Abstract

This study explores ecofeminism in the sustainable management of mangrove forests in Tanjung Siambang. Employing a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research focused on women who are actively involved in mangrove conservation, environmental activists, and community members with local ecological knowledge and skills. The findings reveal a significant connection between women and nature, where women play a central role in mangrove management based on traditional ecological knowledge. Their practices emphasize conservation without causing environmental harm and are rooted in a deep understanding of the local ecosystem. Furthermore, women are not only preserving mangrove forests but also transforming them into sources of sustainable livelihoods. Despite facing structural barriers such as patriarchal cultural norms, these challenges have not deterred their efforts. Instead, they serve as motivation for women to assert their agency in ecological governance. This research highlights how women in Tanjung Siambang integrate ecological responsibility with economic empowerment, demonstrating that ecofeminism is not only a critique of environmental degradation and gender inequality but also a practical framework for sustainable community-based environmental management.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study analyzes the juridical construction of naming and characteristics of Salai Simbek and Tamban Salai as Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Kepulauan Riau Province, particularly in Natuna and Lingga Regencies. These traditional smoked fish products embody not only culinary heritage but also the collective identity of maritime communities. The research aims to examine the legal framework governing their protection and to formulate an appropriate legal protection model integrating cultural and economic dimensions. This research employs a normative juridical method with descriptive-analytical specifications and a qualitative approach. The study is based on statutory analysis, literature review, and secondary legal materials related to cultural advancement and intellectual property law. The findings reveal that registration under the Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb) regime provides cultural legitimacy; however, it does not fully ensure economic protection against unauthorized commercialization. The study concludes that a multi-layered protection model is necessary, combining WBTb recognition with geographical indications and/or collective trademarks. Comprehensive legal protection is essential to ensure legal certainty, communal justice, and sustainable economic development while preserving socio-cultural values within local communities. Keywords: Salai Simbek, Tamban Salai, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Normative Juridical ,Social Cultural and Economic Abstrak Penelitian ini menganalisis konstruksi yuridis penamaan dan karakteristik Salai Simbek dan Tamban Salai sebagai Warisan Budaya Takbenda (WBTb) di Provinsi Kepulauan Riau, khususnya di Kabupaten Natuna dan Kabupaten Lingga. Abstract

This study examines the legality–legitimacy gap in the implementation of the Rempang Eco-City policy in Batam, Indonesia. The project is formally positioned as a strategic development agenda intended to accelerate investment, industrial expansion, tourism growth, and regional economic transformation. However, its implementation has generated significant social resistance among affected communities, particularly due to relocation plans, uncertainty over land tenure, disruption of fishing-based livelihoods, and threats to socio-cultural continuity. This research uses a qualitative descriptive-analytical method supported by library research and document analysis. Secondary data were obtained from statutory regulations, government documents, institutional reports, scholarly publications, public statements, and media sources related to Rempang Eco-City. Data were analyzed through a gap analysis model by comparing two main dimensions: formal legality, represented by legal basis, institutional authority, administrative procedures, and policy instruments; and social legitimacy, represented by public acceptance, participation quality, perceived fairness, and recognition of local rights. The findings show that although the Rempang Eco-City policy has a strong formal legal foundation, its implementation remains socially contested because affected communities perceive the process as top-down, insufficiently participatory, and inadequately responsive to their livelihood and cultural attachments. The study also finds that institutional fragmentation, weak deliberative governance, limited transparency, and relocation uncertainty intensify public distrust. Therefore, the Rempang case demonstrates that legal validity alone cannot guarantee policy acceptance or implementation sustainability. The study concludes that strategic development projects require inclusive governance, meaningful participation, accountable institutional coordination, and substantive relocation justice to transform formal legality into social legitimacy.

Abstract

This study discusses the important context related to class struggle in the context of Live Reef Fish Food Trade (LRFFT) in Natuna Regency and Anambas Islands. This area, known as a supplier of live reef fish, faces a dilemma between marine conservation policies and local economic sustainability. With the global backdrop of marine conservation targets, such as the '30 × 30' set by UNEP-WCMC in 2021, it is important to understand the dynamics of class struggle in achieving these goals. Although marine conservation is considered a solution to overcome overfishing and reduce endangered species, resistance from local communities indicates the complexity of implementing conservation policies. This study aims to fill the gap in knowledge related to the dimensions of class struggle in the context of marine conservation, focusing on LRFFT in Natuna and Anambas. Through a sociological theoretical framework, this study seeks to understand the dialectical relationship between agents (local communities and fishermen groups) and structures (conservation policies) and their impacts on the success or failure of policies. By detailing the geographical context, existing conservation policies, and challenges faced by local communities, this study hopes to provide further insights to help design more inclusive and sustainable marine conservation policies in the future.
