Abstract

There are weaknesses both from the perspective and effectiveness of Citizenship Education (CE) which are too oriented towards domestic problems in the context of facing global challenges and problems. Today it is necessary to change the orientation of the Civics curriculum which is globally oriented. In other words, it is necessary to engineer the Civics curriculum development. This paper attempts to present theoretical frameworks for engineering the development of a democratic and globally oriented Civics curriculum. There are at least six theoretical frameworks, namely the Birdcage Theory, Crystal Theory, Tree Theory, DNA Theory, Mushroom Theory, and Amoeba Theory. The six theories have different views, implications, and recommendations in curriculum engineering, including the Civics curriculum. This paper ends with the author's recommendations after considering both the strengths and weaknesses of the six theoretical frameworks.

Abstract

Di dalam masyarakat majemuk atau multikultural seperti Indonesia ini, sensitivitas antarbudaya yang dimiliki warga masyarakat menjadi elemen penting untuk terciptanya kehidupan bermasyarakat, berbangsa dan bernegara yang damai. Namun demikian, penelitian yang memfokuskan pada sensitivitas antarbudaya belum banyak dilakukan. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti masalah sensitivitas antarbudaya, khususnya di kalangan mahasiswa. Secara khusus, penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk membandingkan tingkat sensitivitas antarbudaya mahasiswa di tiga program studi yang ada di UNY, UPNV, dan UNRIYO. Penelitian yang menghasilkan luaran berupa tulisan ini merupakan penelitian komparatif, berusaha membandingkan tingkat sensitivitas antarbudaya mahasiswa tiga program studi (Keperawatan, PKn, dan Teknik Perminyakan). Responden penelitian ini sebanyak 90 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara acak dari tiga program studi tersebut (Keperawatan: 30; PKn: 30; dan Teknik Perminyakan: 30). Metode pengumpulan data adalah dengan penyebaran angket. Data dianalisis secara statistik baik secara deskriptif maupun komparatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan tingkat sensitivitas antarbudaya di antara tiga program studi tersebut. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa dari ketiga program studi tersebut memiliki tingkat sensitivitas antarbudaya yang tinggi, karena berada pada kategori pendukung cultural relativism, bukan cultural egocentrism. ABSTRACTIn a pluralistic or multicultural society like Indonesia, intercultural sensitivity possessed by citizens is an important element for the creation of a peaceful society, nation, and state. However, there has not been much research focusing on intercultural sensitivity. Therefore, researchers are interested in examining the issue of intercultural sensitivity, especially among students. Specifically, this research was intended to compare the level of intercultural sensitivity among students in the three study programs at UNY, UPNV, and UNRIYO. The research report written in this paper is a comparative study, trying to compare the level of sensitivity among students of three study programs (Nursing, Civics, and Petroleum Engineering). The research respondents were 90 students who were randomly selected from the three study programs (Nursing: 30; Civics: 30; and Petroleum Engineering: 30). The method of collecting data is by distributing questionnaires. Data were analyzed statistically both descriptively and comparatively. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the level of intercultural sensitivity among the three study programs. Thus, it can be concluded that students from the three study programs have a high level of intercultural sensitivity, because it is in the category of supporting cultural relativism, not cultural egocentrism.

Abstract

The research was an explorative research deploying interview and questionnaire as collecting data methods. Collected data was analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The research found that (1) although respondents have different conceptions of good citizens, they have shared view on main features of good citizen, namely caring others, responsibility, independence, democratic, critical, and simple life; (2) almost all of them have chosen lecturing as instructional method to develop good citizen; (3) they have found both internal and external obstacles in dealing with their efforts, such as teachers themselves and students and the lack of infrastructures of schools; and (4) many efforts were deployed, one of them was of seduction their colleagues to work professionally. They believed that it was not thought but caught by which a good citizen could be developed. They were ready to be examples.

