Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest pepper producers in the world. Indonesia's pepper exports are mostly destined for Viet Nam for re-export purposes. Therefore, the government supports direct exports to major countries such as the United States, Germany, and China. The competition in the world pepper trade is very tight, judging from the intensity of the countries that are included in the world pepper trade. This study aims to determine the market competition structure and competitiveness of Indonesia's pepper exports for the 2003-2022 period. The method used is descriptive statistics. The analyses used in this study were the Hircshman-Herfindahl Index (HHI), Concentration Ratio (CRn), Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA), and Export Product Dynamic (EPD). The results of the analysis show that the pepper market structure in Vietnam, China, the US, and Germany is in the form of an oligopoly with high market concentration. The RSCA value of Indonesia's pepper is greater than that of Brazil. This means that Indonesia has a comparative advantage and is highly competitive. Meanwhile, China's EPD value shows the position of the Rising Star. Viet Nam and the US show the position of Lost Opportunity. Meanwhile, Germany showed the position of Retreat.

Abstract

Coffee is one of Indonesia's main plantation commodities with high export value. As the world's leading coffee producer, Indonesia actively exports coffee as part of its national economic strategy. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness and performance of Indonesian coffee exports in the United States market by comparing them with competing countries, namely Brazil, Canada, Italy, and Ethiopia. The methods used in this study are Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Constant Market Share (CMS). The data analyzed includes global export growth, coffee export value, and total commodity export value from Indonesia and competitor countries during the 2011-2022 period. The results of the study show that although Indonesian coffee has a comparative advantage over Canada and Italy, its competitiveness is still lower than that of Brazil and Ethiopia. In addition, the performance of Indonesian coffee exports to the United States is still relatively weak, with average growth that is below the average world export growth.

Abstract

Improving people's financial literacy using m-banking is crucial in today's digital era, where around 70% of Indonesians still have a low level of financial literacy. This research focuses on Bank Mandiri Surabaya Branch, where more than 60% of customers do not fully understand the use of digital banking services, especially m-banking. This community service activity aims to improve customers' understanding of m-banking and its benefits in financial management. Using training modules and hands-on demonstrations, participants were taught how to download applications, conduct transactions, and understand important features in m-banking. Results showed that the education significantly improved customers' understanding and confidence in using the m-banking application. Participants reported an increased interest in applying the new knowledge in their daily financial management. This program not only contributes to the improvement of individual financial literacy but also promotes broader financial inclusion in the community. Thus, this activity confirms the importance of structured and practical education to improve financial literacy and utilize digital banking technology effectively.

Abstract

The success of a country and the welfare of its population can be assessed through economic growth as the main indicator, for developing countries, equitable and stable economic growth is a priority for the transition to a developed country even though each country has different natural, economic, social, and cultural conditions, so that stability and sustainability of economic growth are needed to encourage sustainable development with one of its efforts through convergence economics. This study analyzes the convergence between ASEAN upper middle-income countries in 2013-2023 and variables that can accelerate the convergence of economic growth. The variables used include Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), trade openness, and corruption, which are suspected to affect economic growth. The approach used is a quantitative method with secondary data from the World Bank and Transparency International. The analysis methods used are sigma convergence, absolute beta convergence, and conditional beta convergence. The calculation of sigma convergence used the value of the coefficient of variation of GDP per capita, while the absolute beta and conditional beta convergence were analyzed using panel data regression with a selected fixed effect model. The results of the study show that there is a convergence of sigma, absolute beta and conditional beta convergence between ASEAN upper middle-income countries. It is known that the FDI variable has a positive and significant effect, while trade openness has a negative and insignificant effect, and corruption has a positive but insignificant effect on economic growth

Abstract

Food security has remained a global concern, despite efforts in the international goal to eliminate food insecurity during the last few decades. However, the subjective dimension of food security has received little attention in food security research. Research Methods: This article provides detailed procedural directions for (i) combining and cleaning bibliometric data from several databases (Scopus and Web of Science) and (ii) doing bibliometric analysis with multiple tools (bibliometrix and VOSviewer). Then, We used bibliometric analytic techniques with regard to document type, subject area, author, and country of publishing. Finding/Results: The study's findings reflect research trends, highlight major research obstacles, and suggest prospective areas for future research in this fascinating field. Conclusion: The results show an increase in studies on food security strategies, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the increasing global awareness of challenges such as climate change and population growth. China is the country with the highest number of publications on food security strategies. Research on food security strategies is multidisciplinary, involving economic, environmental, and social aspects, so multidisciplinary and global collaboration is needed.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of salt production, salt consumption, per capita income, and exchange rate on salt imports in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression methods, data were analyzed over a 14-year period. The results show that salt production and exchange rate have a negative and significant effect on salt imports, while salt consumption has a positive and significant effect. Per capita income shows a positive but statistically insignificant effect. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 71.60% indicates that the independent variables explain most of the variation in salt imports. These findings offer policy implications for the government and industry stakeholders to reduce dependency on salt imports through improved domestic production and adaptive strategies to macroeconomic changes.
