), but in the first cycle, it increased to 4.21 (high category). In the second cycle, students' motivation rose by an average of 4.56 points (high category). The average percentage of student learning activities increased in the first cycle category, where there was a sufficient amount of 669.95%. The average percentage for both categories in the second cycle was 84.45%.The study's findings suggest that using Word Type Square's Cooperative Learning Model to teach students can boost their enthusiasm and engagement in the classroom. in English classes at Class B of Nursing Students DELI HUSADA Deli Tua in Academic Year 2023/2024.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan di sebuah Perguruan Swasta Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada Deli Tua. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan apakah pengajaran eksplisit aspek tata bahasa yang dipilih, kata kerja bantu modal, meningkatkan kemampuan siswa menulis bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dan menggunakan desain studi kasus. Penelitian ini menggunakan sample sebanyak 80 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara acak pada tahun 2024 di Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada Deli Tua, 40 peserta secara acak ditugaskan ke dalam kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Untuk kelompok eksperimen, pelatihan berlangsung enam minggu. Kedua kelompok dibuat untuk menulis esai serupa dan esai tersebut ditandai dengan fokus pada kemampuan siswa menggunakan kata kerja bantu modal. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen berkinerja lebih baik daripada kelompok yang ikut dalam eksperimen tersebut kelompok kontrol dalam penggunaan kata kerja bantu modal. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, penelitian merekomendasikan secara eksplisit pengajaran tata bahasa di semua tingkat studi siswa untuk mengatasi tantangan yang mereka hadapi dalam menulis Bahasa inggris.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence/AI) telah membuka peluang baru dalam pembelajaran bahasa, khususnya dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penerapan chatbot interaktif berbasis AI sebagai media pembelajaran Untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMA Negeri 1 Deli Tua, penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen., di mana siswa dibagi menjadi Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Kelompok eksperimen menerima perlakuan tertentu dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, sementara kelompok kontrol tidak mendapatkan perlakuan tersebut. Hasil dari kedua kelompok kemudian dibandingkan untuk menganalisis efektivitas metode yang digunakan dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test serta kuesioner untuk mengukur efektivitas chatbot dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang menggunakan chatbot interaktif mengalami peningkatan signifikan dalam kelancaran, pengucapan, dan kepercayaan diri dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris dibandingkan dengan siswa dalam kelompok perbandingan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa chatbot berbasis AI dapat berfungsi sebagai sarana yang efektif untuk mendukung pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang lebih interaktif dan disesuaikan secara personal.

Abstract

Abstrak Tata bahasa memainkan peran penting dalam penulisan, yang memiliki beberapa elemen. Penggunaan kata ganti orang adalah salah satu elemen tersebut. Kata ganti dalam kalimat yang merujuk pada orang atau benda tertentu disebut kata ganti orang. Penelitian ini bertuan untuk mengetahui apakah sudah benar kata ganti orang digunakan oleh mahasiswa tingkat 3 Program Studi Keperawatan di Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada dalam menulis teks naratif di Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada Deli Tua. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, dengan dokumen sebagai sumber data. Sebanyak 38 teks naratif yang ditulis oleh mahasiswa keperawatan dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa masih melakukan kesalahan dalam menggunakan kata ganti orang, termasuk kata ganti subjek (benar 65,9%), kata ganti objek (benar 52,2%), kata ganti adjektiva possessif (benar 59%), kata ganti possessif (benar 50%) dan kata ganti refleksif (benar 44,4%). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan kata ganti orang masih terbatas. Kata Kunci: Kata ganti orang, menulis, teks narasi "An Analysis of Personal Pronoun Usage in Narrative Writing Among Second-Year Undergraduate Nursing Students at the DELI HUSADA Institute of Health, Deli Tua" Abstract Grammar plays a crucial in writing. It has several elements. The use of personal pronouns is one of these elements. Pronouns in sentences that refer to specific people or things are called personal pronouns.The objective of this study was to investigate how personal pronouns are used by Nursing students level 3 of Nursing Studi Program of DELI HUSADA Institute of Health in writing narrative texts at DELI HUSADA Institute of Health Deli Tua. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with documents as the data source. A total of 38 nursing student-written narrative texts were analyzed. The findings revealed that Nursing students level 3 of Nursing Studi Program of DELI HUSADA Institute of Health still made errors to use the personal pronouns, including Subject Pronouns (accurate 65,9%), Object Pronouns (accurate 52,2%), Possessive Adjective Pronouns (accurate 59%), Possessive Pronouns (accurate 50% and Reflexive Pronouns (accurate 44,4%). The conclusion is that Nursing students level 3 of Nursing Studi Program of DELI HUSADA Institute of Health in ability to use personal pronouns is still limited. Abstract

