Abstract

The status of nutrients N, P, and soil organic content in corn cultivation is an important thing that needs to be pursued to improve soil quality. One such effort is through mycorrhizal inoculation and the application of appropriate compost. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (FMA-1) and compost types on soil chemical properties (C/N, C/P), degree of root infection, and corn pruning weight (Zea mays) on Inceptisols. The experiment used three replications of a factorial randomized block design (RBD). The first factor of FMA inoculation: FMA 0 gpot-1, FMA-1 20 g/pot; Mycofer 20 g/pot, and mix (FMA-1 10 g/pot + FMA mycofer 10 g/pot), and the second factor is compost application: 0 g/pot; 75 gpot-1 rabbit hutch compost; 75 g/pot market waste compost and rabbit cage compost 37.5 g/pot + market waste compost 37.5 g/pot). The results showed that there was no interaction between AMF inoculation and the application of compost which affected soil chemical properties, degree of root infection, and dry weight of corn plants. However, independently AMF affects the degree of root infection, and compost affects the dry weight of corn plants. A dose of 20 g/pot FMA and mixed FMA inoculation (FMA and Mycofer) significantly increased the degree of root infection compared to the control treatment. The application of all types of compost showed a significant increase in corn plant dry weight compared to the control. Doses of 75 g/pot of market waste compost tended to increase plant dry weight higher than other treatments with an addition of 32.07 g each plant.

Abstract

Artisanal and small-scale gold mining has commonly used the mercury amalgamation method for gold ore extraction. The processing waste or tailings often contain gold and other metals. This study examined the effects of cow manure amendment and the ratio of gold mine tailings on sweet potato     (Ipomoea batatas L.) gold phytomining. The pot experiment was conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture greenhouse at Padjadjaran University in Indonesia. The sweet potato MZ119 clone (an orange-fleshed sweet potato) was planted on a polybag (40 x 40 cm) consisting of 10 kg of planting media, which was a mixture of gold mine tailing and soil. The design used was a completely randomized design factorial with three replications. The first factor was ratios of gold mine tailing consisting of three levels, namely 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100% (w/w). The second factor was doses of organic manure, namely without cow manure, 250 g pot-1, 500 g pot-1, and 750 g pot-1. The results demonstrated that the application of cow dung and the gold mine tailings ratio (w/w) had a significant (p = 0.05) effect on plants' dry weight biomass, gold accumulation, and gold phytomining by sweet potato. The highest gold mass yield of 0.066 mg gold plant-1 was achieved by a 50% (w/w) gold mine tailing ratio and 750 g pot-1 cow manure treatment.

Abstract

This study assesses the impact of adding phosphate and boron in a mixed liquid fertilizer (MLF)  on the growth and yield of red chili plants cultivated in a subsoil environment. The experiment was conducted to comprehend how these nutrients affect the performance of red chili plants, particularly when cultivated in less ideal conditions such as subsoil, a remnant of excavation for brick production. The research was carried out at the Ciparanje Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran. The research design employed a Randomized Completely Block Design with the following treatments: A = Control (degraded soil without fertilizer), B = 0% MLF + 1 NPK, C = 0.25% MLF + 1 NPK, D = 0.50% MLF + 1 NPK, E = 0.75% MLF + 1 NPK, F = 1.00% MLF + 1 NPK, G = 0.5% MLF + 3/4 NPK, H = 0.5% MLF + 1/2 NPK, I = 0.5% MLF + 1/4 NPK, J = 0.5% MLF + 0 NPK, and K = 1 NPK in normal soil. The results revealed that the addition of phosphate and boron in MLF significantly influenced the growth and yield of red chili in subsoil conditions. The recommended MLF concentration was 0.75%, alongside the standard NPK dose. These findings provide crucial insights for the development of more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices, especially in challenging soil conditions like subsoil, where nutrient availability can be a determining factor for agricultural success.

Abstract

Climate is an important factor which influences the growth and productivity of oil palm. The current oil palm cultivation system is vulnerable to climate change. For example, there was a decline in global oil palm production in 2015 due to ENSO, particularly affecting Southeast Asia. Extreme drought causes oil palm plants to experience water stress, while forest fires due to drought inhibit the photosynthesis process. A comprehensive study of the Systematic Literature Review was carried out using bibliometric analysis, systematic review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) methods, using the search engines Scopus and ScienceDirect with the keywords “palm AND oil AND production AND climate AND change”, “impact AND climate AND change AND coconut palm AND oil”, “palm AND oil AND adaptation AND climate AND change”, “palm AND oil AND mitigation AND climate AND change”. A thorough scientific literature review obtained 1331 papers from Scopus and ScienceDirect. Out of these, only 26 articles were selected for further examination. Based on the literature, there are several strategies for increasing oil palm productivity in the era of climate change. These strategies can be done through agronomic management, providing fertilizer from oil palm biomass, and maintaining irrigation for water availability. This literature study provides recommendations for strategies for increasing oil palm productivity in the face of climate change.
