Abstract

Abstract

Islamic boarding school is a place where students gather in one room such as sleeping, eating, studying and using shared bathrooms so that it becomes a risky place for disease transmission. The activity stages started from setting priorities for existing problems using the USGF (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth, Feasibility) matrix and next stage conducted an introspective survey. Diarrhea is the first priority health problem in the Nurul Hidayah Islamic boarding school. The results of the introspective survey stated that all students did not wash their hands with soap before and after eating and defecating or urinating, all students also often consumed food from outside. Based on observation, the Nurul Hidayah Islamic boarding school did not have a handwashing area yet, a closed trash can, and a Poskestren. Empowerment of the pesantren community through an Mawas Diri survey resulted in setting priorities for health problems in the Nurul Hidayah Islamic boarding school environment, namely diarrheal disease. From the results of filling in the introductory survey instrument, behavioral and non-behavioral (enivornment and policy) factors will be obtained that were at risk of disease transmission, especially diarrhea.

Abstract

Background and purpose: There is a great deal of mythical erroneous information regarding children's nutrition that can affect styles of parental feeding. If it is left uncontrolled, it may influence the nutritional status that led to malnutrition. The purpose of this study is to determine association between styles of parental feeding and nutritional status of children ages of 2 to 5 years old.  Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, conducted in November-December 2023 in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. Samples were 244 mothers who were selected purposively and satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was collected with interview which include parents’ and children’s characteristics, the feeding practices using a validated structured questionnaire (FPSQ-28), and children nutritional status. Descriptive analysis followed by correlation analysis were performed. Results: Most parents earn more than IDR 2,000,000 and work as self-employed, whereas more than half of the respondents, both fathers and mothers, had at least a high school education, and the majority of height in both were 150-170 cm with normal body mass index. There is a weak positive association between the styles of parental feeding with the body weight for age (r=0.183; p=0.040) while no significant association with body weight for height (r=0.08; p=0.216). Conclusion: Styles of parental feeding affected children's feeding and nutritional status, particularly when it comes to chronic conditions and in order to maintain children's nutrition or balanced nutrition, it is necessary to conduct education and evaluation of parental feeding styles.

Abstract

Abstract

contributing to the global burden of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other metabolic complications. This bibliometric study aims to analyze trends, thematic focuses, and collaborations in scientific publications related to insulin resistance in adult obesity, utilizing data from the Scopus database covering the period from 2019 to 2025. Bibliometric tools such as RStudio, Biblioshiny, and VoS Viewer were employed to extract and visualize findings from 8,037 publications. The results reveal that research activity peaked in 2021, followed by a decline in subsequent years. Dominant keywords, such as "insulin resistance," "obesity," and "metabolic syndrome," highlight the clinical and metabolic focus of current research. Biomolecular markers, such as "glycated hemoglobin" and the "triglyceride-glucose index," reflect a growing interest in more precise diagnostic tools. The United States, China, and Italy emerged as major contributors, with journals like Nutrients and Frontiers in Endocrinology leading in publications. Despite significant progress, there remains a considerable gap, particularly in exploring the role of epigenetics and the microbiota in insulin resistance. Additionally, cross-disciplinary collaboration and participation from institutions in developing countries remain limited. This study emphasizes the importance of global, interdisciplinary efforts to address these gaps and drive innovation in interventions, providing a foundation for future research aimed at reducing the impact of insulin resistance in adult obesity.

Abstract

Stunting is an indicator of chronic nutritional disorders and is still a complex public health problem. One of the direct risk factors for stunting is Low Birth Weight (LBW). This study is an analytical observational study that aims to determine the correlation between the history of Low Birth Weight (LBW) and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The research was carried out in Balet Baru Village, Sukowono District, Jember Regency. The population in this study were all children aged 6 months to 5 years who are recorded in the Maternal and Child Health (KIA) register in Balet Baru Village. The total number of research subjects was 168 toddlers in a case-control design. Bivariate analysis is used to determine the relationship between LBW history and stunting incidence using the Chi-Square test. The results of the analysis showed a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), which means that there is a statistically significant correlation between the history of LBW and the incidence of stunting in children aged 6 months to 5 years. An odds ratio (OR) value of 4.640 shows that children with a history of LBW have a 4.64 times greater risk of stunting than children without a history of LBW.