Abstract

This research delves into the topic of national defense among college students and aims to uncover new and effective ways to integrate Civic Education to enhance students' national defense capabilities in the digital age. The study employs a mixed-method approach with a concurrent triangulation design. Through interviews with Civic educators, it became apparent that students lacked engagement with and enthusiasm for the subject matter. Quantitative data analysis revealed that while students exhibited a strong awareness of and patriotism for their country, they faced challenges in illustrating how their skills and competencies could be utilized to advance the nation. To address these issues, suggestions for innovative learning techniques included integrating a service-learning approach and incorporating online learning methods.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi penguatan nasionalisme yang dilakukan oleh guru Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan (PPKn), faktor pendukung dan faktor penghambat dalam penguatan nilai nasionalisme generasi muda di daerah perbatasan Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah para guru PPKn yang mengikuti program sarjana mendidik di daerah terdepan, terluar, dan tertinggal di wilayah Indonesia. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis induktif. Langkah-langkah analisis data yang dilakukan meliputi: reduksi data, kategorisasi, display data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi penguatan nasionalisme yang dilakukan oleh guru PPKn yakni melalui pendekatan budaya dan psikologis dengan pembiasaan dan keteladanan dalam pembelajaran. Faktor-faktor yang mendukung antara lain kemauan peserta didik yang kuat, sinergi sekolah dan pemerintah, dan kehadiran Tentara Nasional Indonesia. Sementara faktor penghambat antara lain: keterbatasan akses informasi sumber belajar mengenai nasionalisme, letak geografis, dan adat istiadat.The strategy to Strengthen Indonesian Border Nationalism. This study aims to describe the strategy of strengthening nationalism carried out by Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) teachers, supporting factors and inhibiting factors in strengthening the value of young generation's nationalism in Indonesia's border regions. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Research subjects were PPKn teachers who took part in educating undergraduate programs in the foremost, outermost, and disadvantaged regions in the Indonesian region. Data collection uses in-depth interview techniques and documentation. Data were analyzed by inductive analysis techniques. The steps of data analysis include: data reduction, categorization, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the strategy of strengthening nationalism carried out by PPKn teachers was through cultural and psychological approaches with habituation and exemplary learning. Supporting factors include a strong student will, school and government synergy, and the presence of the Indonesian National Army. While the inhibiting factors include: limited access to information about learning resources about nationalism, geographical location, and local wisdom.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menggagas model Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan (PKn) yang sensitif terhadap keberagaman budaya sebagai alternatif model mainstream yang banyak dianut saat ini, yang dicirikan oleh pendekatan top-down, one-size-fits-all. Penulis berargumentasi bahwa pengembangan model PKn sensitif budaya diperlukan dalam rangka mengakomodasi tuntutan perkembangan masyarakat di era global, dimana seiring dengan proses globalisasi muncul gerakan berupa penyadaran kembali ke budaya asli atau proses yang lebih dikenal sebagai glocalization. Permasalahan yang dibahas dibatasi pada teori-teori yang bisa digunakan sebagai landasan pengembangan model Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan yang dapat menghasilkan warga negara yang locally embedded, globally connected. Berdasarkan kajian pustaka, ada dua kelompok besar teori yang dibahas, yaitu teori yang dikemukakan Cheng (2005) tentang pemberdayaan pengetahuan lokal dalam rangka menghadapi arus globalisasi dan Teori-teori tentang cosmopolitanism. Berdasarkan dua kelompok teori tersebut, disajikan saran praktis berkaitan dengan model Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan.Kata kunci: Kepekaan lintas budaya, Pendidikan kewarganegaraan

Abstract

Buku John Dewey, Democracy, and Education, yang diterbitkan pada tahun 1916, dianggap sebagai batu loncatan pendidikan demokrasi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri dan mengidentifikasi varian-varian interpretasi di kalangan Deweyan. Artikel ini merupakan tinjauan pustaka. Setidaknya ada delapan persepsi terkait dengan tulisan Dewey tentang pendidikan demokrasi. Ada elitis, liberal, neoliberal, deliberatif, multikulturalis, partisipatif, kritis, dan agonistik. Masing-masing memiliki konsepsi, implikasi, saran, kritik, dan debat yang berbeda terkait dengan tulisan Dewey. Namun dalam artikel ini, hanya menguraikan dua di antaranya, yakni liberalis dan neoliberalis. Pengajaran Demokrasi memiliki manfaat multitafsir tersebut. Disarankan agar guru memilih dan memodifikasi berbagai saran yang ditawarkan oleh sarjana pendidikan demokrasi mengikuti keadaan atau faktor kontekstual dalam mengajarkan demokrasi.Kata kunci: Demokrasi, pendidikan, Deweyan, pendidikan demokrasi

Abstract

This study aims to build social care through an engagement-based Civic Education curriculum at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta/UNY whose students have diverse backgrounds. This study was developed based on the qualitative approach through 1) a focus group discussion to examine the engagement learning model in the Civic Education curriculum, 2) a workshop on the development of engagement learning models, 3) expert validation using the engagement learning model instrument, 4) implementation of engagement learning model, and 5) reflections on the engagement learning model implementation. The results of this study show that the Engagement Learning Model can improve social care shown from mutual respect for diversity, social cohesion, sympathy for others, and volunteerism. The researcher used the social value theory to analyze students’ social care. This engagement learning model can develop a social collaboration that promotes the unique characteristics of each student. Students are trained to be critical and socially sensitive through an engagement project consisting of social activities in the community in Civic Education learning. Increasing students' care from Civic Education may positively influence students' knowledge, attitudes, and social relations in their groups and outside their groups, respect and acceptance of diversity, social cohesion that forms cooperation, sympathy for others that form social solidarity, as well as a sense of volunteerism that makes students provide solutions to social problems.

Abstract

This article has the aim of providing a theoretical review of the role of Citizenship Education in the formation of a democratic society through the views or perspective of Prof. Dr. Udin Sarifudin Winataputra, M.A., This research tries to build and obtain results from the theoretical and empirical foundations of Citizenship Education both among the public as well as students and teachers in the world of education, which aims to be able to develop a concept of the role of Citizenship Education in forming a democratic society. In this article, it can be concluded that Citizenship Education has three main roles or functions in the formation of a democratic society, namely developing civic intelligence, cultivating civic responsibility, and encouraging citizen participation both among the community and among education. The three functions or roles of civics education are also in line with the three components of civics education, namely citizenship knowledge, civic values and attitudes, and citizenship skills.

Abstract

Paulo Freire's Thoughts on Problem-posing education were born from his criticism of bank-style education that made learners as savings where knowledge was filled without any interaction between teachers and learners. In Problem-posing education, students are directed to learn directly from the problems around them. Freire's Facing Problems Education aims to foster critical awareness possessed by students to examine problems that occur in the social, economic, political, and cultural fields. Civic education, as one of the subjects that aim to form good citizens, needs to apply the concept of facing problems in the learning process of civic education. This is because civic education has material related to citizens' lives. The application of Problem-posing education in civic education aims to enable students who are part of citizens to have critical thinking and awareness in examining problems that occur amid national and state life.
