Abstract

Despite the significant tourism potential and government initiatives in Indonesia, the popularity of Lombok Island remains below expectations, particularly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Look Lombok Tour & Travel, a local travel agency, faces substantial challenges in attracting tourists. This study aims to identify the most effective promotional strategies for Look Lombok Tour & Travel's tour packages by applying the Promotion Mix Framework. We collected data from previous annual reports and conducted interviews with three key staff members using a qualitative descriptive methodology, which we then analyzed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the promotional efforts. The results demonstrate that Look Lombok Tour & Travel employs a comprehensive array of promotional strategies—advertising, public relations, direct marketing, sales promotion, and personal selling—to effectively reach diverse demographics and align with current industry trends. Despite these strategic efforts, the study identifies critical areas needing improvement, including the development of distinctive tour packages, addressing budget limitations, fostering innovation, integrating advanced technologies, and establishing robust evaluation mechanisms. To overcome these challenges and enhance promotional efficacy, the study recommends investing in innovative technology-driven tactics and conducting regular strategic evaluations. These initiatives are anticipated to significantly enhance Lombok's appeal as a tourist destination, ensuring sustainable growth and resilience in its tourism industry.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to study the production process and the chemical composition of three traditional Sumbawa oils from Benete Village (BT), Batu Dulang Village (BD), and Hutan Sumbawa (HS). A survey was conducted to learn the production process and the chemical composition of the Sumbawa oils was determined by fractionation method using three solvents with different polarity (methanol, dichloromethane (DCM) and n-hexane), followed by GC-MS analysis of each extract. In general, the three Sumbawa Oils were traditionally produced by mixing various species of medical plants into the coconut oil through heating process. Based on GC-MS analysis, the constituents of the Sumbawa oils are mainly fatty acid, fatty acid ester, monoterpene and sesquiterpene. Three major identical compounds were identified in all three products with different percentages of abundance namely Octadecanoic acid/stearic acid, Hexadecanoic acid/palmitic acid, and methyl palmitate. Furthermore, there were other major compounds such as Linoleic acid, Lycopersene, and Dodecanoic acid/lauric acid. The non-natural product compounds found in Sumbawa oil extracts and the biological activities of major compounds are discussed in this article.

Abstract

Abstract

This investigation examines the significance of Electronic Word of Mouth (eWOM) in facilitating sustainable tourism by scrutinizing the digital marketing methodologies and operational practices of Lombok Hidden Trip and Goodfriend Travel in the regions of Bali and Lombok. Although eWOM has been established as an influential mechanism in shaping traveler behavior, its strategic deployment in the context of sustainable tourism marketing is yet to be thoroughly investigated. This research seeks to bridge this gap by evaluating both agencies' adherence to the standards set forth by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) through semi-structured interviews, analysis of social media content, and operational assessments. The findings reveal that Lombok Hidden Trip exhibits a robust commitment to environmental sustainability, integrating eco-tours, initiatives for reusable resources, and proactive engagement on social media platforms. Conversely, Goodfriend Travel prioritizes the preservation of cultural heritage, providing Balinese culinary workshops and traditional rituals; however, it lacks a coherent strategy for the effective utilization of eWOM. Despite their respective contributions, both agencies encounter significant challenges, such as constrained financial resources, inadequate visitor awareness, and a lack of systematic monitoring of sustainability practices. To optimize sustainability outcomes, this study advocates that Goodfriend Travel enhance its eWOM engagement strategies, while Lombok Hidden Trip should broaden its sustainability initiatives. Furthermore, both agencies are encouraged to implement visitor education programs, conduct systematic sustainability audits, and provide training for staff to improve adherence to GSTC standards. This investigation highlights the transformative potential of eWOM in promoting responsible tourism and provides actionable insights for travel agencies, policymakers, and tourism stakeholders to advance environmental, cultural, and social sustainability in the regions of Bali and Lombok.

Abstract

Abstract

Sustainable tourism management is a crucial aspect that needs attention to improve the quality of destinations. Sekotong, an area in West Lombok regency, has a lot of potential that can be developed to support sustainable tourism, while studies on identifying the potential and implementing sustainable tourism in this area are still limited. This study aims to identify tourism potential in Sekotong as a tourism product and evaluate the implementation of sustainable tourism management in each destination of Sekotong. Data collection was carried out through the observation of four representative destinations, namely Mangrove Sekotong Tengah and Elak-Elak Beach representing marine tourism, Mareje Village for rural tourism, and 3 Gilis (Naggu, Tangkong, Sudak) representing island tourism. The research was conducted by observing the potencies of these destinations and then reviewing the implementation of the concept of sustainability. To obtain more information, researchers interviewed managers or tourism operators at each destination. The observation and interview referred to 4 pillars of the GSTC sustainable tourism standards. The results showed that there is a potential for cultural tourism products in Mareje village, marine and underwater tourism activities in 3 Gilis and Elak-Elak beach, as well as marine-based educational tours in Mangrove Sekotong Selatan. Referring to the 4 pillars in sustainable tourism, however, the management and provision of facilities need to be standardized and improved. In addition, several important strategies need to be implemented in improving the quality of these destinations such as synchronization among stakeholders and training in implementing destination management by considering all sustainable tourism concepts in accordance with the 4 pillars in the GSTC criteria.

Abstract

From 2023 to 2024, a strategic initiative was carried out by the community service team of Politeknik Pariwisata Lombok to develop leadership capacity and revitalize cultural heritage tourism in Perigi Village, Limbungan, East Lombok. Twenty young adults were trained in organizational leadership and work skills through workshops to foster community-based tourism. The training included team collaboration, tourism management, product development, halal certification, and digital marketing. This initiative led to the establishment of a tourism awareness group (POKDARWIS), officially recognized by the East Lombok Tourism Office, and created an integrated management system for the tourism team in Perigi Village. Participants were encouraged to explore tourism potentials, especially in Limbungan Traditional Village, as tourist attractions by showcasing the history and customs of the Sasak Tribe. However, the sustainability of the POKDARWIS needs attention, particularly in terms of team communication, operations, participation, and market exposure. Therefore, the strategy implemented includes ongoing communication and monitoring through social media discussion groups and appointing responsible individuals for each division. With this strategy, it is expected that the management can work more actively and efficiently in developing tourism in Perigi Village.
