Abstract

Social anxiety on adolescents is a condition when adolescents feel anxious due to internal or external pressure, thus causing them prone to experience anxiety when they were in a social situation. Generalized anxiety therapy as a non-pharmacological therapy is used to reduce anxiety in adolescents, while socialization therapy is used to increase their ability to socialize, one of which is to communicate with same-age friends. This study aimed to analyze the effect of giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy on the level of social anxiety in junior high school students in Malang. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The number of 60 participants was divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. This study has shown no significant decrease in social anxiety levels from giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy in both groups. This study showed no significant difference in giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy for social anxiety in adolescents. However, generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy may be an alternative to non-pharmacological therapy in adolescents with social anxiety, but it needs more research about this topic to improve evidence-based practice.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the education sector, leading to the adoption of online learning through various applications. Online learning can affect learning interest, which can cause boredom in adolescents. Parenting patterns influence the sustainability of the online learning process, especially in children's interest and motivation in forming learning habits. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and adolescent learning interest in the online learning process amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The research methodology employed in this study is a correlational analysis survey using a cross-sectional approach, and the sample was selected using simple random sampling. The study involved 93 respondents, including parents and adolescents aged 13-18 years, from Wirokerten Village, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research data analysis used the eta correlation test and was interpreted using the Pearson correlation coefficient scale. The study findings revealed a weak relationship between the two variables, with the eta correlation test results ranging from 0.213 to 0.261. In conclusion, this study affirms the existence of a relationship between parenting patterns and adolescents' learning interests in the online learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is suggested that future researchers focus on exploring factors that influence parenting patterns, such as cultural and environmental factors, in the psychological development of adolescents. Additionally, analyzing cross-data between parenting patterns and psychological factors, as well as considering the perspectives of both parents and children, could provide valuable insights for further research.

Abstract

The role of the family in caring for individuals with schizophrenia is crucial, particularly in providing emotional support, monitoring treatment, and assisting with daily activities. This involvement inevitably leads to care burden, which can result in inadequate care during the pandemic. This study aimed to explore how families adapted to caring for a family member with schizophrenia during the pandemic. This qualitative study employed a phenomenological approach and was conducted in East Java, Indonesia. The participants included seven family members who provided care for individuals with schizophrenia within their households; none of the participants were related to each other. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews and analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Four main themes were found by the thematic analysis, including: 1) Feeling an excessive burden of caring; 2) Hoping for the recovery of schizophrenia patient; 3) A sense of responsibility to continue caring for schizophrenia patient (core theme); 4) Trying to survive in caring for schizophrenia patient during the pandemic. The findings suggest that nurses can help alleviate family caregiving burdens through targeted interventions such as Community Mental Health Nursing and Psychosocial Mental Health Support, crucial strategies for maintaining family well-being and preventing patient relapse.

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is a multi-linguistic country using the official language of Bahasa Indonesia. It is important to use formal language to collect research data without misinterpretation of study outcome and intervention effect with high accuracy. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze whether the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) instrument translated into the Indonesian version was reliable and valid for measuring depression in floods-affected communities. Methods: The forward-backward translation was used to translate the BDI-II from English to Indonesian version. We tested the reliability and validity including content and construct validity through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with varimax rotation and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We recruited 107 annual flood survivors in West Java, Indonesia as participants to test the psychometric testing. Results: The structures shown by the EFA are two factors, with Factor 1 representing negative cognitive-attitude domains and somatic symptom items consisting of Factor 2. The CFA concludes that the general factor model best fits the data on the basis Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI)= 0.8; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)= 0.09; Standard Root-Mean-Square Residual (SRMSR)); Comparative Fit Index (CFI)= 0.81; Tucker–Lewis Index (TLI)= 0.79; and p-value χ2 = < 0.01, χ2/df: 1.82). Conclusions: The results showed that the BDI-II Indonesian version has good reliability and validity and can be used to measure depression status among people who suffer floods in community setting. Future studies need to be validated within multiple socio-cultural groups.

Abstract

Sexual abuse remains a prevalent issue among disabled individuals, particularly adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Parental lack of knowledge and negative attitudes towards sexual abuse contribute to its occurrence. This study aims to investigate the impact of “Underwear Rule” training on the attitudes of parents of adolescents with intellectual disabilities towards sexual abuse prevention. Employing a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, the research involved 72 parents. The Wilcoxon test was utilized for analysis. The findings reveal a positive influence of “Underwear Rule” training on parents’ attitudes, enhancing their motivation to prevent sexual abuse in adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Collaboration among healthcare workers, educators, and parents is recommended to implement and integrate “Underwear Rule” training into daily activities, effectively preventing sexual abuse in this vulnerable population.