English language competence has become a crucial skill in various professional fields, particularly in health sciences. In the era of globalization, health workers are not only required to possess technical expertise but also the ability to communicate effectively in English, especially in the context of health promotion. This community service program aimed to enhance the English proficiency of public health students through the implementation of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to prepare them for workforce readiness. The program was conducted at the Faculty of Public Health, Medistra Health Institute, Lubuk Pakam, on July 7–8, 2025, and involved 120 students. The activities consisted of pre-tests, interactive workshops, practical training, and post-tests. Workshop sessions included the introduction of health promotion terminology, reading and interpreting health-related texts, developing promotional materials such as leaflets and posters in English, and practicing oral communication through role plays and presentations. The results showed a significant improvement, with an average score increase of 96.67% between the pre-test and post-test. Participants demonstrated better mastery of health promotion vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing skills, and oral communication in English. Furthermore, they produced tangible outputs such as digital leaflets, health posters, and short educational videos. Based on participant feedback, 92.6% expressed high satisfaction with the program, indicating its relevance and benefits. This initiative has successfully equipped students with applicable English skills that integrate health science knowledge and support their preparedness for the global workforce. Continuous and expanded ESP programs are recommended to further strengthen students’ competitiveness and professional readiness. Kemampuan berbahasa Inggris telah menjadi keterampilan penting dalam berbagai bidang profesi, khususnya di bidang kesehatan. Di era globalisasi, tenaga kesehatan tidak hanya dituntut memiliki kompetensi teknis, tetapi juga keterampilan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris, terutama dalam konteks promosi kesehatan. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa Inggris mahasiswa kesehatan masyarakat melalui pendekatan English for Specific Purposes (ESP) guna mempersiapkan mereka menghadapi dunia kerja. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat, Institut Kesehatan Medistra Lubuk Pakam pada tanggal 7–8 Juli 2025 dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 120 mahasiswa. Rangkaian kegiatan meliputi pre-test, workshop interaktif, pelatihan praktik, dan post-test. Abstract

There are four skills for studying English: Reading, Listening, Speaking and writing. For administration students Speaking skill is really important to be mastered. The data show that there are many students get struggle for mastering speaking English. They only know how to write and answer the question in writing. Action Learning Strategy helps students to improve the speaking skill by applying the strategy in teaching learning process in the classroom. There are two phases for applying the Action Learning Strategy (ACA) in this research. The data were got from observation, interview, and Speaking skill test. The first phases from observations of the students. The result of observation showed Action Learning Strategy is recommended by students. The data from interviewing shows that there few of students brave to practice or speak in front of classroom. Most of students seldom to speak up in English and prefer wring than speaking. The first phase shows the students’ speaking skill ability score 70. At the second phase, by the observation and interview data showed that students more actively participate on discussion, practice speaking in front of the classroom and had good improvement on English Speaking skill. Applying Action Learning Strategy (ACA) in the teaching learning process on Speaking skill can improve students’ speaking ability for Hospital Administration Students at Institut Kesehatan Deli Husada Deli Tua.

Abstract

This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and a post-test control group. A total of fifty public health students (n = 25 in the experimental group and n = 25 in the control group) participated in the study. The experimental group (n = 25) received ESP-based training, while the control group (n = 25) received training in General English. The measures of data collection included an English proficiency test, a job readiness test, and a health promotion knowledge test. At a significance level of p = 0.05, statistical analyses using paired samples t-tests and independent t-tests were conducted. The results showed a significant improvement in scores of the experimental group in English proficiency (M = 61.8 to 81.2; p < 0.001), work preparedness (M = 55.9 to 79.4; p < 0.001), and health promotion knowledge (M = 59.3 to 82.7; p < 0.001). No significant improvement was detected in the control group (p > 0.05). The findings indicate that the ESP approach was superior to the traditional General English approach in ensuring the improvement in the linguistic proficiency and vocational readiness of students. The ESP method significantly improved the level of English proficiency, employment readiness, and health promotion knowledge among the students in the field of public health. Incorporating ESP into public health courses can enhance graduates' employability and professional proficiency, equipping them to address challenges in global health communication and promotion.

Abstract

Deli Malay dance is an important part of the cultural identity of the Medan community. However, the development of modern culture has led to a decline in interest among the younger generation and a decline in the activities of traditional arts studios. This community service activity aims to preserve and develop the Deli Malay dance through digital transformation and a contemporary approach. The program was implemented at the Sri Indera Ratu Studio through outreach, contemporary dance training, digital editing training, management mentoring, and performance publication through social media. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests, observation of participant activities, and monitoring of digital indicator achievements. Results showed an increase in participant skills, namely digital editing (from 7.70 to 9.05) and arts management and organization (from 6.15 to 8.25). Contemporary performances were successfully implemented with video documentation and digital publication. Younger participants expressed interest in participating in follow-up activities, and the studio's social media accounts demonstrated increased public engagement. In conclusion, digital transformation is an effective strategy for preserving traditional arts, increasing youth participation, and empowering the arts community. This activity has the potential to have a social and economic impact on the sustainability of the Sri Indera Ratu Studio and can be replicated at other studios in North Sumatra.
