Abstract

Lechitocladium angustiovum is fish helminth parasites in the digestive tract to the Rastrelliger genus. The habitat of helminth parasites divided into microhabitat and makrohabitat. Fish helminth parasites infections showed the interaction of extrinsic factors (hosts habitat) and intrinsic factors (biological host). The study was conducted in February-June 2013 in the waters of the Banten Bay (Banten Province) and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay (West Jawa Province). Microhabitat helminth parasites of L. angustiovum that infect R. brachysoma gastrointestinal tract is the stomach and intestines. The presence of fish helminth parasites in fish is mutually beneficial. Fish helminth parasites get food from the fish but its presence prevents other parasites that infect fish. The presence of these worms in the digestive tract is affected by the presence of copepode and small crustaceans that are influenced by the host biology (growth and gonad development) and environmental waters. The number of L. angustiovum from Banten Bay and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay was not significantly different because of the fish has genetically similar populations.

Abstract

This research was conducted at two different lakes in Jambi Province (Lake Sipin and Lake Teluk) to compare abundance of aquatic insect larvae (family: Chironomidae). Lake Sipin located close by the settlement and got many influences from anthropogenic activities. However, Lake Teluk got less anthropogenic disturbance. Both lakes have difference plants cover. The area around Lake Sipin was more open compared to Lake Teluk and it caused low transparency level in Lake Sipin. The transparency level of Lake Sipin was 58.62 cm whereas transparency level of Lake Teluk was 70.29 cm. The difference of this transparency level influenced Chironomidae Larvae abundance that was encountered. Larvae abundance which was found in Lake Sipin was 49 ind/m2, while larvae abundance of Lake Teluk was 374 ind/m2. The result showed that water transparency level, water colors and vegetation affected abundance of Chironomidae larvae.

Abstract

Anthropogenic pollution (organic matter and Hg) around Cisadane River upstream can affect the abundances of macrozoobenthos. The aim of this research was to identify the abundances of macrozoobenthos and feeding groups, and also to identify the status of waters based on macrozoobenthos community. The research was conducted on January to March in four locations in the upstream of Cisadane River, covering Cikuluwung (ST 1), Cisarua (ST 2), Curug Bitung (ST 3), and Lukut (ST 4). Samples were collected with kick net and Eckman Grab. The dominance macrozoobenthos are Bungona (171 ind/m2), Simulium (101 ind/m2), Cheumatopsyche (50 ind/m2), and Polypedilum (28 ind/m2). Based on feeding groups, the dominance are filtering collector and gatherer collector. Based on the Pollution Index and Heavy Metal Pollution Index (Hg) on sediment, the upstream of Cisadane River is low polluted whereas EPT Index and Signal showed that upstream of Cisadane River is moderate polluted.

Abstract

Cilacap and Kebumen are potential coastal habitat for mole crab such as Hippa adactyla. Ecosystems condition of both locations is distinct. Each organism have to develop adaptation strategy to deal with environmental variation. H. adactyla usually burry into substrate to cope with environmental stress. They have been adapted to local habitat in order to be able for survive and reproduce. However, it has not been well known whether the adaptation strategy may vary the performance of morphology. This study focused on morphological variation of mole crab H. Adactyla. The sample was carried out on August 2014. Mole crabs were caught using traditional fishing gear called “sorok”. They were 118 individuals which where caught in Cilacap, while 102 individuals that were found in Kebumen. The result showed that H. adactyla walk vertically (backwards). These caused by carapace length and carapace width ratio. T-student analysis showed that relative growth for males were negatively allometric and isometric for female in both habitat. Mean of condition factor (K) for males in Cilacap was 0.0319 ± 0.0025 and 0.0315 ± 0.0028 in Kebumen. Those were significantly higher for females (p<0.05) in Cilacap (0.0325 ± 0.0050) and Kebumen (0.0329 ± 0.0027). Mean of relative condition factor (Kn) was higher in Cilacap for males and females. Those variations of K and Kn related to exogenous and endogenous factors.

Abstract

Mangrove litter production is important in the displacement of organic matter from mangrove vegetation to water such as in the coast of West Muna Regency. However, one factor influencing it is the frequency of rainfall. This research, therefore, aims to determine the influence of the frequency of rainfall in mangrove ecosystem by obtaining data through the fractional wet weight. The results showed that the biomass fraction with the largest amount were Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata, and Sonneratia alba with of 31.59; 31.07; and 30.96%, respectively, while the lowest was Rhizophora stylosa, Bruguiera cylindrica, and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza with of 30.07; 30.10; and 31.95%, respectively. The species with the largest leaf litter production was Bruguiera cylindrica, with of 1.72 g.m-2.day-1 which occurred in April and the lowest was Rhizophora apiculata, 0.24 g.m-2.day-1 in August. The species with the largest leaf litter production was Bruguiera cylindrica, 1.96 g.m-2.day-1 which occurred in May and the lowest was Sonneratia alba, 0.29 g.m-2.day-1 in August. In addition, the species with the largest fruit litter production was Rhizophora apiculata, 1.76 g.m-2.day-1 in April and the lowest was Sonneratia alba, 0.32 g.m-2.day-1 in September. The total litter production was 18,75 g.m-2.day-1 consisted of 6,69 g.m2.day-1 leaf litter, 6,54 g.m-2.day-1 branch litter, and 5,52 g.m-2.day-1 fruit litter. The higher the frequency of the rain, the greater the litter production. Keywords: biomass fraction, seasonal litter production, West Muna Regency

Abstract

The mantis shrimp, Harpiosquilla raphidea, is an economically valued crustacean species caught mainly in some Indonesian coastal waters, and is the main target of fisherman in Kuala Tungkal, Province Jambi. To avoid the extinction of the species due to intensive exploitation, a domestication effort was conducted in laboratory. The domestication was aimed to observe gonad development in female shrimp. However, during domestication necrosis and some clinical signs of vibriosis occurred. Microbial isolation from  hepatopancreas, intestine, gills and uropod of infected shrimps found Vibrio sp. The occurrence of vibriosis seems to affect gonad development in females. Besides, the Vibrio sp. attack caused total mortality also.    Key words: vibrio, vibriosis, mantis shrimp, gonadal development
